Hi guys, is a 9 wood supposed to replace a 3 iron or a 4 iron distance wise?

I remember years ago I had a 7 wood that I hit about 230.

I recently went from a 18 degree 5 wood to one I can open the face / loft down to 16.

My 4 iron flies about 200, and would ideally like a 210-215 club I can launch high.

Thinking 9 wood with a 80/90 gram X flex shaft.

Thoughts?

Carry or total distance? I would've thought 9w = 5i, but the 9w carry further.

I've got a 5w, 3h and 3i that compete for 1 spot in my bag. 5w flies furthest and highest, 3i flows lowest but roles out the most. Lofts are 18/19/20 for the three of them.

YMMV, but if your 4i flies 200, an equivalent loft in a hybrid (4h) or fairway (7w) is probably going to carry the extra 10-15m you want. Best bet would be to get on a launch monitor with them though.

20-21* utility with NS 950X
the royal collection cvxer is perfect for that , equally at home on a tee as on the fariway grass.
Ns 950 is high launch and VERY stable, had an NS 125 in one, was not good , too lw , felt crap , the 950 was miles better

ive just built a set of 19/21/23* with 950stiff shafts and they are irreplaceable .
ur a bit more oomphy than i but the adjustment to X flex wud prob accomdate that extra distance.

def worth a look

5 wood is typically the alternate to a 2 iron, thus a 9 wood is probably the equivalent of a 4 iron.

But i see most ladies using hybrids rather than 9 wood these days

4 iron or 9 wood for me as well.
