Grunt
7th September 2006, 05:52 PM
Sounds ok, Trying to play in comps if I can on the way up, either to blow the handicap in or out before the champs;)

AndyP

Will be hard to win the Champs if you aren't playing on Sunday......

Andy, The days are where I will be staying the nights.

Grant,

If you've never played Bonville you should do so, either on one of your days in Coffs or on the way back.

Architecture purists don't like it, but it's the most scenic course I've ever played.

It's a great course to play once.

If you have played it, don't bother playing it again. Drive a bit further and play either Tallwoods or Tuncurry instead.

BrisVegas
7th September 2006, 10:34 PM
If you go inland there are some worthy course. Goondiwindi is good, as is Moree. Something different anyway. Gundy is a cracker of a course. I was a member there in 92!

AndyP
8th September 2006, 06:10 AM
You don't come through Goondiwindi/Moree if coming inland from Sydney, only Melbourne.

I'm sure Fishy would like to hear that you took a slight detour to Casino.
Maybe you could play Ocean Shores near Byron on the way up, Grunt.

Grunt
8th September 2006, 06:16 AM
Looking @ Ocean Shores on the Wednesday now.

Very true, Jim. It has some shocking faults, but it still needs to be played once.

All the trucks to brissie from sydney pass the gundi then toowoomba. Further distance but faster trip as there are less 60 zones.

Jono
9th September 2006, 09:32 AM
Grant,

As AP suggested, Ocean Shores is a good course. You should also consider Murwillumbah (sp?). If you are coming up the coast, it's only a slight detour. Good layout with Mount Warning in the background. If you haven't climbed Mount Warning, it's worthwhile doing that one afternoon. It'll give you a break from golf as well. Fantastic view from the top. 8)

It'll give you a break from golf as well.

A BREAK FROM GOLF!

You would not believe the tourist attractions I've missed when I'm on a golfing holiday.

Golfing holidays are for golf. Now, let me hear no more of this 'mountain climbing, have the afternoon off golf' type of stuff.

You're a doctor. You should know better.

Grant..all these golf trips, you have a very understand wife...

Any tips for me?

Grunt
19th September 2006, 05:41 PM
Well still undecided where I will play Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th October, Muwillumbah/Ocean Shores are in the ball park.

cazandpaul
20th September 2006, 05:28 AM
I was going to suggest Burleigh on the Thursday but green renovations would only have been completed 10 days prior - still welcome though.

Grunt
20th September 2006, 06:49 PM
Burliegh might be the go, I could stay at the Mother in laws @ Elanora the Wednesday & Thursday nights. Drive up to play Nudgee on Friday morning.

Grunt
21st September 2006, 09:23 PM
Well I think the first week is settled, have added Murwillumbah/Ballina & Burliegh to Wednesday/Thursday

21st September 2006, 10:18 PM
Grunt - Give Nudgee the big flick and go and play Keperra [Northside of Brisbane] instead......a much better course and always in better nick,
damoocow

BrisVegas
22nd September 2006, 08:33 AM
Does Keperra have an open comp on the Friday damo? I don't mind whether it's Nudgee or Keperra as long as it's comp golf!

AndyP
22nd September 2006, 08:40 AM
I don't think so, but Wynnum, Oxley and Pacific do.

Friday's game is where ever the boys organise, I think AP or Jarro are doing that part of it.

Grunt
22nd September 2006, 08:45 AM
Also spoke with Mother in law last night and I will be staying there Wednesday & Thursday nights. That is in Elanora, on the GC. How long a drive is it up to Bne in the morning peak? Will it not be a good drive for the Friday game?

I drove up from GC to Nudgee last time and I allowed 2 hours. The traffic on the Gateway was pretty bad.

Grunt
22nd September 2006, 09:09 AM
Thanks Jono, I thought as much. If it is a 8am tee off or the like then I am looking at 6am departure.

BrisVegas
22nd September 2006, 09:20 AM
it's a shocking drive GC to Bris on a work day. If we play a bit later, say 9-10 ish you'd have much less traffic... plus that time would suit me too!

dc68
22nd September 2006, 10:04 AM
I don't think so, but Wynnum, Oxley and Pacific do.

Grunt say you want to play at Pacific just to piss Vegas off.  :smt002

I can organise for you fellas, might even take a dive from work.

it's been a few months since my last horror outing at Pacific.... I could play there again. :smt002 It's a tougher test of golf than Nudgee, Wynnum and Oxley. My vote would actually be for Keperra as i haven't played it in 10 years, but I'm not organising the day so I really don't care too much...

Actually that being the last Friday of the month it will be the Turtle Creek Blue Marker challenge at Pacific, so it would be a good warm up for the champs if you want a really strong test.

Ok who else is keen? these are really good days if you can crack your h'cap you get a dozen nuts if not its a good chance to get that extra .1 you need.
Also very easy to find Grunt only 3 or 4 turns off the Gateway Motorway.

