I can't see Kimmorely getting the job at #7 for NSW. When he has a good game he's as good as anyone, but his crap games are nowhere near good enough. He wasn't much good last night before the whack to the head - certainly wasn't much chop after it!

Matt Orford is too hot and cold. He has hardly played a game all year. What about Monohan - he has been in good form.

Cooper Cronk? Where is he from?

Reckon after last nights game Orford is closer to getting the half back spot. Just not sure what type of 5/8 will suit his game. Anasta will get the spot but will he be no good outside Orford?

Are they picking sides on form this year? If so, what has Hunt done to deserve his spot? Surely Bowen is by far the form fullback in the land!

Jarro
5th May 2007, 08:29 AM
Can't say i disagree with you there County. Let's face it, up here in QLD we're lucky enough to be blessed with quite a lot form players in the fullback spot ..... it's kinda hard to see who they could leave out :?

I'd have to say on form though, Slater is the form QLD fullback at the moment.

Courty
12th May 2007, 08:51 AM
Pffft. Lockyer is not the be all & end all of QLD footy. Thurston is a natural 5/8 anyway, and will be more comfortable outside Scott Prince. I wonder if that means Bowen's chances have improved (seeing as they're so big into playing partnerships) now that Hunt doesn't have any Broncos halves to work with?

Jarro
12th May 2007, 12:31 PM
Lockyer will be there, he's a quick healer ;)

I hope he's one of about 2 broncos they pick 'cos quite frankly the rest of them are crap this season .... maybe pick a lot of Cows players for once

Hah. They will pick the broncos players that have proved themselves at origin. Lokyer, Hunt, Civowhatever, Tate etc. I'd like to see them blood some young guns against a young and enthusiastic NSW. If they pick the old warhorses QLD could end up getting rolled by a bunch of nobodies like the pounding NSW copped during the super league (oh that was sweet ;) )

I'm concerned about Petrol Seventycentsalitre's form. He didn't look his usual tireless self the other night. :???:

El Masri - does he deserve to be there?

I say no. He had a poor game tonight and doesn't have the defence. Big chance we'll have 'native Australians' and 'New Australians' playing the racist card if not picked.

El Masri - does he deserve to be there?

I say no. I agree, he looked a bit "rabbit in the spotlight" after he missed the 2nd kick, I don't think they will pick him.

Doubt they will play the racist card though, he had a shocker like the rest of his teammates !

Jarro
15th May 2007, 06:52 AM
I doubt he'll be picked either, he hardly fits the mould for wingers these days ... big, strong guys who can be used as an extra forward. You guys wiould be better off picking someone like Grothe instead of him.

Interesting to listen to the post-match press conference last night. Bellamy let the cat out of the bag when he said he was told he'd have 3 players chosen for Origin, and Slater wasn't one of them :( I'd have him at least on the wing for us, he's been in great form.

3oneday
15th May 2007, 07:37 AM
I think they should at least have King and Grothe on each wing, size is best ;)

Plus, an extra couple of forwards can't hurt !

Eag's

I just hope it doesn't come back to bite us on the arse.

Jarro
15th May 2007, 07:51 AM
so if Slater isn't in the mix, we can probably expect a qLD backline that looks something like this :

Hunt
Tate
Hodges
Bell
Inglis
Lockyer
Thurston

personally i'd rather see Inglis in the centers with Hodges, but our winger stocks are a little depleted up here, and Inglis does add a bit of size on the flank 8)

I haven't seen much of Manly this year. Has Bell been playing well enough to deserve his spot? Without knowing more about his form, I would put Billy The Kid on that wing and move Inglis to centre in place of Bell End.

PeteyD
15th May 2007, 01:00 PM
Bell is in the centres. Has a good rep and manly are winning. Billy is too dangerous at a level where 1 error often decides matches.

Minichello was brilliant on the weekend, returning to form from a long layoff. Tupou, current Australian bench player, solid, no mistakes. Cooper had a great game against Wests the other day.

Even Anasta, the much maligned Anasta, is actually playing better than he did last year. I would almost say he has returned to the form that made Easts want him in the first place.

Go back to googling more titties (please :))

Fishman Dan

A great game the other day.... these aren't blokes who have had solid campaigns.

Anasta has done nothing except for the last 2 or 3 games, perhaps he's timed his run well, but he's lucky to be there. And if you don't believe me, ask the guru - Warren Ryan! He was scathing in his 'appraisal' of Anasta the other day.

Well said Jarro. In other words, NSW got done last year with a pack of media friendly faces who couldn't put it together. Expect the same this year. Our only hope is to get pole-axed in game 1 and bring about radical change.

Dallas Johnson & Jamie Lyon are both cleared to play...

Johnson successfully argued a downgrading to his grade two careless high tackle charge on Bulldog Reni Maitua last Monday while Lyon was found not guilty of a dangerous throw because the prosecution worded the charge incorrectly and a key witness could not be cross examined.

What a farce. Someone can be acquitted because of a few wrong words. Thank god none of the lawyers are employed from this forum.

Jarro
17th May 2007, 06:40 AM
Courty, it's just like the Test matches where blatant foul shots go unpunished ... makes the players a little confused when they later cop a big suspension for the same offence in regular NRL matches.

FWIW i don't think the loss of Johnson would've been that big a deal for QLD, they were supposedly ready to enlist Kafusi onto the bench, a far more destructive forward in my opinion 8)

I reckon it should be 12-12 or 12-6 to the blues.

Hindmarsh didn't ground it, Price definately scored, but according to Gould that first QLD try was offside. I don't follow the game but find him to be a reasonably balanced viewpoint despite all the crap people go on with so I'll take his word for it and make it 12-6 ;)

Yeah - I was saying to my mates as we were watching it that when someone's getting ready to be retired from the team, the coach should take them aside and say "Look, your time's up - take one for the team, go out there and do your best to knock out Minichello (sp?)"

No sooner were the words out of my mouth than Carroll comes over the top of a tackle and tries to decapitate one of the Blues with a swinging forearm. Penalty, no report. So he had a few more goes, did his best to get sent off or start a riot, and nothing from the refs - bit disappointing really.

But apart from that, brilliant game - glad I stuck around for the second half (I was ready to chuck it in and go play me guitar).

Intrigued (and sitting on a dinner table with 8 women who were calling their partners for score updates, I made the call to an OzGolfer who confirmed:

* NSW were leading at 1/2 time
* QLD should win

I saw the final 25 minutes and could see why. NSW didn't make it across the QLD 20m line.
