Net 86, aka 22 points.

I knew my day was in trouble after the first tee shot when my almost perfect drive rolled through the fairway into an unplayable v at the base of a tree. Two fried eggs, 3 work calls, 4 ricocheted backwards tree irons, 41 putts and 0 fks later, it was over. Bring on 72 holes of stroke.

29 points for me today in my first round for six weeks. I'm posting purely to show that I'm still alive and playing golf. Our greens get renovated next week so I can't see a good score coming for a while.

After two holes I would have gladly accepted 29, because my total was 1 point and no shots close to the middle of the club. Then I found the cure and played well, until I missed a 3 foot birdie putt on 13, and then chopped my way home for 5 points over the last 5 holes.

It was nice to be back playing golf though.

For the first time in a long long time I played to cap, with a cheeky 38pts off a daily of 9.

I think the secret was keeping driver in play, and going back to a sneaky good set of old school irons - Ping i5's.

Was worried at the start as a couple of lightly shaved hosels on the chipping green, but chipped pretty good overall.

Played with a 70yr ex Australian Hockey Player. Old mofo had me by 3-5m on every drive, though I paid homage with several nice "whooshka" calls for him.

[emoji1303]Last month I got some quality trolling from one of the elder members I played with. He was adamant a pterodactyl would have sounded like a duck, so after an improbable birdie in the hard 17th, he flapped his wings and let rip with an impeccable "quack quack".

Its quite possible 1 of 3 members who kakkaa may have been turned to quackquack at that moment. I'm playing with him tomorrow, I hope he makes a birdie.

My regular playing partner flaps his wings with bent elbows and says "tweet tweet" to mock the kakaa. It shits me. He doesn't make many birdies fortunately.

It’s ridiculous. A golf course should resemble a cross between a nursing home and a library.

These people should be banned for not treating it with the seriousness it deserves.

Before we know it we’ll have idiots playing country music out of blue tooth speakers attached to their bags during a round.

Played monthly medal at the Mary today, and surprisingly had my 3rd round in a row at or under handicap.

No real excitement in the round, except maybe a cheeky Kakkaaa on the12th for the first time in ages (its not particularly hard).

Today was a Trainwreck, capital T intended, however I am getting over a cold/flu thing so I pretty much expected not to play that well. I didn't expect to take 8 or 9 shots or whatever the hell it was out of a bunker on 3 though. Then made par on the next hole which is index 1. Golf.
Ended up with 97/84 .

Going to Gailes tomorrow, unless I feel worse tomorrow morning. Probably be more of the same but maybe I'll feel better by then.

Not able to play Saturday I decided to try a Sunday game and was lucky to score a spot in a group with one of our club pro's who plays of +5 for club competition play (+6.1 actual) so figured I would just sit back and enjoy.

37 points in total
21 front - Bogey, Par, Par, Par, Triple, Bogey, Bogey, Par, Bogey
16 Back - 3 putt double, Bogey (2 shots), Par (first par in comp play on this hole), triple (1 in the creek), bogey, bogey, bogey, double and a double to finish
Green played nice after the coring a few weeks back and having been prepared for club champs (Saturday). Had a good speed and true roll which played really well with me holing a number of 3 - 7 footers for the day and a couple far larger

Waiting to see the impact on the handical as this was only my 16th round so should move to best 5 and this was pretty much the best since I started getting back in to it

Work social club 2nd round of the club championships at Keperra, I won A grade with a 85 (78 first round) in tricky conditions with on and off rain and a course I haven't played in 15+ years. ( I don't think I ever played the Old course front 9 at all)
The round a mix of everything with a 6 or 2 and a 7 in there, but also 3 birdies on par 5s, and took out the last 2 NTPs, nearly got the long drive on 18 as I was 40m pass the winner (in my group) but ran out of fairway :-)

Irons still need a lot of work.

When I got the trophy I noticed they have been doing the club championships since 1971, the current President was on there 19 times, all A grade, and his first win was in 1980 when I was 5, and his last was 2021, just amazing.

Really enjoyable course. Plenty of interesting holes. The fairways are pretty wide and the greens are huge. No sand bunkers, just fluffy grass bunkers with timber edges.

Somewhat better today than last week with 33 points. Finally had a good front 9 with 18 points, only real hiccup was a wipe on the easiest hole after blading a wedge 50 metres over the green. Couple of bogeys either side of a birdie on 5, the rest pars.

Back 9 started ok with 8 points through the 13th, but a wipe on 14 after being 90 out in the middle of the fairway (really need to work on my bunker play) and silly 1 pointers on 15 and 17 killed any chance of shooting handicap. Finished with a regulation par after driving it to about 50 out, so that was nice.

I'm in the monthly medal playoff on Saturday, whatever that is, courtesy of a win in April. Hopefully I can play well for the whole round this time.

