View Full Version : Sydney Rain

Well we got some good falls of rain last night at work. Just wondering if it was all on the coast?
Last nights rain was actually the heaviest falls I have had to work in for maybe longer than 10 years. It was constant from around 10pm to 5am. Too bad it all runs off into Botany Bay.

Hopefully it got to a lot of the golf courses around Sydney that needed it. I know Macarthur Grange is in deep need of some water, they have ceased watering fairways due to lack of water.

Weather Forecast for the weekend may see some more rain too.

Has been pretty good today, a few heavy bursts but not too heavy to just wash over the really dry areas and wash the topsoil away. It seems to be really soaking in :p

I blame the rain on ALO. Hasn't rain in all year until ALO decide to come to Sydney and bring the rain with him.

ALO.
Seeing your in Sydney and, getting the blame for the rain head south for another 600 k's to Wodonga and, bring the rain with you, we won't complain.

Pissed down last night, absolutely chucked it down to the point where it woke me up. The coast got drenched (i.e. close to the SCG), but the west barely got a drop.

Prepare to be patient for cricket today. It's meant to clear up but not completely go away. The winner of the toss will bowl.

28 on the coast with the breeze, 40 at Penrith. Means it will be at least mid-30's here in Parra. I've parked the car downstairs - i won't resurface until after work when i depart in an air-conditioned vehicle!

Monday night I flew in - big arse storm.
Flew out yesterday arvo - flights delayed due to weather.

You want to solve the drought - just keep putting me on a plane.

Did you get on the plane or were just sitting in the terminal. It was chaos yesterday afternoon wit haround 30 flights directly affected by the many Operational shutdowns of the airport around 3-5pm due to the thunderstorm activity in the area.

Bruce
1st March 2007, 11:28 AM
It was an absolute shit fight there yesterday.

I was booked on the 20:30 but arrived at the airport at about 17:15. My optimism of getting an earlier flight took a dive when I saw the boards. So I used the electric check in and tried for an earlier flight but "computer says no." The girl at the bag drop was not so pessimistic though. "Do you want an earlier flight?"
"Well yes, but...."
"I can get you on the 18:30 if you don't mind having an exit row?"
"Mind??? I will kiss you." She was pretty hot.

So the 18:30 flight boarded about 18:50 and the wheels left the runway about 19:30. I count myself lucky.

Heavy rain Falling again here in Sydney.
Tonights NRL game Souths v Penrith has already dropped the Jersey Flegg match from the program due to the horrible conditions at Homebush. A crowd any bigger than 5000 will be great new reports.
Hopefully is will ease off so I can play tomorrow. Mac Grange is not known for good water runoff, it runs straight down the 7th, 8th & 9th Fairways turning them into rivers en-route to the large dams at the end of the course.

I wonder if courses will recover for our game on Monday.

It's just been bucketing down/sideways! Imagine if everyone in Sydney had even a 2000L water tank - we'd be saved :)

9th June 2007, 02:21 PM

The rain has finally stopped at my house.

It was good while it lasted, but I'm glad it has stopped.

Amazingly enough, this is exactly what the Weather Bureau forecasted. Rain periods morning, easing to showers. If they continue their winning streak, their forecast of occasional and scattered showers Sunday and Monday should mean courses will be playable by Monday, if not tomorrow.

Grunt
9th June 2007, 03:50 PM
Heavy Rain due back again tonight Jim, must say it is not looking good for your games on Monday.

9th June 2007, 07:39 PM
Had around 325ml on the Central Coast in the last couple of days , just got power back at home after 30 hours without power.

Have not seen anything like it for about 20 years , would have seen around 20 cars abandoned well under water at Tuggerah yesterday arvo, drove my bus through 2 foot of water on several occasions with a load of school kids and after starting work at 6am I couldn't get home until 8pm last night due to flooding and the congestionon on the F3 .

St Peter's collage at Wyong had over 500 students still at school until 9 pm last night as the school was isolated due to flooding.

More rain forecast tonight and evecuations at Wyong .

Grunt
9th June 2007, 07:53 PM
Wow Hooker, knew the rain up there was big but not that big. Is the area near Kooindah flood prone? Looks like it is low lying when I ave been there. Could be ugly for the course if so.

Hooker
9th June 2007, 08:16 PM
Yeah Grunt Kooindah was flooded. Drove through Wadalba and North Wyong on the old pacific highway yesterday arvo , [which is just east of Kooindah ] and only heavy vehichles and 4 wheel drives were getting through. Drove past Wyong golf course [my home course] and it was flooded, the lower parts of it was under a foot of water.

Grunt
9th June 2007, 08:17 PM
Is the top end of Wyong GC high up or does it just feel like it is on the top of the hill as you drive past.

Hooker
9th June 2007, 08:35 PM
Yeah , you drive on the old highway that runs parallel to the 18th and the green is near the club house on the highest part of the course .

The 18th is a par 5 all uphill, the tee was under water yesterday arvo and the green up near the clubhouse was ok.

goughy
9th June 2007, 09:20 PM
So you could play it as a par 3 then?? ;)

Even more rain for us Sydneysiders this week. It's been raining solid at my place for the last three hours.

Overnight and then tomorrow, it is forecast that we are going to have The Perfect Storm. 80-120kph winds, heavy rain, possible flash flooding. Might be the best day for Marcel to invite guests to play NSW, just to see if they turn up.

Could be the third weekend in a row with courses closed for most of us.

I might head out to the catchment area. It never rains out there, although the dams did rise by 5% last week.

Fishman Dan
19th June 2007, 10:03 PM
And still meant to keep rising. Official figures meant to come in by Thursday, although with further rain that might not yet be accurate.

With the rain and soaked ground, any new rain we get will pretty much go straight into the catchment too. Great news for long-term storage.

Grunt
19th June 2007, 10:03 PM
Rains have started here again and it is quite heavy, winds are expected to hit around midnight.
Will be interesting to see what the rainfalls add up to in catchment terms.45% is the expected dam levels for the week before the falls tonight we may even get close to 50% now.
Wonder if we will ever get off water restrictions or will it be now expected to keep saving water forever?

mikezone13
19th June 2007, 10:23 PM
Wonder if we will ever get off water restrictions or will it be now expected to keep saving water forever?

That's the way ti should be grant, we're in a cycle now where we have the weather extremes, so that means more extreme droughts and more extreme wet weather as well.

It's best to conserve water for future use and by getting into good habits (which is all the water restrictions are really making us do) it will become common place in the future.

I still think though there needs to be a federal government initiative (rather than just subsidised raintanks) for collecting water to use for things such as gardening and washing cars etc where the cleanliness and purity is not as stringent as for drinking water.

Fishman Dan

Because the fact the rain has been up the entire east coast this week from Woolongong to Hervey Bay.
