Oh, I get to start this thread!

PPPPPPbBP-PBPBBPPBP - 75/35 points

Bit of a let down, got on the bogey train on the back 9 and struggled to get off. Hit driver well, wedges still have room to improve.

Thanks. Handicap went up 0.5 though because a played to 0 flag came off :). Hopefully I can play ok at Blackwood on Monday, not a course I've scored well at previously.

02/04/2021, Virginia GC (Heritage 19-27), Social.

Stats: 3/7 fairways, 2/9 greens, 15 putts.
Score: BBBXbPPBP; 40 (+5). Played to 7.2. SCH 7.9 (+0.0)

This was garbage compared to Wednesday on a garbage course. I decided to wear a long sleeved shirt that I've hardly worn to test it out. Big fail! It felt quite restrictive around the shoulders and in the arms, which threw me off, then screwed with me mentally. The swing was off, and the greens were crap, so I couldn't get those shots back on the green. I'll throw this one in the bin.

My highlight was hitting a big 6 iron hook around a tree blocking my approach. I never have a problem hitting fades or slices, but I've never been able to draw or hook on command. Practicing some Adam-Way at Gailes the other day seems to have paid off.

Next round: Sunday comp and Nudgee, potentially in the rain.

To put it bluntly I’ve played like sh!t since at least Nov.

Thanks to Bryden McPherson’s win on Sunday i went back and reviewed the Brad Hughes drills I had been doing last year. A couple of hours and a couple of Brookvales hitting balls last night was time well spent.

Best game in about 12 months.

72(42pts) - 3 birdies and 3 bogies.

04/04/2021, Nudgee (Gateway Temp 2), Stableford.

Stats: 2/10 fairways, 8/18 greens, 30 putts.
Score: PPPXPPPBP PBBBPXBBb; 38:41:79 (+5:+6:+11).
Played to 9.2. Golflink 9.3 (-0.2). SCH 8.2 (+0.3)

After talking up my 200 steel as a fairway finder, it went terribly, as did the driver. I lost plenty of shots because of those clubs yesterday, including a quadruple bogey on the 4th after a tidy start.

Eight greens is a nice number to hit, but I realised afterwards that I hit all eight par 3 greens (-1 for par 3s), and not a single other green for the round. That's not great, but missing fairways doesn't help with that, and I had a few that landed on greens then ran off the back.

Next round: Looking for somewhere next Sunday before midday. Maybe the Championship course at Virginia.

18 holes at Marion GC today 46/43 for 89 (+20)

Played better than the score would suggest, just a couple of 7s among bogeys, pars and 1 birdie on the 4th hole. Turns out missing the green on the 9th hole means your ball runs off 70m left down a hill... Quite harsh indeed. I enjoyed the course though and the views from the 2nd tee are probably the best in Metro Adelaide. The course is also quite good value - $26 for 18 holes.

The 9th at Marion is a tough hole. I won it in pennants with a double bogey.

I shot 85 at Blackwood today in the vardon - hit the ball well, putted ok, just got into some horrible positions and couldn't score. Bunker trouble too - got plugged in the face of two different bunkers! And smoked a 6 iron into the penalty area behind the 14th green - a 190m par 3! (Although slightly downhill)

Hook into lake. Drop, nail three wood from rough and catch the tops of the trees on the inside of the corner for three. End up dead.
Punch out, hit another tree further up. Have 180 carry for 5th. Hit it 179m into piss. Finally get over after 7 just short of the green needing to get to the top tier.

Chip right on line for the flag, hit a sprinkler head, bounce 90degrees right and roll all the way down the hill, 5m behind where I was.

Miss a 3 footer for a moose.

94/75 at Keperra on Sunday (1-18). Drove it pretty well although it took a little while to get into the groove there. I hit 7/13 fairways with 5/7 on the back 9. Unfortunately the radar with the irons was off and I kept missing greens, mainly to the right, although the actual contact was nice and clean. Pitching and chipping was pretty good though, and 30 putts this time which I was happy with.

Back at Oxley this Sunday for the comp there. Hopefully I can score better this time, had a few rounds of mediocre scoring there recently.

First round since MM in March.Been struggling with a sciatic nerve, then, while doing the lawns in bare feet managed to walk on some rusty steel the mower flung up and ended with a foot infection. So after not having swung a club for 5 weeks, I had 35points.I am stoked with that score, 6 over thru the first 9, 1 over for the back.
0 birdies for the day,4 chances

It was nice to get back on the course after a rain-affected absence of a few weeks. I tried the Matsuyama pause, in honour of the great man, but it didn't work for me the way it works for him. There may be a talent gap between me and him, as well. 30 points was a poor score, but about right for the way I hit the ball. I just didn't have anything quite working, so not even any highlights to report.

