Yep, here we are again, except this one is a little closer to home.... the ebayer (who also buys gear off ebay.com) reckons it is one he bought off me !!!!

Here are some pics of an R7 425 I alledgedly sold to him last year.... from what I can see there are only two things wrong.... the writing in and around the MWT and the fact the serial starts with an 8 and is on crooked. To the normal punter, this is a legit club which in itself is a great concern.

I still don't know if it is one of mine, but I swapped it out anyway and will send it back to the place I bought it in the next few days.

I probably should say that I checked all my other clubs and they have the serial starting with 6, which indicates year of manufacture (for TaylorMade).

I feel I have possibly been diddled (by the buyer) but I can't prove otherwise so we will see what the supplier says.

yeah far too good for me, i would have taken it as legit. can anyone explain to me how going to that much effort to be exact could make ripping off a club profitable. That copy would have taken forever to produce, if these dills actually spent their time manufacturing a quality club rather than stuffing around copying one, they could make some legit money.... just my thought

I think you may find that often the molds/patents for some of these clubs are owned by the foundry/production company. So tm may not own the design as such. I read an article in a recent golf digest about this. One of the big club head producers in asia has a staff of over 60000. It's like a city of it's own and many actually live onsite in accomodation provided by the company. Callaway is one of it's clients.

The article mentions how the factory actually owns the molds on some of the designs. The writer went to a course not far away to look at the clubs in the pro-shop. Then 5 minutes away was another golf store selling identical clubs at a fraction of the cost (and he meant identical). You put your order in for your custom fit clubs then come back a month later and collect them.

perci
1st May 2007, 07:13 PM
Yea Goughy that may be true but the Golf company's still own the Trademarks etc,and Kpac club heads are generally cheap to manufacture the reason they cost so much is R&D & Marketing including sponsorship witch as we know is shitloads.

Usually with fakes they don't go the whole 9 yards, this one has the same ferrule, the TM REAX shaft AND the TM grip. Maybe there is an explanation from TM, one they made for a buddy accidentally or something. I found it interesting that the serial ends in GAM, like it means something.

Sounds good, but cant be right, check this out.

Poiddas auction (ebay search on MP30) has never shown the bidders name at all, and still doesnt. I made one serious bid (basically felt guilty about telling him to open the auction at $0.01)

Anyhow today i receive an email from the purported 'seller' of this item, who recognises i was out bid, and wants to sell to me direct.

- the email address he used is not my ebay address
- they have just used my ebay username and obviously spammed common domains, and got a lucky hit.

The question that i have, is where the hell did this prat get my ebay username from?

This is the 2nd time i have received such an email. i string em along for a little while. 8)

Did you bid before $250 ? It's visible until then but I get the same when I buy from a certain buyer in the usa. When I get outbid at some ridiculously low price they send me a 2nd chance offer, but it comes via my email and not ebay at all !

Ebay confirmed that just now, i first bid at $405 so the answer is no.

I was just in online chat with ebay, the lady said "easy, spoof emails, virus etc" what a load of BS. If it was that we would be getting 100;s of emails attracting us to random auctions.

I got onto someone else and they suggested I should email the details in, see what happens.

He's back with more fangled and vogue golf stuff but his shipping is competitive, only $788 on item #3.

This is a scarier one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320237569905&fromMakeTrack=true

the real R7 st comes with a REAX 60, I played golf a week ago with a guy who had a fake Superquad, it had a REAX 65 just like these http://www.dhgate.com/p_ff8080811914873201191ecd10b7344d.html

It had the TM stickers on the shaft as well

I wouldn't have picked that R7 st. Might have to start running any ebay purchases by the experts here from now on

I've been in dialogue with the seller too, he said he bought all his stuff from a guy in the USA. The shaft is wrong, and the grip is in plastic, something TM don't do.

The trouble is to 95% of golfers fakes probably won't make the slightest bit of difference. The differences these days are minimal in looks at least. Not sure what shaft they are getting, but some of the TM ones are crap anyway

I wouldn't have the guts to buy clubs anywhere else anymore but here or from a shop!

Nothing about that club would have looked wrong to me. And he's got 100% feedback rating!

And only AUD 788 delivery, where do I sign up. They have some other auctions offering 13 fangled wedges, what a bargain.
