View Full Version : 2023 VIC Champs - TBD

LeftyHoges
27th February 2020, 12:38 PM
Alright, time to get serious about this shit again. I know Victoria feels like its own country these days, but if we can travel internationally by July, surely we can get in and out of Victoria in Feb 2023. Double / Triple / Quadruple / Boosted Vax will be a requirement, lets get that shit out of the way first.

So just as a discussion point on that, I'm in two minds. The full shebang as previously discussed (if the proposed clubs are amenable to it), the big one with 2 x Peninsula-Kingswood (North and South) and another premo sandbelt for the Friday like Yarra Yarra, Cranbourne GC on the Thursday or Monday and a cheap and cheerful track for the other Thursday or Monday. This'll be a costly exercise with the trip being around $1200 from whoa to go. Then peple obviously have their flights, meals, drinks, hire cars etc on top of that.

Another option is to save that for the 10th instalment as a big hoopla, and find somewhere cheaper in between, like a trip up to the Murray River (probably Echuca-Moama and the Rich River Resort). Have done a small amount of research on this and I feel like we could play 5 days on the Murray for around the $600-700 mark. That way if something goes horribly wrong and for some reason we can't get back deposits / full payments etc people haven't outlaid a metric ****tonne of cash.

Or we can look at a third option with trying to get Pen North or South for the Uncivil War Friday this year, then do the other next year, with a return to possibly the Mornington to replay StAB, The Dunes, maybe Moonah Legends, Portsea, try our hardest to get onto Sorrento, something like that.

Just a discussion point, but obviously the sooner we make our minds up the sooner people can start saving the required amounts of cash, and we can more easily make bookings.

I know some of you will say "in for whatever" (and the first one that does I'm charging them double), but please don't as it doesn't help in making a committed decision. That's MY protocol. I genuinely would like people to state what they want from those three options.

Have at it ladies and gents, and you can officially get excited again.

ALL TBD

So......

Tentative enquiries with Peninsula Kingswood have cleared us for the dates, but if we want to continue down this path IT WILL NOT be a cheap exercise.

If we wish to play North and South courses we MUST stay on the property for the Saturday night, and this is how they get you. Cheapest twin rooms (of which there are 5) are $400 p/n, 3 more rooms at $440 p/n, and then 10 rooms at $520 p/n. So depending on your room; Saturday and Sunday golf, Sunday breakfast, and Saturday nights accomm ONLY, will range from $500-$560.

I'm yet to decide on Thursday and Monday courses but tentatively looking at Cranbourne GC and Mornington GC at around $80 and $45 respectively, then the Fridays golf at Yarra Yarra at approx. $235, the whole kit and caboodle from Thursday to Monday will set you back between $900-950, and then I still need to find accomm for Thurs, Fri and Sun nights. Lets say I manage to find somewhere for around $50pn, we've tallied up $1050-1100....

Are we asking too much?

Want to get some early responses here A) for booking, and B) to give people as much time as possible to stash away the $$$....

2 bloody good courses and great facilities. We've done Moonah Legends, and I didn't think much of the track (and I believe for once most agreed with me).

And the mass reviews say the other track is stoopid. Not high on my list.
Obviously less expensive makes it more accessible but theres a trade off for quality. Its Vic Champs, wild horses and all that. Ill start saving. That's the fear. At what point do we stop being about the people... :-P
I'll follow the masses, but at some point will you return to courses played before, since there aren't many that have played every time? For the last couple of years I've wanted to "Tarantino" this thing, ie. Just get to 10 and see where we go from there. This'll be 9...

We've had some small double ups here and there (Spring Valley, Woodlands, St Andrews Beach I believe are the only ones) and we've done pretty well to avoid more, but we will hit critical mass at some point....

10th anniversary I'd like to try and get all freshies somewhere, and then we go in to double up mode.
$100 a point (on average)[emoji23]Ouch, that hurts when you put it like that.

I guess the other option we can explore is splitting Pen North and South over two years and have them as Uncivil War Friday venues?

Would obviously have to check with the club, but if that gets the support of the masses we can explore that...

Or sign up for a breakaway Gippsland champs. :)

Getting 6-10 groups onto a top 40 course on a Saturday and close to accommodation doesn't come cheap.

I'd gladly pay an extra $100 not to play the likes of Yering Meadows.

EDIT: Jesus Christ, can they correct the two errors in the Poll question also... There's no e in for, and the capital H in Which is gonna destroy my OCD...
Moved 'e' to end, so it isn't in 'for' anymore, and capitalised all 'H's in the question for consistency.

OK, It's obviously early days, but I'm hearing some ground swell for Rub 'n' Tug. I think the Murray option could be a good one for version 11, as version 10 I'm keen (like most it seems) for the Full Service.

So in theory this could possibly look something like:

Thursday - Cranbourne GC - $100ish
Friday - Yarra Yarra - $250
Saturday - St Andrews Beach - $89
Sunday - Sorrento - ???, possibly around $120. May be a pipe dream anyway as Sorrento is notoriously tough to get on.
Alternate Sunday - The Dunes - $105 (though if this were to happen I'd probably try and swap for The Dunes Saturday & St Andrews Beach Sunday)
Monday - Rosebud Country Club North - $75

Accomm at around $40 per night is usually a decent ball park figure, plus prize money, as a ball park figure we're looking at $850ish for the full shebang...

Can easily swap Cranbourne out for Rosebud on Thursday, and sub in a cheapie like Devilbend on Monday to save $50-60....

Thoughts?
