Demo Nights

Golfmania hosts a full calendar of demo nights through out 2004. Every Tuesday night for the first four weeks of each month between 5.30pm and 7.30pm will be open for the public to test the latest technology and equipment from the leading brands in golf. On hand will be a representative from the company and Golfmania's PGA professional to assist you with selecting the correct club for you!

It was a thread I started a while ago, so SEQ members could let everyone else know when a demo day was coming up. Hasn't been used really.

Enjoyed the Ping demo at Oxley. Very low key. Went with Ken and my neighbour. Bumped into Azza there too.

Tried the S59 and i5 irons. I liked the i5's, probably because they were similar to what I'm using now. Tried a few different lengths but eventually settled on black dot and +1inch in stiff.

Also tried the 19 degree G5 hybrid. Great little club! I preferred the Grafalloy Blue hybrid shafted one, but the steel was ok too. It just wanted to go high and straight, which is a good thing I guess!

Tried the G5 drivers, but couldn't find one with a shaft I liked. Wasn't keen on the feel of the stock shaft or Aldila NV 65. Both felt too whippy and loose. They had no Grafalloy Blues or similar shafts there.

Had a crack with Azza's hibore and REG V2 shaft. The thing is a weapon! Ugly, but effective. Quite loud too.

After trying out the hibore, G5 and my neighbour MX500, my 400cc driver feels small in comparison! Oh well...

Nice catching up with you too Vegas !! I too liked the i5 irons because they're probably more forgiving than the S59s and look better than the G5 irons.

didnt see you there Pete... I got in at about 6:50pm. Nudgee, dc68, rusty, the RS's and my neighbour Cameron was there. Huge night!! I didn't realise the other brands were gonna be there. People everywhere!

I only had the chance to try the Titleist stuff and the Bridgestone JCC combo irons, hybrid and driver. Nice stuff. I liked the Bridgey J33 irons. Cameron is gonna get a set made up through Vic Park. Super price too...

I tried the 695CB, 735CM and 755CB irons from Titleist. The 695 were just too severe for me, no offset. The 735 were sweet. Hit them the best. The 755's were nice, but I didn't like the shafts. They looked very similar to the 735's at address, but i hit it very high with them. Shame they didn't have them with DG S300. After trying a few irons, i'm more comfortable with a heavier swingweight and modest offset. Think I'll stick with the Ravens. Other than the 3,4,5 being a touch unforgiving, they are as sweet as anything I've demo'd.

One revelation was the 905R. I've not been a fan of them til now. I tried it with the Aldila NV 65-S first of all and it was horrible. Very high and hooked the crap out of it. The I tried one with a V2 75G shaft. It was a rocket. Sounded and flew completely differently. Gave me the same kind of flight I get with the 905S, but seemed to "livelier". I hit 5 or 6 with it and they were all strong mid-height draws. Nice!

I also tried the 585H in 21 and 24. The 21 wasn't much different to my 19. The 24 looked like it was similar to a 3 iron in trajectory and distance. Don't know that I'd swap my 3iron for one of these.... yet. Shame they don't offer a 22-23. Would fit better with a 19deg.

Had fun, was good to see a few familiar faces.

Yeah I tried a demo one with NV shaft and Nudgee's with the Rombax(?) shaft. I struggled with both. In fact, I cold topped Nudgee's a couple of time before I finally got it airborne. I didn't see a steel shafted one to try, so can't compare with my 904. I certainly wasn't inspired to change!!!

don't know if they're available at demo days yet, but young Dean (QAS golfer who stays with us) was at Vic Park yesterday and the Titleist rep was there with the new 907 D1 & D2 drivers. Dean had a hit and was very impressed with the D2 (with V2 75-S). Not so much the D1 (with YS-6 S) he reckoned.... Went a bit too high and spun too much.

Stumbled onto a demo night at Oxley range tonight,Ping,Nike and Callaway were there.

I was'nt real interested in hitting anything but got a bit bored and wandered over to hear the spiel from the reps.:roll:

I hit the Hyper X driver and 3 wood.The driver was a surprise...not too ugly a head and the shaft was some sort of Fuji Fit-on.This driver just wants to go straight and felt pretty long,impact felt solid not tinny,I could'nt be sure but it felt as long as my Ft-3.I hit the 9 degree and would need more loft and a longer tee but to me it felt better than the FT5's that I've hit this year.

I did'nt like the Hyper X 3 wood.

Ping;
I hit the new lob wedge,not bad,nice shape and seemed to put plenty of spin on the ball,it wont kick the CG12 out of the bag tho.
Spanked an I10 7 iron,nice,typical Ping feel with a consistent ball flight,nothing earth shattering.

Nike;
I hit the SQ Square hybrid,felt dead,some kind of Diamana shaft blah blah.

Hi the logan river range at loganholme has demo nights on the last thursday of the month. Last time i was down there they had Ping,Taylor Made. Titleist, Cobra and Callaway gear there. May have been others but didnt take much notice. By the way this is my first time posting and is great to find somewhere to talkabout golf. Hope to get out to some of your golf days soon.

Mister Tees at Capalaba have their demo nights on the 1st Thursday each month, from 4 to 7pm.

I mentioned elsewhere, that this month alongside the usual Titleist/Cobra Demo gear/guy, they also had Mizuno, Callaway, TaylorMade and Nike reps and gear. I was able to confirm yesterday with Mister Tees that this is going to be an ongoing feature of their demos, with only Nike yet to confirm they will be back. I gather that it is being organised in partnership with HOG at Underwood.

Vic park is the 4th Tuesday of the month for TM. But you have to book in a half hour slot.

I wouldn't be testing drivers, but yeah a train-spotter might notice the different shaft. It is a nice shaft. I love the feel of it and it's working pretty good so far!
