After many meeting over the last few weeks the season got started last night in strange circumstances with the game played over shortened quarters and no crowd due to COVID 19.

Strange experience watching without the crowd noise. Was more like watching a competitive training session.

Big watch this space now for what happens with further games throughout the year.

If the season does get called off, the good news is that Essendon's streak of not winning a final will extend to more than 6200 days.

The only responsible thing to do is to call of the remainder of the season if this is the case :)

Logic of an AFL team:

1. Book and fly private plane to avoid corona
2. Book entire floor out in hotel to avoid corona
3. Travel to game and not shake hands
4. Hug, sweat, grab, each other
5. All drink out of shared bottles.
6. End match and congratulate each other.
7. Hug each other while singing team song.
8. Go home and spend time with your loved ones.

Why couldn't they play their finals later?

The AFLW got hung out to dry.Why couldn't they play their finals later?Gillon didnt say ( or at least the Telly didnt quote him) but I agree, they could have just deferred. Cancelling the AFL wasnt their choice though, given half the country has banned interstate travel.

A lot of the women are part time footballers, so it would have been logistically harder.

Plus, the AFL cares less about their competition.

Crows are tossbags. Get special exemption to train then they go blow it with the social distancing of AFL Rules.

Give me repeat stoppages anyday over this new rubbish where you just drop it, push it along or play tunnel ball non stop. There would have been 200 incorrect disposal frees any other year in this Freo Pies game.

Kelsey86
4th August 2020, 01:26 AM
Repeat stoppages are boring. It's meant to be a free flowing game not a rolling maul and congestion everywhere because they're playing under 12s style with everyone on both sides following the ball wherever it goes. If I wanted to watch that I'd watch rugby. Anything that reduces that shit is a good thing.

Hatchman
4th August 2020, 11:21 AM
AFL would have to be one of the more difficult games to Umpire as a number of the rules are very much interpretation.
The biggest issue with the game v the past is the amount of Umpires on the ground.
First there was 1 Umpire so only 1 interpretation which had a fair chance of being consistent for the day.
Then the game needed 2 to catch the off ball stuff so we ended up having 2 possible interpretations.
Now with the speed of the game we have 3 with quite often 3 different interpretations of what is a free or play on.

Hatchman
4th August 2020, 11:25 AM
I lost interest in the AFL couple years ago with rule changes. How many others are in the same boat?

I haven't lost complete interest but I no longer buy club Membership, Season Tickets or will pay to see a game.
I like to sit down and watch it on tele and if I don't like the game on the day due to it being poor will walk away and do something else.
High or low scoring also has nothing to do if I like a game or not too.

The constant fiddling is annoying, but I still enjoy the game for the most part. I also live in false hope that it might get back to something resembling what drew me to it as a kid in the mid 90s, free flowing, big kicks, big forward marks... instead of this stoppage fest and flooding everyone back in defence BS that happens more often than not these days. It's a pointless and stupid tactic to me, because when they do win the ball they have nobody to kick to as they're all still in the defensive 50. I know it doesn't always happen but when it does it just makes for a boring and frustrating game.

Finals time and not much chatter.
The favorites all lost in the first week.

Cats and Tigers both in fight not to go out in straight sets.
The Saints have been handed a blow with Ryder out injured, Carlisle returning home for birth of child and Long having to contest a suspension for rough conduct.

I think they are a very strong chance to bow out of another finals series against the Pies.
Lots of aging names that must be close to calling it quits on their careers too. Their slide into the bottom 8 is fast approaching I think.

I think they are a very strong chance to bow out of another finals series against the Pies.Lots of aging names that must be close to calling it quits on their careers too. Their slide into the bottom 8 is fast approaching I think. I'm mad pies, but think we're up against it. Cats had Port in the 1st half, kick straight and they're 3-4 goals up at half time.GO PIES

Score board pressure is everything in finals. Their shots were mostly from wide low percentage positions. If your really on you make them and if you don't the door is open for the opposition.
I think the Cats are more worried about playing your Pies than they would have West Coast. Cats also have finals failure pressure under Scott to deal with.

I'm really hope that the Cats lose this week, or next week, to continue Chris Scott's legacy.

I tipped one out of 4 last weekend so what do I know, but I see the Cats getting up. Pies were outstanding last week, but are they good enough to do it two weeks in a row? I don't think so.

I know **** all re AFL but watched that game last week. Hawkins went 0.5 should have kicked 3, Rohan usually kicks 1 or 2 didn’t even have a shot and the lost by 3 goals. They can’t play that bad again. I’m on the Cats.

Rohan goes missing in finals without failure. Was never in any danger of threatening the score board.

True, but he has popped up with a goal most games....
Tigers do it easy or saints on some sort of roll?

Didn't they stop the season in March for COVID?

For Adelaide, North Melbourne, Essendon and Hawthorn, Yes. Well not really but they all played like it was stopped for the year.

Well done Richmond and well done Dusty on a 3rd Norm Smith.

Nice for him to get one on merit. I still feel bad for Houli not getting it in 2017.
