Attn: NSW OzGolfers

Where: Macarthur Grange Country Club
When: Saturday 2nd June 2007
Tee Off: 8am
Lets get an Honour board event happening. Not too many clubs in Sydney will have an Open Day that lets us all turn up together for a game on a Saturday. Here's our chance.
On the 3rd of June Macarthur Grange is holding it's Annual Macarthur Grange Cup & Macarthur Grange Plate. Cup is open to Handicaps up to 12 and Plate for players with handicaps 12 -27. (will confirm divisions)

I inquired today and was told I could get as many spots as I like at the time frame 7:30 to 8:30am more likely towards the end of that time slot.
Come on NSW OzGolfers lets have a good day out and show the qlder's we can do it.
I will have to get the day off work to do it, should not be a problem hopefully.

I'm out, will be in Albury.
Grunt, maybe if you take some nice warm cups of cocoa and a pair of slippers you could encourage Jim to get those tired old bones out of bed earlier

I'm in, scratch event, should be fun, what usually wins it grant? even par?

Grunt
4th May 2007, 06:12 AM
Not sure Matt, will be set up like any other Medal day. Pins should be in the tougher spots on the greens, can be some real ugly ones. Front of 4th and 12th greens for example.
Scores will be just under par in the cup but the plate is another matter with scores in the low 60's not uncommon with the Burglars around the traps.

Grant - will ladies be allowed to play on the day?

Just spoke with the Club, Amanda. No Ladies event as such but there is no problem you playing on the day. There will be a ladies comp on the day like any other Saturday though.

I also penciled us in for 3 groups from 8am. Tee sheets will be out soon.

I'm still loathe to miss a Medal day at my course, but giving this plenty of consideration. I may even be a 12 marker at that stage as well (don't be counting chickens).

No problem, what do you courses are classed as local? Ashlar, Dunheved, Fox Hills, may have to have a game at one of those courses.

So is that it? No more interested parties?
Will find out when the tee sheet comes out tomorrow. It should come out next Saturday.
Be good to get 3 more players. If we don't I will book the group for the other OzGolfer's to play together and I will sort myself out in another group.

Going to try and book today,as I am working nightshift from now until Saturday. Will do as I posted above with my slot and book myself in the group either in front of or behind the others.

Spoke with Club just now, sheets not out yet, I have left a note to get the names put down for around 8 o'clock, myself in either the preceding or following group.

Just a reminder for everyone playing on Saturday, everyone still in?
I will be there around 7:30.
Jim & Matt you are eligible for the Macarthur Grange Cup. Brad & myself are in the Macarthur Grange Plate. Amanda, I think you are just in the Monthly medal Ladies comp, they don't think about ladies too much:roll:.

Another question for OzGolfers out there. Can someone not in a group with OzGolfers be included in the Ozgolf Day? Only asking as I am playing in a seperate group to the guys as we had only 5 names for the day. Maybe I should have booked it as a twosome and a threesome but was sort of thinking we would get more for the day.

AndyP

It depends upon whether you beat us or not.

A question that doesn't really matter. Are the pins likely to be in really difficult spots? If the greens are playing fast I can see some big scores in our group.

I should get there about 7.40 (a bit early for me, but I'll survive, as long as the bacon and egg roll is available).

Pin have been tough the last few monthly medals so Jim they may indeed be difficult on Saturday.

Yep - we are still in.

Grant - does the pro shop still accept credit cards?

Are we all walking?

Grunt
29th May 2007, 08:07 AM
Yes they do Amanda, not sure about Amex though, they were having trouble with them.
Carts are not booked as it is taken as normal to have a cart. As you all know I am not normal and may walk depending on the weather & who I am playing with, some groups at Mac Grange wont play with anyone walking.

jimandr
29th May 2007, 10:01 AM
I normally like to walk, but not at Mac Grange. The fairways aren't too bad, but the slopes back up to the fairway if you miss 'em on the low side are a killer.

I'm officially out of this now as the missus needs the car to go to the dentist. This means I get dropped off at golf early and get to come home when I make the call for a collection. That generally means beer + TAB :p

Went to the Golf Club this afternoon to make sure everything was booked and in order for all of you. Fields of over 100 are now regular on a Saturday at Mac Grange so it could be a good day with around 120+ players.
Cost; $50 includes cart ($30 for Matt & myself)
Prizes at this stage are
1st $100
2nd $60
3rd $40
They may increase as a member has offered to up the prizemoney/prizes to a more respectable level of that of a Major Club Cup event.

Jim, I have asked about your required Bacon & Egg roll and that too is also; at this stage, is all sorted out and should be available prior to tee off. $5 was the price last time I got one a few weeks ago.

Going to have a hit down there tomorrow morning any changes or more info will be placed tomorrow night. Will see if I can get an info sheet that was supposedly faxed to local clubs.
If I am still there to see pin positions being placed for the weekend. I will try to get out on the course and construct a pin sheet for you all.

