I've been curious for a little while so I just had to ask the question.

Is everyone on this forum in I.T.?? And is there some strange link between this career and playing golf?

Or am I just a tool, and it's because I.T. nerds are the only ones on the internet? :?

having worked in IT for 5 years I can assure you that most of them do not play golf, fair skinned from lack of sun, overweight, drink copious amounts of coffee and therefore do not sleep, and have a huge pile of empty pizza boxes next to the bed.

In other words, the fella's here an an exception, indeed!

I've worked in IT now for 10 or so years (although we didn't call it 'IT' back then ;)), but there are quite a few nerds like myself who like to have a hit.

In this line of work it's not uncommon to score an employer who will give you a day here and there for the inevitable late hours work that comes with the territory - after all we achieve the most when everyone else has gone home. Aside from all promises, i am still yet to find such an employer - and decent IT technician knows that the more you give, the more that's expected of you

So, if anyone has any ideas about how to combine what i am good at (IT stuff) with what i like doing (golf), please let me know.

I have been working in I.T. industry, altogether 8 years.....

Most I.T. people don't have much outdoor activities.... most of them only interested in 2 P.... positiude or prono!!

Nothing offence, but it's the truth!!

The rest.... like me... will do something else. :D

I'm currently working for a civil construction firm and spend a lot of time in front of the computer (writing letters/ producing progress claims etc) so naturally I am almost always online while at work. However, I have just given notice as I have scored a job at the Council. As they have an 'internet use policy' I will have to discontinue posting during working hours and do all my forum-surfing out of hours...

Choppa, I think a lot of the posters on this forum have jobs that require use of a computer during the day, but not necessarily I.T.

just becuase people have a computer, doesnt mean they know how to use them. Same thing applies to those who have golf clubs.....

This concept keeps people like myself employed. As pissed off as i am to answer simple computer issues, if it weren't for the stupid people then i'd have to find a new career

This is my 8th year in IT. Well, I can tell you there are some nerds in IT, but most of the people I work with are fairly normal and rather be doing something else instead of work. Well, I guess no work = no money for golf.

Welcome, Kee. Tell us a bit about your golfing career so far :smt006

Thanks for the welcome Courty. Well, there is nothing to tell of my golfing career  . I starting playing golf around Sep 2003 and I enjoy it immensely. However, I haven't played much lately due to:

1) I injured by left knee playing volleyball. It could be a cruciate ligament which I'm not hoping for. Anyway, got a specialist appoinment next Wed.
2) Got married 5 weeks ago, we were away overseas for 3 weeks and now the house is a mess.

But I'm itching to get back on a course. My goal was to break 100 by years end. I don't have high goals in golf as its just a good fun recreation for me at the moment.

That's how we all started out too.
Hang around long enough and you'll become a fanatic like the majority of the members here (doesn't mean we are all low single figure handicaps though  )

Was it indoor or beach volleyball. I have played both over the years. I played indoor for Cairns in the V-League and NQ Games a few years ago against some Brisbane teams. Could we have possibly crossed paths?

You cave in way too easily Andy :P . Marriage just means more house work and cooking and nagging :P . True, there is less golf but, the good points out weighs the bad points by a mile. One main point, you have someone to share you life's ups and downs with and someone who will always be there for you.

Courty, I'm embarrassed to say that it was corporate sport volleyball and it was outdoors played on a makeshift volleyball court. I came down from a spike on my left leg on uneven ground and pop goes the knee  . The only real competition volleyball I played was during my high school days.

Just kidding  . I've been married for 4 years next month. Life has never been better (except that she hates golf with a passion  )

Kee, congrats on the wedding mate. I'm now a month and 2 days (not that i'm counting) into married life - and today she drops a bombshell; perhaps it's time for HER to get a handicap! Personally i think it's to stop me smoking completely.. WORLDS ARE COLLIDING! SHE'S KILLING INDEPENDENT DAN!

Good luck with the knee too - hopefully only a cartiledge tear which is pretty easy to recover from (although still 6 weeks of doing sweet FA).

So, your wife is looking to pick up a handicap. Would have thought she found one a month and two days ago ! :D

Andylo - bit cynical about marriage are we??  It doesn't cut down on too much golf time - babies do that.... :? (Unless you are Andy P in which case you will apparently play more golf than ever... )

Fishman Dan - let her get her handicap - then send her south to play with me.... I don't have many friends to play with here yet... :(

I intend to let her, that would be good, however the only direction she'll consider is north, and minimum hops of about 730 km's ;)

Thanks Courty & Fishman Dan for the encouragement. And congratulations Dan on your marriage :D .

I'm also hoping the knee has no ligament snaps. I'm just dying to get out there to have a hit.
