It feels like a long time since I started one of these.

27/12/2006, Pelican Waters, Social Round.

1 birdie.
7 pars.
5 bogeys.
1 double.
4 others (+14).

Score 50-42-92 nett 80 (Par 36-36-72).

Mostly massive slices off the tee with the driver today. Makes it hard to set yourself up on the fairway when you are doing that.
Besides that I guess it was okay. I loved having a crack at a flop shot and nailing it, and the putter kept it's good form.

There were some shocker holes, but I also had a good run in the middle.

Next round: No idea. Maybe with Davemason.

Individual Stableford was the order of the day today (again ). I shot 78 gross for 37pts, which I would normally be quite content with. But I am seriously disappointed as I was even par after 14 holes (2 bogies/ 2 birdies)and then dropped 6 shots in the last 4 holes.

Bloody hell. Just found out that the winner of yesterday's comp had 48 points!
69 gross off a 9 handicap.
The 2nd place getter eagled 3 of the 4 par 5s for 43 points (plays off around 2-3).
I also won the NTP on the par 4 9th (which I listed as my Most Feared hole (http://ozgolf.net/forums/showpost.php?p=116711&postcount=47) on my course) and won a ball in the rundown.

City vs Country at Royal Casino tomorrow, then a round at Ballina Sunday with the father in law and his 90 year old mate. Just hope i can out-drive the pesky old bugger.

I'm going have a beer for Duncan.

Had a social whack yesterday with a mate and a fella from work.

I had 76
10 pars
6 bogies
2 birdies
28 putts

Shoulda been better. missed a few 6-8 footers for birds.

Wynnum today, stroke comp. If only my putts had dropped ... had about 10 either skim the edge or stop within 1". Bloody putting.

97 nett 70 with 36 putts. 7/13 fairways. That is exactly to handicap in the last 2 stroke events I have plyed. Must make me concentrate more than Stableford.

had thousands at Pacific - wish I'd played Wynnum.

Did have my first hole in one, but alas it was on the 7th where its a temporary 65m Par 3, so I don't think it really counts. Signing for a 1 a 5 is nice though :D

Played 9 this morning at Brooky. Was meant to be a full 18 but I jolted my back early on in the round and got progressively stiffer as the round went on. Was playing with a young guy, massive dummy-spitter who was really annoying me, so I didn't feel bad about calling it a day. Had 5 pars, a bogey and a couple of doubles from plugged balls in bunkers. The bunker faces have way too much sand in them at the moment. Even softly hit shots are plugging.

Fingers' crossed I wake up ok tomorrow morning as I got a 6.50am tee time...

Had a hit at my old course, Buninyong (just outside Ballarat). Played with a lovely bloke who it turns out went through teachers' college with my folks.

The course was heartrendingly dry. The only places they are watering are the tees and greens and they are in excellent condition. Apparently a lot of the courses around Ballarat are in dire straits, one of the courses has lost all of its greens to the drought.

Had 39 points - no washes (82 off the stick and worst on any hole was a 5). 8 GIRs, 35 putts. The only 3 putt came when I was putting for eagle (for the first ever time). Aaaarrrgghhh! Missed about 5 very gettable putts too, but I'm really happy with the round. Been a while since I've been under handicap, but reckon the course will be rated at about 69 (par 72).

Looking at having a hit with Flowergirl and Johnnie Boy some time next week. The organising is still being sorted out.

In contrast to what BrisWesty was saying above, we've had quite a lot of rain here in the last few days. The course is very soggy and they haven't been able to cut the greens or rough. Everybody I played with lost balls after plugging in the fairway. Anything in the rough was virtually unplayable (10-15cm long buffalo grass ). Enough of the excuses. I shot a disgraceful 90 (nett 83). I haven't been bothering with any stats lately, but I don't have to add them up to know my GIRs and putting were atrocious.

30/12/06 --- Riverlakes ---- Canadian Foursomes

Played this morning with Pete and Keza. Keza played a social round and except for a shocker hole on 10 she played really well.

Pete and I came in with a 78/63..... already a 61 in when we left.

We played pretty well together.... not even one single argument. Must of bene too early in the morning. :) We had 2 bogies, 3 doubles, and the rest pars.

Something about Golflink having me playing off 16 (which was what I was off last time I played at Buninyong), despite me writing down 13 hcp on my card, and noting it on the tee off sheet at the course. So be it. I might pop back down on Wednesday and see if I can get it fixed.

32 Points at Reddy today. One of those going backwards days where I was not real happy with my game and could not string together many good shots :( . Highlight was parring the 13th and a hybrid over the trees onto the 10th green. 33 Putts so a bit better than Wynnum, and only 1 three putt. 5/14 Fairways. Was fun to get out with the RS's again though.

