It's been happening to me at home. Is this a common problem for everyone?

Mau,

I haven't had any problems... is your virus software up to date?

yeah...AV is uptodate (lesson learnt the hard way)...
got Win Update too...so win Security Alert up and running...

also got an ads-ware program scanner running...so that's okay...
thos this program seems to pick up more viruses (inside the system) then the Norton one does... :?

Mau - what version of IE? Any IE Service Packs installed?

Have you got broadband or are you on dialup? If you're on broadband it's much easier to update these things atuomagically, but otherwise you can probably get the updates on your nearest pc nerdy mag.

Have you got a spyware/pop-up remover? I use Ad-Aware SE Personal, it's free and updates are regular. There are quite a few, others here feel free to add to the list, but go on recommendations because some of them are dodgy.

Go to the MS Website and download/reinstall IE. Something's broken - re-install should replace it.

Of course, any advice i give to you in attempt to fix it comes with a Disclaimer

Any one single thing you are doing to make it freak out? I gather it works most of the time, we haven't noticed your absence :)

Mau, didnt you have this same problem a few months ago?

you might be able to repair IE, go to Add Remove programs, and click on uinstall for IE. You might see the option to Remove - Repair - Or replace,. choose repair and sit back and relax.

Doubt it will work though.

Also chech Control Panel , Admin tools, Event Viewer, there will be info their about the problem nextto the Red X's