14/04/2021, Howeston (Weston/Westward), Solo.

Stats: 6/14 fairways, 7/18 greens, 33 putts.
Score: BXBPBPPBB BPPBPXPbB; 43:39:82 (+7:+4:+11).

No warmup, so the first few holes were very dodgy, but after that there was no excuse for how poorly I was hitting it. If the driver had a hosel, I would have had a couple of shanks with it too, not that the irons were that much better (but not shanking).

Hitting my third into the par 4 11th still 100m away, I flicked a switch and got the swing working properly most of the time, with just the occasional hiccup. 4 from 5 fairways and 6 from 7 greens after that. Putting was decent, but a little difficult to be consistent, when the greens were very dewy, then dried, plus the mowing was getting done, while I was there.

Hopefully I can catch any swing issues a little earlier in the next round.

Next round: Wynnum with a couple of OZgolf spunks.

Forgot to post my round last Thursday - an un-remarkable 76 for 35 points.

Hit the ball really well today, drove well, chipped & putted well - just couldn't get my approaches close enough, only hit 5 GIRs. Lack of practice there is definitely costing me shots. Still, a pretty good round.

I played at Howeston last Saturday (Howard/Weston), it was still quite damp from all the rain recently. I liked the soft greens but my head wasn't quite in it. Still kept up my recent improvement in tee shots hitting 7/14 fairways so happy with that. Ended up with 91 off the stick in the end, dropped off in GIR lately, hopefully will rectify that on Sunday

Their greens were softer than soft. So were the surrounds, at least on one hole. Went left of a green on a short par 3 and it plugged. The whole ball was just about below the surface. 😂I probably won't go back anytime soon, wasn't my most favourite course I've ever played.

I'd go back for sure for a hit with mates, but it is a bit too far from home for me. $20 for unlimited holes is great value, and it wasn't as bad as I expected. The walks between a few holes was a bit annoying though.

Is it really busy on a weekend? If it was super slow, then that might change my opinion a bit too.

It wasn't overly busy, but it appears to attract those who are just there to muck around, came across a group like that early on but they let us through. Those walks were a bit annoying to me too. It's a fair way from me as well and considering I can play Oxley for about the same price and only drive 5-10 minutes I'd rather go there. Or Gailes, McLeod, Jindalee are all close by as well.

It doesn't compare with a member's course, but Corinda, Vic Park, and St Lucia would be better comparisons as a public courses, where you are not restricted in when you can play. It is much better than Corinda, and much cheaper than the other two.

It is the cheapest of pretty much all of them that are closer to me, however I don't mind paying a bit extra to play on a better course and not drive 40+ minutes to get there. Yeah mate, that’s the one and you’re right, tough hole especially if it’s not a front pin. Anything middle to back is difficult to get at because of the pinch and the ridge through the middle.

On Easter Monday I hit it close too…

Ordinary 29 points off 16 at Oxley yesterday (96 off the stick). Couldn't hit the side of a barn with the driver, hopefully that's just a one off as I've been hitting it pretty well for the last couple of months. Only hit 3 fairways and one was a lucky bounce off a tree to the left. Managed 5 greens, but putting was hot and cold all day. Had my first 4 putt since last August on the back 9 which otherwise consisted of 1 and 2 putts.

I couldn't get into any sort of rhythm, which may have been due to having to wait around a lot of the time. I wasn't going too bad with 43/17 points after 9 holes, but it just fell apart after that.

Windaroo on Sunday with the social club, hopefully it'll be better.

18/04/2021, Wynnum GC, Blue Tees, Stableford.

Stats: 7/13 fairways, 5/18 greens, 26 putts.
Score: BXbXXbXPP XBPBPPPPb; 41:39:80 (+7:+3:+10); Stab 15:19:34pts.
Played to 10.3. Golflink: 9.2 (-0.1). SCH: 8.2 (0.0)

I started with garbage ball striking off the soggy fairways, that saw two birdies amongst five double bogies for the first ten holes. It was really disappointing because the driver was having its best day for ages, and the irons were letting me down. I was much more consistent on the back nine, and managed just one over for the last eight to post a respectable score, which should be a flag for the handicap.

Edit: I just worked out that this is my lowest score at Wynnum. Nice!

I feel like I'm on the verge of having a really good round, especially with the number of birdies I've been making, but it just won't all come together for a full 18 at the moment.

Next round: Wolly Park next Monday is the plan.