Something similar happened to me early last year at the Northlakes Oz golf day.
They lost my card but for some strange reason they put in a score of 120
I actualy had 91 so was not impressed to see a score like that entered

Played yesterday at The Bay with a mate from work. Had 42 points, 79 off the bat so was pleased with that. Did leave a few shots out there as well, as I struggled with the pace of some of the greens.

Down to 12.2....

Had it happen to me when I entered the comp @ Pacific Harbour when on a golf trip with some mates. I didn't know that the guys never handed the cards in so they could track scores for the weekend. Pacific Harbour entered a golflink score of 151.

Actually got to play on the last day of the year, my wife came home on Saturday after exercising and said why don't you book in for golf tomorrow. Well after the smelling salts had been administered and I regained coconsciousness, I dually agreed and booked in. Whilst I was very keen to play, I was not looking forward to once again battling the cored greens (they are nearly back to normal); it is still very much a raffle when putting and considering the cored greens have severely ruined my last 2 rounds.

Mad rush to the course after my wife arrived home late from a run, actually got to the first and my 3 playing partners were half way down the fairway. Well NO practice swings or warm up for me, smashed my first drive down the left side, into the rough; pushed my second left of the green. Chipped to 2 foot; dropped the putt – luck par.

Second hole; slight pull with the 3 wood jumped through a trap and came to rest just out. Barely had a stance, knocked a 9 iron to 8 feet and dropped the putt for birdie, Parred the next – at this stage I was thinking what have I been doing, turning up 30 minutes before my Tee time and warming up all this time.

Couple of brain fades and some frustrating putting on those f@#ken (f@%23ken) cored greens well I still finished with 37 points including 1 wipe. 1 highlight which followed a low light, I had just 3 jabbed the 17th green (did I mention that I hate cored greens) for a bogie and 1 point. Got to the 18th (I have been driving that ball the past month, as well as I have ever been driven the ball – even better than when I played of single digits).

My playing partners knew that I was a little disappointed with the short blade on the previous green. I stepped up with good technique and a whole lot more AGRO that I am used too and fair dinkum hammered this drive around the corner (about 280mtrs at a close guess). Very satisfying let me tell you, with one of my playing partners mentioning that he had actually never seen a drive that far down before, anyway a good drive when AGRO is one thing, but trying to finesse a knock down from 70mtr is something you can’t do when angry, so a bogie 5 resulted.

I know that if your aunty had balls she would be your uncle, and that if IF’s and BUT’S were cherries and nuts oh what a Christmas we’d have. But my hcap is now sitting at 9.8 and if the last 3 rounds I have played at Southern were on the putting surfaces the members are used too it would probably be 8.0 even, as I have given nearly all of the dropped shots over those 3 rounds back to the course on the greens.

I HATE CORED GREENS

FWIW

All the best to the Ozgolf community

City vs Country @ Casino. 36 hole event

9 holes Best Ball
9 holes Foursome
9 holes Ambrose (played matchplay as the odd pair)
9 holes Matchplay

1st 9 won 3&1. Played against the Casino pro and another youngster. The Pro had 3-under for 9 holes, but my 21 pts for the 8 holes gave them a touch-up.

2nd 9 won 1 up on the last after the opposition tee shot duck-hooked into the mulga. Pressure win - we came back from 1 down with 2 to play.

3rd 9 vs the Father in law. Another ding-dong affair, went 1 up on the 8th with a monster birdie (he missed a closer birdie), then won the 9th for a 2up win.

4th 9 won 1up after being 1 up after 1, 1 down after 3, square after 5, 1 down after 6, then wins on 7 and 8 put me 1 up. A tough square to finish the day 1 up.

In a 36 hole event you are lucky to play 30 of them competitively. I played 35 of them. Needless to say i was knackered.

For what it's worth - City was leading by 2 with 3 matches to come in.... which were all won by Country. Country wins 2006 - 12.5 to 11.5. Shattered.

Ballina NYE.

Don't really like the course, and haven't played well there for years. I had conversations with Drunky about the changes they were making, he hated them and now i know why.

I had an honest 36 points. Found heaps of fairways but missed a stack of putts - barely made anything beyond 6 feet. 18 at the turn, went 1 up went i birdied the 10th (index 18 par 5), and gave that shot back on the 15th. Apart from that a sheet full of 2 pointers.

The course has gone downhill, not sure whether it's to cope with the holiday crowd before being groomed for the rest of the year, but the new work on the 2nd (290m Par 4) is terrible, and should ensure that the older members seek their golf elsewhere.
