Any love for a trip out for the copperhead the day before Australia Day? I haven't confirmed availability and costs ($55 on the web site. Carts are compulsory I think) yet, and need permission myself, but thought I'd see if there is any interest.

PeteyD
17th January 2007, 10:33 AM
Ok anyone else coming? Is Reg320 coming after chat room discussions or not? If we are gonna have 5 I will ring and see if they will let a group of 5 play, and cancel the second spot.

PeteyD
17th January 2007, 10:51 AM
hehe. True true true. We may have to play as a 3 and a 2. C'mon Rich, You can get the morning off for some investigation of successful designs that don't drown a dozen balls (except if you get fixated with the tee shot on 15 or 17).

PeteyD
17th January 2007, 11:06 AM
yea that is a good deal. Particularly since golf on Friday is normally $77!!

Jarro
17th January 2007, 03:54 PM
Don't listen to him Pete .. go ahead and ask if we can go out as a 5-some.

reg320
17th January 2007, 10:01 PM

18th January 2007, 09:44 AM
2 X 3 then? anyone heard from Perci? I know he is away, I went to pick up a little something last night and his missus was saying all she was doing was handing out golf clubs. haha

PeteyD
18th January 2007, 09:52 AM
We shall find out but he was keen. I think it depends on what the family is doing that day.

prmeier
18th January 2007, 12:55 PM
Stayed there for a few days before Xmas. Course is great but the greens were a bit rough. They are in the process of fixing them up though.

Jarro
19th January 2007, 06:33 AM
Thanks for that Peter.

I hope they aren't too bad.... nothing's worse than playing a great course that has crappy greens :(

prmeier
19th January 2007, 01:03 PM
Hate to say it Jarro. But they were probably the crappiest greens I've played on. Mainly overun with weeds as the course was let run down. Now it's being fixed up they are getting better but it takes time. It is a great layout though.

Jarro
19th January 2007, 04:13 PM
Crappy greens sounds bad :(

PeteyD
19th January 2007, 04:17 PM
we'll worry about it when we get there. If they suck and we complain they might give us some vouchers or something.

Incidentally the resort page proudly says New Greens, so I guess we might find out.

dc68
19th January 2007, 04:24 PM
I am cool with it..... I am used to crappy greens.

prmeier
19th January 2007, 04:34 PM
I think they have introduced 3 new holes so they can rotate holes out of play as they work on them. It is definitely a course worth playing, just takes the icing off because the greens are a bit patchy.

perci
20th January 2007, 12:33 PM

Ok for 630 p/u Petey?

PeteyD
23rd January 2007, 10:05 AM
Mitchell said he'd be pretty happy to let us play as a 5, as long as we keep moving etc, which should not be an issue.

PeteyD
23rd January 2007, 10:06 AM
Dave might make it a bit earlier, probably closer to 6:15

dc68

Jarro
23rd January 2007, 05:23 PM
sorry to hear that Reg, some other time mate ;)

Pete, do the green fees include range balls ? Eag's and i will be leaving around 6am so we'll have plenty of time to get there and hit a few before we tee off 8)

PeteyD

Scores up. Was good. greens were dodgy. Course layout is still a great challenge. Hopefully the 'money' they are spending on it is over the next few months and they come up good.

Jarro
25th January 2007, 05:35 PM
Not worth $55 in my opinion.

Thanks for the hit anyway guys, was fun 8)

Good timing too .. we just missed that storm ;)

On the 18th. The water in front of Eags is the first one. There is water in front of the green as well. Should be a par 5.

And how come my fat ass makes a double appearance?

Not worth $55 in my opinion.

That tells me a lot. I don't think any course is worth $55 :smt002

Is it a worthy venue for the champs? Is the spending going to make it worthwhile. Remembering that while the course is important, the rest of the facilities and the fact we are all together could tip it in our favour.

Jarro
25th January 2007, 06:34 PM

PeteyD

I reckon the $139 for both rounds and accomodation and breakfast can't be beaten.

Eag's
25th January 2007, 06:44 PM
Have to agree with Jarro, not worth $55
The course will need to improve quite a bit before I would be happy to play the Champs there.
I know it is about 10 months before the Champs, but I still don't think it will be up to scratch buy then.
Jarro spoke to one of the green keepers and he said they had done a heap of work to get it to it's current state.

I had thousands out there today but it had no bearing on my feelings about the place (I have thousands everywhere  )

Dave & Pete will disagree, they both enjoyed the layout, but I will let them have their say.

