Expressions of interest please for those wanting to play. The AB event is a 6 hcap max, but there should be an Open comp in conjunction. EDIT - no comp in conjunction, 6 hcap max.

They won't let us block out a bunch of tee times, but we can register in groups of 4 using the entry form they provide. I'll give them a call tomorrow if I get a chance and suss it out.

EDIT - players from different clubs can use the same entry form. entries close Wed 11th July.

Another blokes only event

The form doesn't seem to indicate an open comp in conjunction.

I might be going to a footy match the night before, so I need to confirm that, then determine if I should do both in the same weekend....

Bugger, Shaz.

AP when did you get to 6.

There was no open comp last year, the AB field was too big.

AndyP
28th June 2007, 08:26 AM
I thought that was the case, but I'll wait for Vegas to confirm.

The Frank Foley AB field won't be so chockers, as it's on the same day as the Indooroopilly Jug (a 36 hole AB event).

BrisVegas

Peter_Rs is right. It's 6 hcap max. There is no other comp in conjunction as they get a pretty full field. Sorry guys.

I'm happy to put an entry in for anyone that wants to play this with me. Entries close on the Wednesday prior (11th July).

Post here if you're still interested & elligible...

dc68
4th July 2007, 12:47 PM
No mate I was just concerned there may be a Broncos game on but they are away to the Cowboys so anytime is fine. Late morning probably best (11ish would be super) but I am happy to go with the flow.

Gents,

I might be available for this if the tee time is beyond 11:30am - whats the story?

BrisVegas
10th July 2007, 08:42 PM
I sent the entry form in yesterday Moe. Give em a call if you're definite and ask to play with Dave and me. The tee times start from 11:15am, so you should be fine. Draw comes out Friday.

BrisVegas
12th July 2007, 10:15 AM
3 of us now that Moe is on board. Apparently it's a seeded draw, so we won't be playing together anyway. I'll probably be in the first group of the day with my 6.4 hcap!!

Moe Norman
12th July 2007, 10:17 AM
I won't be far behind on 6.2.

Dave, we'll see what we can do about switching groups on the day - but I don't like our chances.

dc68
12th July 2007, 11:18 AM
Ok I know the Oxley GM pretty well from his days at Pacific so we will see what we can work out.

Moe Norman
12th July 2007, 11:22 AM
ring him now and get us 3 in a group together!

I'm assuming its 3's and not 4's for an AB event?

BrisVegas

I wanna see Moe shoot 29 around the back 9 at Oxley again!

I wanna see Moe shoot 29 around the back 9 at Oxley again!

Correction.

I had 48 (+11) on the back 9 (played it first).

Then had 27 (-7) on the front (4th was playing as a Par 3)

:smt023

BrisVegas
12th July 2007, 11:41 AM
ahh my mistake. it was still 7 under though!

Moe Norman
12th July 2007, 11:47 AM
Yes, much like a certain 8&7 victory, this is a topic I don't mind revisting.

Hole # Par Score
1. 4 - 4 (missed a 4 footer)
2. 5 - 4 (-1)
3. 3 - 3 (-1)
4. 3 - 3 (-1)
5. 3 - 3 (-1)
6. 4 - 2 (-3)
7. 5 - 3 (-5)
8. 4 - 2 (-7)
9. 3 - 3 (knifed a wedge that was heading for a windscreen in the car park, hit the flag stick and stayed on the green about 10 feet from the hole - mwhuahhahaha)

dc68
12th July 2007, 03:39 PM

Well unable to fiddle with the draw which has been done.

Bris Vegas 1118 10th tee
dc68 1142 10th tee
Moe 1118 1st tee (when did you join Virginia?)

Moe Norman
13th July 2007, 11:11 AM
I didn't.

There is a guy from Virginia with the same name and we always get mixed up!

I rang the club and have had it confirmed that it is me and not the other Andrew who I think has since turned pro.

See ya there boys. Aiming for a 1030 arrival.

Moe Norman

BrisVegas
15th July 2007, 05:53 PM
Rough day out there and the scores reflected it.

Moe Norman 86/80
dc68 86/81
BrisVegas 87/81

Oxley was in really bad shape. I think some of those fairways may never recover from this drought. Greens were pretty good, but the fairways were mostly dust. Thanks for coming out guys. Sorry I couldn't hang around to watch you come in dave. I was already in the poo for playing twice this weekend, so needed to get home ASAP.

