View Full Version : Who's gunna win?

Forget who you would like to win, who do you think will win?

Feel free to explain your selection.

PeteyD

Broncos.

Grunt
26th September 2006, 11:44 AM
Well I voted Storm. I think they have a great gameplan that is very hard to beat. Their defence is very solid and not many teams put too many points on them.
In saying that I would prefer to see the Bronco's win as I think Shane Webke deserves to go out in style.

Moe Norman
26th September 2006, 11:48 AM
i'm not concerned who wins, but surely the Storm would have to be favourites?

Lost 4 games all year, beat the Broncs at Lang Park in a game Bennett said the Bronc's played very well.

Having said that, recent history has shown that runaway minor premiers don't win grand finals.

PeteyD
26th September 2006, 11:54 AM
Storm would probably be favourites. I am going broncos as I have been since the middle of their slump and ain't gonna change now. Either way my team only has a few days left as premiers :(

As much as I'd like to see Webke go out a winner, I've picked the Storm. Both teams have players who have the x-factor and who can turn games on their own. Cooper Cronk in particular has been severely underrated all year. Defense will be a critcal element. It will be a great test of Bellamy's capabilities against his old mentor. Supercoach vs. Supercoach.

It's been a good year for Queensland in the Origin, so why not another fairytale win for the Broncos... I might even watch it.

I think the Broncos can win it. They seem to really have a lot of momentum at the right time of the year for once. Plenty of motivation to send Webbie out as a winner as well.

The Storm have been awesome all year. Very disciplined in attack and solid in defence.

Should be a great game :)

How much more of a decent football team would you want.

One coach for 20 years,5 premierships in the last 14 years and a team full of champions lead by a true champion.

I don't think I have ever seen Lockyer carry on like that grub Johns does when things aren't going his way, absolute disgrace the way he carries on like a toddler sometimes

cross the park, man on man the Broncos would come out just ahead. not that I disagree with you, but thats an iteresting statement.

Respective team lists with a position vs position analysis please!

I'd say the Broncs have them covered at 5/8 and in the props for sure. Melbourne would have them covered at half back and hooker. I'd also give Matty Geyer the points over Darius Boyd.

I wouldn't even bother trying to debate whether King and Inglis is a better combo than Hodges and Tate, then you have Slater versus Hunt. Carroll versus Johnson.

It's an interesting debate, but I think the weakest links at the broncs are weaker than at the Storm. Perry, Boyd and a couple of others I don't reckon would get a game for the Storm.

Have to back up that comment, I really think they have the mental game that is better than the Bronco's. Everyone may say they played poorly for instance against the Eels in the 1st semi, but they did enough to win. They did this just about all year.
I think Bellamy might go down in the annuls of NRL history as one of the greatest coaches ever. He may have been Bennett's apprentice but as with evolution the next generation is normally better and he is a great exmple of this.

No one has overpowered the Storm pack this year, White held his own last week and has every week, no reason he won't again.

Smith has Berrigan ALL over the park sorry. Bulldogs were all over him until they went missing. Same goes for Perry, ineffective until the 2nd half last week. Came good on the back of ineffective defence from the Dogs.

That game took a lot out of the Broncos, Storm didn't spend a cent.

On exposedform, the Storm should win. Remember, the Storm were 3rd favourites on Saturday morning ;)

Hard and tough. Both teams exhausted at the end, the way a final should be. couple of contentious decisions fell to the broncos, although I think the refs were not that bad.

A knock is a knock on, regardless of who hits it first (disallowed try).

Berrigan fumbled and regathered prior to having the ball pulled away (might have been called a loose carry) however Melbourne were offside a mile on the previous play and stopped a try, so it evens out.

Best team on the paddock won. Brisbanes defense, particularly first half, was awesome.

Disallowed try, seems only you and Bill (i'm never wrong) Harrigan thought it came of a Melbourne bloke.
Berrigan had lost the ball when Slater took it - play on.
Berrigan committed a blatant shepherd then when getting tackled got tackled around the head - penalty Storm
Brisbane then scored from the kickoff, hmmm there's 4 turning points ;)

Final result, Storm 14 Brisbane 6

Premiers, Brisbane :)

Good game though :)

Bruce

The disallowed try shows up an area of the rules I am now wondering about. If a player makes contact with the oppositions arm but not the ball to knock the ball forward is that a knock on? They really only showed one angle last night and to me it looked like the storm player's arm was outside the broncos player's.

you also failed to mention that in the 50th minute King scored a try after he was offside from a kick from the front-rower in Ben Cross :smt002

I just watched the replay and saw that Hodges actually lost the ball backwards in the attempted take, then it was knocked forward by Hoffman ..... knock on to the Storm for mine.

But it was a great game

How did the ball not touch the melbourne guys arm? It doesn;t matter if it touched Hodges hand first and then touched the melbourne player, who was definately playing at the ball. The ball is a crap load larger than a hand.

A steal is a steal and the most stupid rule in the sport, you gotta hang onto the bloody ball.

The shepherd was about 5 metres passed the play, silly defender still committed to the tackle. But agreed should have been a penalty to Melbourne the way they are ruling it now. Funny I always thought the point of the dummy runner was to suck in the defender ...

Not that it matters. What is done is done! Well done Brisbane, Roll on 2007. tigers to win ;)

The thing is, just change one of those plays and the whole game changes. You can't say that if melbourne try allowed then they win. Cause they get the ball back from the kick and the whole way the game played out changes. Melbourne could have scored 5 more times, or brisbane could have.

This is becoming so Dr Who/Hitchhikers Guide. My head is spinning.