A slightly encouraging nett 77 in a stroke event today. I was struggling after 8 holes, made a swing adjustment that worked, and played OK from that point. So I'm fairly happy.

It was almost a North Korean-like total of 1 though. My drive on the first struck the trees and disappeared. I wasn't going to do the walk of shame off the first and then back to the first tee, so it was almost a 1 shot round. One of my playing partners lost a ball on the 18th, and refused to go back, so he technically wasted an entire day. He already had heaps, so it didn't matter, but this is why I hate stroke events. You can't hit a provisional every time you hit a tree.

No holes in one for me today. I did hit one to about 8 feet, but it wasn't even a NTP, and I missed the putt. My total was a nothing special 35 points, which is my best score for a while.

But it was a major choke, and I'd be proud of my handicap farming if I had something to farm towards. I was 2 up after 14, with three shot holes still to come. Bad drives on all three meant I was saving bogey, and three putts on all the last three holes meant I turned an easy 38 or better into 35. But for the most part I played well, and I may have fixed a few swing problems.

Cheers boys, when you go 15-20 years without one, you always suspect it may have been your last

Well done Mick, that back right pin is really tough.

I'm happy just to hit that green or make a par.

Still waiting for my first hole in one too, and it didn't happen today.

Average round, but can't really complain about the score.

PPBPPPPBB-XPbBPPPPP 76/35pts

Was good off the tee, but another poor round with short irons & wedges - only 6 GIR, and not many good looks at birdie. Missed a few makeable birdie putts, but sunk a few longer par putts, including a lovely down-hill left-right on 18. A couple of average chips thrown in for good measure. The 6 on 10 was bad - missed the 4 foot par putt, got cranky, then missed the bogey putt too.

Played at Windaroo this morning in the social club. Exactly the same score as last time - 97 🤣 for 33 points. I started pretty well with a bogey followed by four pars and a bogey, then a couple of bad holes followed by three good holes, then a run of poor shots and terrible luck blew any hope of keeping the score down. Tee shots were on point over the first 10 holes hitting 7/8 fairways and a par 3 green, then they started drifting left for some reason.

One par 5 summed up the back 9. Hit the tee shot out of bounds, then had a wedge shot from about 80m hit one of those metal arch things they put in on the fringe to block carts and shoot off into the rough, then buried the club in the soft ground chipping it back to the green which lost distance, and 3 putted to top it all off. This was after hitting a bunker shot 160m on the previous hole to the green and 2 putting from 15m or whatever it was for par. Silly game at times 😂

26/04/2021, Wolston Park GC, Blue Tees, Stableford.

Stats: 1/11 fairways, 4/18 greens, 27 putts.
Score: PPPPBBPXB XPBPBPbPB; 37:40:77 (+5:+5:+10); Stab 17:16:33pts.
Played to 11.6. Golflink: 9.2 (-0.0). SCH: 8.2 (-0.0)

Another ordinary start, but disguised by three consecutive sand save pars. There is no consistency with the irons or woods lately, so scoring was always going to be tough. I had a half decent run on the back nine to keep it a respectable score, and 10 over is pretty good considering there were two shanks and an OOB in there. I keep waiting for the good round to happen, but maybe I'm doomed to be consistently inconsistent.

Next round: Ashgrove next Monday.

Stroke round today at Stirling GC. Couldn't really get going. Played the hard holes well and the easy holes poorly. Highlight was a nice birdie on 9 after a solid hybrid to 70m and then a 54 degree wedge to 2 feet.
Ended up with an 84 (42/42) for a net 71 (par is 67).

Sunday Medal today, Stableford.

Went out with 14 points, couldn't buy a putt. Came back in with 21, after a lipout on the last to par the front 9.

Have now dropped to 7.4, my lowest hcap ever

Yesterday, 90/80, in fog where visibility was 50m for the first 5 holes.
You couldn't see the women's tees from the blues. Funky.

Today 36 points, 39 putts. No birdies, despite 11 GIRs. Fmd.

Remember playing in conditions like that many years ago, use to give the group in front five minutes then let fire.

Remember playing in conditions like that many years ago, use to give the group in front five minutes then let fire. We yelled back when clear of the group in front. Two blokes in the second group lost balls and had to return to the tee.We got around in 1.38 front nine, then 4.40 for the round 😭

29 points at Oxley today off 16. Started well with 18 points on the front 9 (+7 off the stick) then the wheels fell off. Fairways and greens stats were rubbish, but at least I'm putting better. 28 last week and 32 today. It's been nice being able to take the flag out again. For some reason I feel more confident putting without it in, at least when I'm close enough to see the hole properly.