PeteyD
25th January 2007, 06:47 PM
Hehe there you go. We have the same situation as before!! If there are enough people that will be put off if the course is not in great condition then I guess somewhere else is the go.

The Robina Colonial deal is good. Accomodation will need to be sorted.

A photo for each cheek.

Moe Norman
25th January 2007, 09:37 PM
so was the layout poor (ie: changed) or was the grass just not in good nick?

condition of a course varies month to month, it can't be guaranteed anywhere this far out.

PeteyD
25th January 2007, 09:51 PM
Only layout changes were 1 and 18. The rest is the same. I loved it still, thought little of the cahnges to 1 and 18 needs to played a few times I think. For short hitters like me it is definately a 3 shot hole.

1 is now a Par 5, tee is back near the road, and the old tee is about driving distance (passing near the back of the old 18th green), then dogleg right down the old fairway.

18th tee is near the 17th green, coming into the resort (so into the old par 3 course). The first water hazard is unsited from the tee, and definately driving distance for you guys that can hit. Short of the water leaves you a long way out, with a creek across in front of the green. The hole should probably be a par 5, with the tees a bit further back. The green itself doesn;t look like it was built correctly. The mowed surface alternated between patches of almost dirt and grass (as if it was wobbly? )

Moe Norman
25th January 2007, 11:30 PM
is 18 index 1?

if so it is a 3 shot hole for 99.9% of the golfing population.

ignoring the assigned Par - is the hole any good?

PeteyD
26th January 2007, 07:28 AM
Yes it is index 1 so being a 3 shot 4 is fine. Taking that into account I think it is a solid hole. The green needs to be sorted out (it is a bit of a mess). It doesn't 'feel' like the rest of the course, but that could be just because it is new.

PeteyD
26th January 2007, 11:29 AM
Just rang Kooralbyn and I won it!! hehe Invite to next years copperhead championship etc! I won a dozen balls and a shirt.

Must have been a fairly small field though. Jarro got NTP on the 8th and it is 1 ball!

CCR was 74, so I beat that by 3 shots! Can someone let me know what my reduction is from 26.6 so I play off the correct handicap tomorrow?

Black markers are same distance as blue except for the 14th which is 193m, not 160!

You should lose 0.4 for each shot, so that will be 24.4. Congrats.

If it isn't in Golflink yet, do you have to play off 24 though? I didn't think we were responsible for our own handicaps.

PeteyD
26th January 2007, 12:25 PM
No idea. As they are not on Golflink they will fax through for a Ad Hoc score to be entered. I will ask the pro tomorrow morning.

goughy
26th January 2007, 12:28 PM
I would suggest asking the club you're going to play at about it. And also ring your home club. Between them I would guess you will get 2 answers ;)

Grunt
26th January 2007, 02:29 PM
If I remember correctly we as men have to play off the golflink handicap on the system but women under WGA actually are responsible for keeping track of their handicaps.

Moe Norman
26th January 2007, 03:21 PM
your home club will enter it as an ad hoc, this will likely not take CCR into account.

i always play off what golf link says, thats the point of the system.

Grunt
26th January 2007, 03:25 PM

When they enter it they only put the CCR (the club that you play at supplies this)and not the ACR in Moe. I have had a few scores that have gone back to Bathurst for them to put into my golflink.

Moe Norman
26th January 2007, 04:53 PM
sometimes they don't supply it, thats why i said it was likely they wouldn't.

sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Grunt
26th January 2007, 05:02 PM
No worries, but how do they handicap you if they dont give a ACR or CCR? do they just give it a 72 and handicap to that. That would make some really interesting handicapping results to some players. For example a player shoots 42 points at a ACR 66 course that rated 64 for the day, the home club then rates it at 72. The resultant difference in handicap would be huge! 8 shots different and is really 2 over not 6 under!

PeteyD
26th January 2007, 05:54 PM
I think they are both 74 for Kooralbyn anyway

Moe Norman
26th January 2007, 11:41 PM
if they're lazy (like I was when I used to do it at Indro) they just enter the courses ACR as the CCR.

dc68
29th January 2007, 10:26 AM
Thanks to the boys for an enjoyable hit....course wasn't in fantastic shape but the potential is there. I myself would have no problems playing the champs there. Did not get a lie all day that I could honestly whinge about, the greens were a bit patchy and were 2 paced.

anyways that is my 2 cents worth.

Jarro
29th January 2007, 06:05 PM
.. but you're easily pleased mate ;)