Rug up everyone, Saturday is forecast as the Coldest day of the year.

Thanks for the game guys (sort of, we never played in the same group) Good win to Amanda, I nearly got you ;). Hope everyone had a good day. Results have been added to 1st post. Does 3 NCR's mean that they all share 3rd? Got to be a new record more NCR's than finishers.

Readers are owed an explanation of the No Card Returned fiasco. So here it is.

Matt and I both had a lot of trouble around and on the greens early. Both of us were out of contention to win the Cup by the 7th, which is a short, but very narrow Par 5. Matt was playing safe, took 2 iron off the tee, and nailed it straight down the middle, or so we thought. I hit what I thought was a good drive, down the left edge, but they always funnell back to the fairway from there.

5 minutes of searching revealed no golf balls. Mine could've got held up in the deep rough, but I didn't think it did. Who knows where Matt's ball was. Nobody walked up the fairways and hit the wrong ball. We just don't know.

Anyway, we had played a really slow Stroke round to that point, it was a long drive back, and we weren't going to win anyway. So both of us pulled the plug.

Brad lasted until the 11th, where he hit one into the deep rough, but we all saw EXACTLY where it went. So no provisional was necessary. But we didn't find it, so he was out as well.

Apart from that I enjoyed the day. As usual the company was good, and I hit the ball quite well after the lost ball incident. I used the claw putting grip on the back nine, and it went Ok. I might try it again next week.

Amanda's driving was very good, and she hit some other good shots when she needed to.

Jim, well summed up, company was good, we hit the ball well, just didnt score well, but where those balls are i have no idea??

Amanda smashed it off the tee and brad had a nice birdie on 4.

As for myself, hit it well the first few holes with a 4 putt on 4 giving me no real confidence from within a foot. After the lost ball thing on 7, i didnt give up totally, i felt i hit my irons and driver well all day, short game needed a touch of work, but the putting is where i failed a little, i felt i stroked the ball great all day, was probly just misreading a bit, i shaved the cup alot and towards the end i made some good short ones, so the day was not a waste by any means.

My CG1's felt great off the middle, as soft as the mizuno's and i felt i hit them with a better flight so im very very happy.

Cheers all

Matt

Grant - how good are Mac Grange at updating golflink? Nothing has appeared yet

Grunt
3rd June 2007, 04:32 PM
Amanda, mine was done this morning when I checked @ 5.00am. I think yours was there in the results on golflink too. You were the only other Bathurst member who returned a card.

amanda
3rd June 2007, 05:14 PM
Hmmm - I think I see the problem - even though I wrote my golflink number on there - they've put it in as a visitor number of some sort.

Will have to call them to fix that up.

jimandr

Amanda

Whatever the problem is, it may have cost you a victory in the ladies event. Winning score in the paper today was 73. You were better than that.

Definitely worth a phone call.

We forgot to describe Brad's birdie in detail. Not only was it the only one between us, it was a bit unusual, so it is worth a few words.

It was the dreaded 4th. For those who know the course, this is the hole with the 50m long green, where you can never quite tell exactly where the flag is, or the precise distance you need to hit the ball.

Brad hit an ordinary lay up drive, then an iron that looked a bit thin, and was definitely left of target, but looked like it got a good bounce off the hill back onto the green. Maybe up the back edge, I thought. We got to the green and saw a ball 3 inches from the hole, and an easy birdie was the result. Pity about the triple before it, the double after, and then the chip into the bunker and four putts for a quad on the hole after that.

Hey Amanda, did your card have A.White on it or Amanda White? They are not real bright at Mac Grange and could have not entered your score in the Ladies comp. They have you listed in the Mens Competition. Who knows they may have also made you ineligible for the ladies comp and only in the visitors comp, hard to know what is going on there at the moment.

Good result wasn't it Matt? I got 18th overall, 13 shots off the overall winner. I was 10 shots off the B grade win (nett 63) in 8th. Not sure if I qualified for the Handicap matchplay, must be close with all the visitors in the top. MMMM matchplay, the game for me.:p

Congrats you won the Visitors Prize, $50 Voucher.
Reasons given for you not winning the Womens prize was that is was the monthly medal and as you are not a member you could not win that and also that the Macarthur Grange Cup/Plate was a mens event. You were the highest placed visitor that was not also a member of Macarthur Grange.
No actual reason given for the lack of entering handicap, was told it has been sent to the club. I guess they were too lazy to enter it themselves.

Proshop, Bistro & Bar. Can be used for Cart hire ,$20 each player, next time you play, only drama is the fact there is no change so you will have to make up the rest in little things in the shop, maybe chocolates:wink:

Was surprised on that score too, Pete. Dont know the guy that did that but do know the guy that got the nett 63, he said he just had a day day where al his shots felt right and approach shots were close. He was really happy.