Moe Norman
15th July 2007, 08:28 PM
Dion,

I went down the carpark with you, with intention of going back to the clubhouse for a quick beer. Just found my scorecard in my pants, so I assume NCR for me. Not sure how that effects the POTY money?

I perhaps hit the ball as well as I can remember today, but the putting yips returned in a BIG way. I made double on the first after double hitting a greenside chip and made 10 on the Par 5 7th after being 190 out centre fairway!!

37 Putts including a chip in, as I said to vegas after the game it felt like 45 putts. If you go for the old method of how many feet of putts you holed, I holed less than 30 feet worth today....

Edit: golf link update, NCR.

goughy
16th July 2007, 05:54 AM
The only thing I can say about putting is that I putt with the yips when I watch my putts. If I line up and trust my line and swing without watching it roll (sometimes on long putts I don't even look at it until it's half way there) then my yips are gone. But it takes some serious concentration to not look straight up!

Moe Norman
16th July 2007, 06:58 AM
i can assure you I wasn't ball watching, nobody likes to watch them miss.

As they say, watch it miss or hear it drop...

On the 3 footers I didn't need to listen for long before I knew I'd missed!

BrisVegas
16th July 2007, 07:42 AM
no worries Moe. I'll update the first post with your NCR. Not that big money was on the line.

I see the CCR was 73 yesterday. I'm now out to 7! Deservedly so I might add.

AndyP

no worries Moe. I'll update the first post with your NCR. Not that big money was on the line. I don't see how not handing your card in for AGU purposes affects OZgolf money. The score should stand.

16th July 2007, 08:39 AM
Thanks fellas. You did not want to watch me finish Dion it was not pretty. Agree that poor old Oxley has seen better days. I could not "get" the greens. I think I had about 37 putts which is the first time in I don't know how long that I would have had more than 31-32.

I made a 6 on 18 from 100 out, That pretty much sums up my day. Moe a question? Talk us through the 10 please? It should make interesting reading.

BrisVegas
16th July 2007, 08:46 AM
Moe mentioned a flushed 3 iron approach that clipped a tree and sailed OOB in another thread...

BrisVegas
16th July 2007, 08:49 AM
I was just chatting to poidda and I don't reckon I'll ever play Oxley again. It's really not worth playing. There's no grass. I can't see it recovering from this drought without having buckets of money thrown at it to top-dress the entire course and re-establish the grass and soil. And of course, they need to source water from somewhere to keep it viable.

dc68
16th July 2007, 08:51 AM
Agreed. Mentioned to the old man last night that it would be a cold and frosty day in hell before I went back. Which is a shame because I like Oxley.

goughy
16th July 2007, 08:52 AM
Sad day's. I've never played oxley, but had it on my to do list. I'd always heard it was a nice course!

Maybe they need to add some pokies - maybe 100 or so??

Moe Norman
16th July 2007, 09:02 AM
there are talks of gettign their effluent supply back....

I think they've done a great job considering the circumstances they are operating in, but I wouldn't play there again in the near future.

Dave,

The 10, lets see.

Drive about 295m down the left centre. Had a good look at the green from about 190m out. Couldn't decide between hitting a low draw with a 4 iron around the bend and chasing it up, or trying to go over with a 3 iron and landing softly. Chose the latter option and struck the 3 iron perfectly, but just clipped the very top branch of the tallest tree and skipped across the fairway and OB.

Reloaded and took the former option and a low draw turned into a low hook, it hit the 100m marker and went OB on the 8th fairway (that rule really should only count for tee shots)

I then reloaded again and hit a 7 iron over the corner, then wedged on and 3 jabbed from 10 feet for a 10.

Very simple really.

It will be interesting to see how Gailes fairways play in a couple of weeks time.

Ouch..... Interesting read but..... Ouch. Take 5 there and you had a reasonable score mate.

Moe Norman
16th July 2007, 09:40 AM
Indeed Dave,

Take 5 there and hole perhaps half of the putts I missed between 2 and 4 feet and I'd shoot about 75!

Unfortunately, thats not the way golf works!

WTF? What fools decided effluent water wasn't a good idea?!?!

I agree, I always liked Oxley, but haven't played it in 10 years! And reading this it might be another 10.

Moe Norman
16th July 2007, 10:32 AM
it was taken from them, they now need to invest about $30k to get it from a different source apparently.

Their sprinkler system is also 15 years old and very ineffective, so they have plenty of cash to spend in the short term to get the place in decent condition again.