Hey I don't want to hijack the game that AP/Jarro is organising for this date. The game was set up for Bruce.

True. Apologies to all might have jumped the gun here. will hold off.

;)

Jarro
22nd September 2006, 10:59 AM
I'd be keen to play there instead of at Nudgee.

If that's what everyone else wants to do.

AndyP
22nd September 2006, 11:03 AM
Better to discuss in the actual Pre-champs round thread, so others can have input.
The drive may be easier for Grunt, but tougher for those coming down from Bribie.

Grunt
26th September 2006, 10:45 AM
Just found out I may be able to claim some of the costs of my trip in my tax next year. One of the companies I am a shareholder in is having it's AGM in BNE on the 26th. If I go to that and have a rest day in BNE I should be able to claim some accom & transport cost for the AGM.

dc68
26th September 2006, 11:26 AM
Sweet.

Grunt
27th September 2006, 08:04 PM
If I go for the AGM's I have 2 in Bne on both Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th. I could use these as a Tax claim for the week. Not sure if it will be worth missing a golf day though. Might just do the Wednesday one. Maybe we could all meet up for a mid week late lunch/Drink on the Wednesday.

AndyP
27th September 2006, 08:28 PM
Do you think you could stomach a Fat Bastard burger?

Grunt
27th September 2006, 08:31 PM
Could try!!

Grunt
28th September 2006, 06:52 PM
So who's keen for a Late lunch/Drink on the Wednesday before the Champs? If I go to the AGM it should be over by 1:30/2pm. It's supposed to start @ 10:30 @ the Stamford Plaza.

AndyP
28th September 2006, 06:55 PM
Grunt, is it Suncorp?
Can you be my proxy?

That's a pretty late lunch, and I usually have a 2pm meeting.
If you could find something to do until about 4, I may be able to disappear for a few drinks after work. Of course, with the big weekend coming up, I won't be able to stay too late or there will be big trouble at home.

Grunt
28th September 2006, 06:58 PM
No it is Watpac, a company invoved in commercial building. I understand everyone being tied to having leave passes for the weekend too. I edited the post too, posting details of the AGM start, may be finished earlier than I thought.

Grunt
4th October 2006, 09:56 PM
Anyone got Google Earth links for QLD courses?

AndyP
5th October 2006, 08:38 AM
Do a search on this site for it. I'm pretty sure some where listed.
Nudgee was listed by Jarro.
Bribie Is and PH won't come up on Google Earth at high resolution though.

Grunt
5th October 2006, 08:40 AM
Yeah I noticed that last night Andy, Pacific Harbour also looks to be in the very early stages of development when the shots were taken.
I think I found Nudgee last night, is it the Golf Course north of the airport and just off the freeway to the right when heading north?

AndyP
5th October 2006, 08:43 AM
I think I found Nudgee last night, is it the Golf Course north of the airport and just off the freeway to the right when heading north?
Yes, it has 36 holes. The North course, which is where we most likely will be playing is mostly on the bay side. South on the freeway side.

Grunt
6th October 2006, 10:55 AM
Well have updated the plans in the initial post.

Added;

Attending Watpac AGM,Stamford Plaza, Brisbane 25th Oct 10:30am
Lakelands (pencil) 1st NovMay be able to meet up for Pre-Champs Drinks/Lunch after the AGM meeting. Would be good to catch up with any of the OzGolfers not attending the champs.

Grunt
9th October 2006, 09:34 AM
more changes:

Canned the AGM in favour of a game with Stoney and BV @ Carbrook. Game @ Lakelands is probably more likely to be closer to no than yes now as the funds may very well have run dry by then.

Grunt
9th October 2006, 10:35 AM
Accomodation details all set

22nd & 23rd - Sanctuary Resort - Coffs Harbour
24th,25th & 26th - Elanora (in laws)
27th & 28th - Fairways Resort - Bribie Is.
29th & 30th - Chifey On George - Brisbane
31st, 1st & 2nd - Elanora (in laws).

All starting to fall into place now. Only 6 more work days till champs time:mrgreen:. 14 days till my first game of the trip.

On another note is the Tresury Casino a good place to get a cheap feed. Bruce and I are staying at the Chifley on George, Sunday & Monday nights, supposedly 50m from the casino. From previous experiences with casinos in Australia the food is subsidised by the gamblers. Is this the case up there? Might be a good place to get dinner each night.

Why bother eating at the Casino?
It's right in the middle of the CBD at the end of the main mall. You'll have your pick of restaurants or fast food places.

Grunt

Another good thing is a couple of the planned games are 4BBB rounds; Tuesday @ Coffs & Thursday @ Burliegh, will be good pressures off practice rounds to tweak anything that is slipping in my game before the champs.
I can't sleep tonight, oh thats right I am working nightshift ;) 1 more sleep at home till Grunt leaves.