A couple of penalty shots early and having no idea where the driver was going late in the round was the downfall for this round. However, I seem to be better at controlling the damage overall and still returning a decent score; the last couple of rounds could have easily been a fair bit worse. The putter going really well helps that a lot.

Played the Woodlands Open on Sunday. Putter worked well for most of the day, short game was good, driver was horrible. It is a 36 hole event in one day.
R1 - 82/74

The course was in great condition, didnt see too many bunkers on the day. I did manage 3/5 in bunker saves greenside.
2 birdies for the day and no triples, didnt lose a ball. 9 1/2 hrs on course with a 10 min break is hard work.

Just missed posting in the "Conquered the Game" thread. Dang! Only a couple of birdie lipouts in the closing holes or short of the heart putts on cored and sanded greens away from having my first even par round. To have a round that low, I would have expected more birdies, but I'll take an equal record one over any way that I can get it.

Shout out to Arccos of robbing me of recorded PBs in the app by making me split nines, something that Garmin didn't do.

Best round with the driver for ages; a little less distance but happy to sacrifice that for much more consistency. Irons were solid, and because the approaches were shorter from the good driving on dry fairways, it meant the "misses" with the irons/wedges were still good enough to catch the green.

Played a Stabeford yesterday - 34 points
Started on back nine where I managed to get 14 points after a decent start - Bogey/Bogey(3 pts)/Double (missed 6 footer)/Wiped (2nd double bunger hole)/Double/Bogey/Bogey/Double/Bogey
Things picked up on the front with Bogey/Bogey/Double (duffed chip big time)/Bogey/Par (double shot hole - my par ever on this hole - 515m par 5 dog leg left)/Bogey/Par/Bogey/Bogey

From 16th on my first nine, to the last hole I missed only 2 of 9 fairways with the driver and managed to hit the majority well. Shame was the irons that I just did not hit well but also did not spray around the place.

Putting still an issue for me (hit 3 poor putts on green) as is a serious lack of comfort within 15 metres of the green where I struuggle between texas wedge and pitching.

Saw another slight reduction as that now gives me my 16th round for handicap which has falled from 29.8 to 19.6 across those games

But overall, comfortable and bloody happy to finally par than mongrel of a hole (5th), although now I lose my double on it.

Found some semblance of form over the weekend. 87/74 in the medal of medals, didn't start well with two doubles but I played better for most of the round after that. Putting was pretty good which helped save a few pars.

Social club at Gailes yesterday, 85/73. Started on 10 and promptly hit one ob for a double. Because of the rebuilding greens the next hole was 13 and I hit a much better drive there to leave a 40m pitch. Made a series of pars , then towards the end of the round a few stuff ups, finished with a triple after a stupid greenside bunker shank over the green and down the hill.

Still, I'm seeing more progress each week to getting back to playing how I was earlier this year, just need to reduce or eliminate the silly mistakes and concentration lapses.

Finally managed a decent round today, 38 points (16/22). Started with a wipe after 3 duffed chips, but went around the rest pretty well. Birdied 10 from a fairway bunker then wiped 11, fairly steady for the rest of the round. Birdie on 16 but finished with a double after pulling my drive.

Wasteful of good positions on the front nine and burned a few edges on the back nine with the putting; sanded greens didn't help with that. 32 Points on Saturday in something they call a stablebrose. Is a mix of Ambrose and Stableford where you all tee off, choose the best drive and then play individual stableford from there against your individual handicaps (except par 3 - where all play).
Feel I did not hit anything near the middle of the irons and rarely got close to the middle of the driver but did chip quite well and had a few one putt greens, which helped my score.

Then decided just to try to walk a few holes for a social game on Sunday afternoon (have not been walking when playing comp due to the leg injury so relying on carts as I am not sure I can keep up) and played so much better. Shot 44 off the stick with 5 bogeys and a triple after decided to sacrifice a ball to the water gods. Chipped ok again and managed 15 putts but holed a lot in the 3 - 6 foot bracket.

The game is slowly getting there and the next step is for me to start walking 18 holes and not feel guilty about walking it (currently have a guilt trip because so many use the carts, concerned about slowing people down).

Funny the days that just pop up out of nowhere where you have almost absolute ball control, and then even when you don't you could get up and down out of a plastic bag inside a ball washer.

Played pennant on Sunday at Mareeba, and dominated from start to finish.

Regulation par to square the first hole before hitting a 169m 6-iron to 2 inches on the par 3 next, then chipping to another 2 inches for birdie on the par 5 next, 2up through 3. Chunked a chip on the next and lipped out the par putt from 15 feet for bogey, but then parred the next 4, before another lipped out par putt, even par with the card and 2 up through 9.

Another 2 pars, then made a 12 footer for birdie for 4up with 6 to play. 2 more pars sealed the deal for a 5/4 win, 1 under through 14 holes.

7/10 fairways
9/14 GIR
21 putts
5/7 up N downs

3 birdies
9 pars
2 bogeys

ALMOST makes you want to play this game semi-regularly.

Almost...
