Hey ya'll,

Just wondering what the consensus is on the titliest 980 fairway's. I'm thinking of a 5 wood, maybe even a 3 and 5 the same if cheap enough.

I realise that the newer models may be better, but dollars are a factor. Also thinking of just getting another warbird 5 wood to match my 3 wood.

Any idea's

Some people, Terry for instance, swear by the 980F's. I'm not a fan. They have a pronounced curved leading edge and I just can't get them off the deck. The earlier 975F is easier to hit, IMHO. And obviously the 904F is better again!!

Grab a couple of 904's now that the new model is out. Head and shoulders above the 980 (I think it's a terrible club).

There are lots of good fairway woods out there that are a few years old....I'd look at Callaway SH III also, great clubs for the money......

That's cool. I need something easy to hit anyway. Not that good with my fairway clubs. As a heads up for anyone interested, someone on ebay is selling a 3 and 5 980f's in one auction and it was at $150 last night with no bids and about 2 days left now. I figured it was pretty cheap if they are ok.

Might keep my eyes open for a warbird 5 wood cheap. Unless anyone's got something out there going cheap that's ok. Wouldn't mind a matched 3 and 5 either, not too concerned about condition if they work. I use pings so I'm not too concerned about the look of my clubs ;)

I was a terrible fairway wood player from the deck, and then I bought a pair of 980F's. 15* & 19* and they transformed that part of my game. Very easy to hit, IMO. I have them with DG S300's, and they are workable, forgiving, and just plum easy to hit, IMO. YMMV.

The 2 I'm looking at have ys-6 stiffs too, which is a shaft I've hit well before. Wot to do wot to do.

Get em Goughy,I agree with Oz.Before I put the 980 in the bag I didn't carry a 3 wood for about 3 years(maybe more).Just couldn't find one that I could hit.I found it (and still do) very easy to hit and get in the air and I have the 13*.

Terry.

Nathan currently has a 3 and 5 in the 980's and has no trouble at all hitting them. On the odd occasion I have stolen them out of his bag I have found them very solid.

Would not hesitate to play them.

Another vote for the 980 here. I can hit mine no problems and I am a hack, so jump on em Goughy. That's a great price too.

Go buy an Adams -stupid easy to hit which is all that matters in a fairway wood.
