Our local pro left for greener pastures, and, due to Covid, we haven't found a replacement. Therefore, I am looking at picking up a cheap exactor to do my own minor fiddling around - mainly removing tips from shafts.

Would the Golf Mechanix one be any good for that sort of thing?

And yes, I did a quick search but got about a million hits, so thought I would directly ask ...

And yes, I did a quick search but got about a million hits, so thought I would directly ask ...I am not a huge fans of extrators that dont have preload (hydraulic or spring), as you can overheat things if your not careful.

If you are careful, that extractor will be fine.

I have the Golf Mechanix one and its perfect for my needs. I didn't pay that price tag though (much cheaper - ozgolf special)

I agree, more attention and care needs to be used when using these type of extractors.

On a more serious note, is there a recommendation for a good one (without spending thousands).

I cant think of anything you could buy local that's reasonably priced. If you trawl gumtree and ebay maybe...
