Hi all, first post here…

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a golf coach in Sydney? I am currently a 20 handicap and have had about 10 lessons with a coach down at my local driving range and I’ve basically made zero improvement over 6 months. While I’m sure he works for some people I’m just not quite getting what he wants me to do (hit it with my right shoulder) and every lesson basically just focuses on that. I think I need someone that has more than one way to describe or make me feel what I’m supposed to do…

A good teacher definitely should find a way of teaching that works for you.

I’m just near Rhodes.

Yeah I just need to find a good one! I was getting frustrated thinking that there was something wrong with me because I practice around 2 times a week and would have thought that my ball striking would improve with lessons after 6 months. Yet I still hit fat/thin shots the majority of the time.

I reccomend Kurt Stegbauer at Brighton Lakes.
He won Coach/Pro of the year for NSW couple times
He relates well to all level of golfers.

If you’re at Rhodes, I’d consider Lorien Scott at Concord GC.

He was previously at Bonnie Doon and NSWGC and I’ve known a large handful of blokes who’ve seen him and really benefited.

I (38yo 2hcp) am currently seeing Warwick Dews at NSWGC and so is a mate who is a c. 55-60yo 16hcp. We compare notes and he teaches us in quite different ways, communicates relative to our preferred way of learning, very tailored and targeted. It’s a decent drive from Rhodes though.

Wasko, depends on what you are working on, I prefer to see my shots in flight if I'm having a lesson, which leads me to instructors who teach at driving ranges rather than clubs.

Its a massive hike from Rhodes but I can certainly recommend Dave Saunders at Pittwater Golf Centre (Narrabeen)

Ray Hawkins at Precision Golf at Chatswood has gotten some good feedback on here (including from me). It’s indoor but has a great setup.

I can't believe that nobody has suggested that he should just buy new clubs instead. What has happened to OZgolf?

Was just going to say to head there.
One of the lads from the club knows him personally and sees him as a coach.
Comes highly recommend, plus real balls and trackman an absolute must.
I presume that’s what he uses.....? Yep

Yep Yep. Premo balls and high end trackman sim setup in the teaching rooms. The indoor range has real balls and trackman in all bays too.

I was going to suggest removing clubs from his bag

Thanks for the recommendations, I will check them out.

In terms of what I need to work on I'm not too sure, whatever it takes to get more consistent contact. I understand path and am capable of adjusting it to swing in to out or out to in but regardless of what I do good contact is intermittent. My best guess is I am probably casting from the top, perhaps because I have tendency to be too narrow on my backswing and lose width. I think the main issue I am suffering from now is I have absolutely no idea what I should be doing when I'm standing over the ball. The shoulder thought doesn't work for me so I don't really have anything to focus on.
