They won the toss And batted. Looks like another one of those tournaments where the game is won at the toss :-s

They were saying on the news yesterday that the pitch crumbles fast and that that venue is notorious for low second innings totals. Toss was the key.

Looking forward to watching the Aussies take on the Poms tonight 8)

Will this game count for anything in the lead up to the Ashes series ?

I think so ;)

I think not.
The result of a pyjama cricket match won't affect a future test series.

Big game against the Kiwis on Wednesday night.

Watson looks to be repaying the faith the selectors have shown in him (sorry Dan) by scoring well and bowling quite tidily against the curry-munchers.

Mitchell Johnson is also looking like he might be our next big thing as far as bowlers go 8)

Judging by the lack of discussion in this thread, I dare say I'm not the only one struggling to find any interest in this tournament. Most of the teams seem to be treating it as an opportunity to experiment in preparation for something later, rather than actually trying to win.

The pitches have been terrible, and the cricket just hasn't been inspiring.

I don't think the play in this tournament will have any real influence on anything in the future. Watson and Johnson have looked good on dodgy Indian pitches though.

There's just too much one-day cricket. I didn't even know Australia had beaten the Indians until jarro posted above.

maybe it's just a Foxtel thing ?

They certainly seem to advertise this tournament quite heavily ;)

So, the fact it finishes at 3am or later has no bearing ??? :)

I will watch it a bit tonight but it's the wrong timezone for me to get too excited.

How much longer does this experiment have to go?

Jarro
1st November 2006, 08:53 PM
Jesus Fishy you're like a bloody broken record

Did you see him bat against India at all ???

Fishman Dan

Watson Duck 2/34 off 10
Watson 20 3/17 off 8
Watson 50 off 46 2/42 off 9
Watson Duck unknown

the experiment seems to have plenty of legs..

I don't like to read between the ducks.

Good thing Symonds is at the crease though, we'll be juuuuuuuust fine ;)

Jarro
2nd November 2006, 06:13 AM
right Fish .... nice 58 from Symonds ;)

Good win to the Aussies ..... McGrath bowled superbly to smash the Kiwis.

Isn't this thing over yet?

Jarro
2nd November 2006, 08:59 AM
not yet.

We have to play tonights winner out of South Africa and the West Indies in the final 8)

Hope the Windies win tonight.

right Fish .... nice 58 from Symonds ;)

Was he batting or bowling??

We could have been rolled for under 200. Then again, we should have smashed the Kiwi's for under 150.

agreed.

At 6/35 .. we should've rolled them for under the ton.

Australia Vs West Indies in the final.

Should be a good match, Windies have been in a bit of form in the shortened form of the game ..... we'll be looking for a bit of payback after they beat us earlier in the tournament.

Fishman Dan

Windies are the reigning champs too!

Jarro
6th November 2006, 07:59 AM
Easy win to the Aussies last night.

Good to see Watson make a few runs .... and looks like Bracken could be the man to help destroy the Poms in a fortnight as well 8)

3oneday
6th November 2006, 08:19 AM
So we shouldn't get the anti-Australian sentiment posted here, now they have won ;)

AndyP
6th November 2006, 09:05 AM
You're giving Bracken a test spot, jarro?

Jarro
6th November 2006, 09:18 AM
yeah, I think Bracken has been bowling really well and probably deserves a spot there. He'll get plenty of swing up here at the 'Gabba too.

3oneday
6th November 2006, 10:33 AM
1 test and they will drop him ;) like they always do :p

Jarro
6th November 2006, 10:38 AM
Who else are they going to put in there ??

Moe Norman
6th November 2006, 10:45 AM
Clark will be third seamer with Johnson an outside chance.

Bracken is an ODI specialist.

Clark's weekend shield performance probably just sealed his spot though, he destroyed them with 6-35 then belted 62 offf 37 balls for good measure.

Watson a deserved MOM, definately a big game players. He was MOM 2 out of 3 in the super series two ;)

Jarro
6th November 2006, 10:48 AM
Moe, i can't see Johnson getting the nod ahead of Bracken.

They sorta showed this when they left Johnson out of the final.

Not sure about Bracken being a specialist one-day player ??? He seems to perform pretty well in the longer version of the game. His awayswingers will be lethal against the Poms on a seaming 'Gabba wicket.

Moe Norman
6th November 2006, 10:53 AM
i'm not saying i think he's an ODI specialist, but i think thats the view of the selectors.

Picking him ahead of Johnson doesn't mean much for the test side. After all, Clarke and Symonds won't be in the test side will they?

I doubt wie'll find out though, Clark should get the nod, the only problem being he is a similar style to MacGrath while Johnson offers variation.

But I could think of worse people to bowl a similar style to....

Fishman Dan
6th November 2006, 03:38 PM
Watson should open in both forms of the game.

3oneday
6th November 2006, 04:38 PM

Moe Norman

nice try fishy

BrisWesty

Stuart Clark might be making a late rails run for the role of 2nd all-rounder. ;-) 8/72 or so for the match vs SA, and 62 of 37 balls.

Reckon the first test team will end up as
Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Martyn
Hussey
Watson
Gilchrist
Lee
Warne
Bracken
McGrath

I reckon it's a choice of MacGill or Johnson for 12th man. Bit of an embarassment of riches really. Clark hasn't even got a look in and Gillespie the double century maker has gotten dropped.

Oh course I hit Alt-c/Alt-v! Why would I type it out in full at "the dark side" AND here? Not everyone goes over to "the dark side".

Moe Norman

Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V - Oops my bad. Isn't it fortunate I'm not in IT!

The "dark side" is a light hearted comment about another golfing web site.
