So there is a cheap flights sale on today and I am wondering how big a trip I should be planning.

Based on last year I enjoyed the warm-up round on the Friday although by the time Monday rolled around I was starting to flag a bit.

Is it likely we can organise something similar for this year?

Would you be interested in playing Brookwater on the Friday. It's on the same side of town as Kooralbyn.

piece of cake -> if you're at elanora robina/lakelands/burliegh all easy to get to. i recon robina would be a decent option.

Brookwater to Cavill mall is 30 -35 mins to Carrara add 10 to Cooly its a good hour . its all freeway theres not a traffic light from brookwater to the GC airport.

2nd May 2007, 06:16 PM
I know the courses are close but how many other would be keen to play too? I know alot of you are in Bne and it may be a hike for you all. Just asking if there is any interest to play one down on the GC?

I don't mind either way. Robina is fine (I'm a member there). We can save a Brooky game until closer to Christmas and do a BBQ afterwards again.

How much to play Robina ?

kpac
2nd May 2007, 09:51 PM
Well if we got everyone involed in the Robina game that'd be even better. Not trying to steal a game here though....... Either way is ok if people rather play brooky then we'll have a gold coast game and a brooky game on the friday...
For you jarro ~ $30 - $40

You guys are bloody keen, the Champs are in Nov remember.
Anyways, I will be playing a warm up where ever the masses want to go ;)

Bruce
17th July 2007, 03:55 PM
So here's a plan I'm kicking around at the moment.

Friday - Somewhere in the greater Brisbane area. The warmup at Nudgee was pretty good last year and I'd have no problems going there again if Jarro were to host. Or if anyone else had a good suggestion

Saturday/Sunday - The Champs

Monday - Make my way to the airport via Brookwater.

So would anyone else want to join me at Brooky on the Monday? I thought I might as well 'treat' myself this time I'm up and if I'm not in form by Monday then I never will be.

Is there a better suggestion for the Friday than Nudgee?

Flights in and out of BNE are the cheapest so that is where I am going to. I guess it isn't that far to the coast or whatever but I'd rather spend less time travelling and more time drinking and talking shit socialising.

Comments? Suggestions?

i think its the same drive time roughly to Koralbyn from BNE or Gold Coast airport, , but the BNE drive is heaps easier.

kpac
17th July 2007, 04:00 PM
and you'll have to get a member on your side to get on brooky as i believe it's confirmed as fully private now (someone can confirm this i'm sure)

What! Since when?
I was basing my whole plan on it being on the public access list. This may bear some reconsideration.

Dont take my word on Brooky as gospel there's a few around here with a much better understanding than i - but what i heard was it was fully private as of the begining of 2007 - 2008 financial year  (i'm sure vegas can tell us the whole story)

PS: i've always found it cheaper to fly into brisbane and out of Gold Coast - just depends on the deals i suppose.

Bruce, we have a Brooky member or two around here. The first name that comes to mind starts with 'B' and ends with 'risvegas'. ;)

I have no problems arranging a game for you at Nudgee Bruce. But like you say, if anyone wants to play at another venue instead ... i'll be happy to tag along as well

Well, they told me it was fully private from July 1, with "limited public play" whatever that means. Give them a call and ask for yourself, I bet they tell you something different to me, as they'd want your $110 (Mon-Thur) or $130 (Fri-Sun).

There are already quite a few people heading out to play Brookwater on the 2nd December for the XMAS BBQ, so doubt folks would want to pony up to play it twice within a fortnight, so probably scratch Brookwater as a pre-champs venue.

BrisVegas
18th July 2007, 09:21 AM
so, what did they say when you called Bruce? Or are you just being prematurely dramatic?

EDIT: I just called Brookwater useing an alias (Brucie from Melbourne) and asked if interstate dilletantes might play the course as unaccompanied visitors. To which they had no problem and would be happy to relieve you of your $110/$130 as outlined earlier.

Nothing has changed at Brooky per my conversations last week. Still public play permitted.

Little out of the loop not being in the industry anymore but still keeping my finger on the pulse.

I actually had several of my Brooky/Troon 'whispers' debunked in the same conversation.

Driller & I are planing on playing Brookwater on the Monday after the champ.

BrisVegas
5th September 2007, 10:53 AM
Bruce/TS/Driller/Grunt and anyone else... I'll could probably take Friday off to show you out-of-towners around Brookwater. Public rate is $110 Mon-Thurs, $130 Fri-Sun and I can get you on for $80 as a guest (not a huge saving I realise).

Looking back through this thread there was some interest in playing Robina as well, so I guess wait and see where the majority want to play. Robina will be around $50.

Personally, I'd rather take Friday off and play a warmup at Brookwater than take monday off, but that's just me. But anyway, see what the majority want to do.

BrisVegas

I'm flying out of Coolangatta at 2.50PM on Monday 19th.
Will be looking for a game on Monday morning.

Burleigh sounds like a plan, will leave it to the capable hands of MTB.

Grunt - remember how late you stayed up on Sunday night last year?

Do they let you play in your pyjamas at Emmy Lakes?

And where is Burleigh Heads? Sounds like I have a plan for Monday as well now.

For those staying on the Friday night at Kooralbyn, free golf will be included on the Friday as well wont it? I'm thinking I might head out there Friday Arvo and squeeze in game.

Poidda,

Depends on what booking you made. I am pretty sure I went with accom only on Friday as it was a fair bit cheaper. Can always upgrade that of course.

Burleigh (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=miami+golf+course,+miami&sll=-28.068421,153.429565&sspn=0.057786,0.079823&ie=UTF8&ll=-28.067729,153.430394&spn=0.462295,0.63858&z=11&om=1)Heads is $39
(15 mins north of Coolangatta Airport)

Murwillumbah (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=murwillumbah&ie=UTF8&z=13&iwloc=addr&om=1)is $20
(30 mins south of Coolangatta airport)

Anything else on the gold coast is going to cost around $70 or more for courses as good as these two.

Frankly I would rather play Murwillumbah IMHO as good a golf course as Burleigh if not better.

Anyway, both courses are not heavily booked, so there is no need to get excited yet.

Ok since it is getting closer

Who is interest in a pre or post game? Everyone playing Nudgee was good last year.

Friday-
Dion is hosting two groups at brooky (any chance of more)
Any one interested in anywhere else Nudgee or Hills. When are people flying in.

Monday-
Any one interested in Gold Coast Burleigh GC single stab or else where

I would like to play brooky but It may be a bit much to spend on top of the rest and the Xmass party two weeks after.

Another group should be no problem and you're more than welcome to join in. I deliberately planned the xmas bbq for early december so it's just after my payday. November's gonna wipe me out!
