Town of Nambour Open, Sat/Sun Sept 8/9
Postponed to Sat/Sun Sept 15/16 due to weather

The Town of Nambour Open has come around again. 6 of us played it last year, and hopefully we can get a few of us up there again. I'm out to try to let someone else take the OZgolf wooden spoon from this event for a change.

Here are this year's details:
36 Hole Gross & Nett in 3 Grades
Over $7000 in Trophies & Prizes
Daily 18 Hole Gross & Nett
Daily Gross & Nett Rundowns
1 Doz Balls each N.T.P. each day (6 per day)
Seeded Draw SundayCost: Sat & Sun - $30, Daily $17.50 (cheap! cheap!)
Draw Available: 05/09/06

You can nominate to play just one of the days or both. Preference in the draw will be given to those that play all 36.

The nomination sheet comes out on Wednesday 8/8 and closes 26/8. Ideally I'd like to get nominations in by the 20th so we don't miss out. Last year the sheet had reserves.

Who wants in this time around?

At this stage, I'd prefer earlier mornings for both rounds (pending AFL Finals draw), but the draw isn't done until the week leading into it anyway. I guess we can start at different times if we need to.

Jarro
29th August 2007, 07:05 PM
Standing on the 10th tee i get a bad case of vertigo, absailing down the 11th fairway seems like a breeze after that ;)

You'll be right kpac, just chuck a saddle on one of the mountain-goats.

markTHEblake
29th August 2007, 07:26 PM
Kpac, dont listen to the fat lazy sheila's. Nambour did fine for 30 odd years without any motorised carts and it didnt bother anybody.

There are only 2 holes that are a bit of a hike uphill, and one of those only goes half way up (18th). Basically there are 5 holes up top, and 13 way down the bottom of the hill. The view when you hit from the tee up top, to the valley below is spectacular - worth the green fee alone.

Apart from that its no more undulating than many golf courses. In fact if you play the fairways the course doesnt play 'hilly' at all. However if you hit it wide - yeah well, cant blame the course.....

Imho Headland is more mountain goat country than Nambour. cant even get a flat lie in the car park.

AndyP
29th August 2007, 07:52 PM

Nope. I might move myself to the morning slot for Saturday yet.

There is plenty of going up and down hills on the course, but nothing that someone who's not weak wouldn't be able to handle.

Here's a pic from the 10th Tee, which is the start of your track down. It doesn't look as bad as the photo looks because the man in the picture is smaller than most, which distorts the scale of it.

good question, especially as I chose to play City rather than Nambour on this date... I really must get up to play Nambour before AndyP pulls the pin there...

AndyP
30th August 2007, 09:05 AM
Can you compare it to city in Woomba? Hillier or flatter?
Toowoomba has a lot of side hill holes.
Nambour tends to go up and down them instead. A lot of holes have an elevated tee, down the hill, then back up to a green.

I really must get up to play Nambour before AndyP pulls the pin there...Regardless of the pin status, I will probably still play there just as much.

Jarro
30th August 2007, 09:07 AM
Walking up the 16th at nambour is probably the same as walking up the 10th at City .... they're probably much of a muchness as far as hills go, although nambour does seem to have some more dramatic looking tee shots

Nambour is a nice little course and well worth a game.

PeteyD
30th August 2007, 09:36 AM
I reckon it would be an easier walk than City. Only tough bits are the climb after 18, which has a moving rope to help you, and the hill from the middle of 7 to the 8th tee.

Of course if the storms come and flood the course and you go back to the clubhouse cross country it is a shocker!

markTHEblake
30th August 2007, 09:46 AM
we experienced that on our first Ozgolf day at Nambour, we had to hide under the little shed on the cemetry hole. The only tough part about it was Jarro wanting to stand behind everyone.

The office and pro-shop were open today (and 9 holes), however the question of whether ladies are allowed has stumped them. The people I got answers from, including a committee member, thought that it was a fully open event for men & ladies but weren't 100% sure. The secretary manager is in tomorrow, and he'd be the man in the know. Here's the office number: 5441 2049

Day 1

Rusty 85 nett 71
A-Lo 90 nett 73
AP 87 nett 76

You wouldn't know that the course had been soaked, as it's very dry now. Greens were very hard and it was tough to get the chips to stop.

Everyone could quite easily find a few shots tomorrow.

andylo
15th September 2007, 07:27 PM
Thanks to the day 1 game guys. Throughfully enjoyed even with tiny bit of pains at impact.

Uncle is coming tomorrow for sure and looking forward to see you guys tomorrow. :)

AndyP
17th September 2007, 02:51 PM
As I said the course was pretty tough on day one, and frustrating at times when the chips or putts wouldn't stop. The greens got tougher as the day went on, and I think more than the usual amount of three putts were had.

The best nett score in A-grade (0-12) was 1 under, which I was disappointed to see, as I threw away about 5 shots with an A grade mental breakdown/tantrum (bag kick and much swearing) over the course of two holes. Sorry about that gents.

Rusty was the most solid on the day, especially off the tee, unfortunately he just slipped up around the greens a couple of times.

It was a warm day (afternoon round) and I was quite buggered by the end of it. Fortunately the storms predicted didn't eventuate.

Day 1

Rusty 85 nett 71
A-Lo 90 nett 73
AP 87 nett 76

Day two started overcast (morning round), but nothing came of it and my umbrella and jacket went back in the car as we passed through the ninth.

I was pretty motivated to play well, after a disappointing round (and attitude) the day before, and was the better player on the day.

I'm interested to know how many putts A-Lo had yesterday (besides the last), because I think he had quite a few 1 putts. Which brings me to the highlight of the day........

A-Lo got his ball to about 2m short of the pin on the par 4, 18th after 3 shots. There was nothing too difficult about the putt, and not too much break. His firm putt slid by on the left side and left him another metre back. He slid another putt past another metre, which the clubhouse crowd cheered. (The clubhouse balcony is high above the 18th green for those that haven't been to Nambour before)

Then he misses the following putt back again, obviously feeling the pressure of the audience. There's a huge cheer from the balcony now, as the numbers start to swell, and he left this one just behind the cup for a tap-in.

His reach over the cup for the little tap lipped out of course, much to the delight of the fans, who whooped and clapped with excitement. His player partners couldn't contain their laughter anymore.

The fifth putt never looked like missing, but the show wasn't over yet. Andy gives the putter a huge hurl away from the green that would make an olympic hammer thrower proud. This was too much for the mob, who went bonkers, and I'm glad the balcony held up. The group behind who had been waiting, joined in the cheering and clapping as well. Golfing entertainment at it's best.

Rusty and I overheard the story being told in the clubhouse half an hour later, and it would probably be the best story of the Championships, if it wasn't for a single capper taking a 23 on the par 3 14th the day before.

Anyway, back to the scores, where the scoring had been turned upside down from the day before.

Day 2

AP 78 nett 67
A-Lo 88 nett 71
Rusty 87 nett 73

Total
1. AP 165 nett 143
2. A-Lo 178 nett 144
2. Rusty 172 nett 144

Neither of you believed me when I said I would still overtake you after the first day, so :smt110.
Thanks for the weekend's golfing, lads. ;)

Shot by shot detail? I have a short fuse at the best of times, but add to that lack of sleep over a few days, and my head went AWOL. I just got pissed off at a couple of things I did, then proceeded to continually try for the same flop shot and continually failing, while ranting. 7 on the 1st (our 10th) and 7 on the 2nd. I parred both of those holes the next day.
