The battle lines have FINALLY been drawn, and these two titans of the golfing world are warming up for our very own version of "The Battle of the Bastards (with extra Bastards)".

A massive thank you to Courty and wbennett for assisiting with filling the sides, and also to PeteThePilot for recruiting a couple of RH members to fill the void.

Captaining the Confederate side this year will be 3PuttPete, joined by his willing and able VC, thecollective.

And returning fire for the Union will be Peter_rs, assisted or hampered by (depending on your point of view) Ferrins!

Final pairings for this ding-dong all important stoush, are:

49123

Your team captains will establish pants / short colours shortly, and more information about the greatest day in the OZgolf calendar will be posted as further details emerge.

PLAY BALL!!!

The draw has been set 11/2 7:30pm Qld time.

The union comes in as the current holders. But the confederates have stacked the side with low hcp locals.

And at this rate I will be coming to a VIC Champs un injured for the first time but also anchored for the first time.

Like an intimate dinner with Bill Cosby, things are humming along quietly then out of nowhere, BANG!

The Confederates are sending out the big guns early. Kicking things off for the men of the south are a man from the wild, cold, windswept west of Victoria and a man whose combat expertise in these conditions can not be questioned.

LeftyHoges and Jbower.

Go well boys

In reply to the invalid and an unknown +marker.

it was tempting to send in the killer, and let shazza bring down lefty but we need him to arrange next year.

So to combat the unknown we will send in the man that's on fire and spends more time on the range than his opponet

Lefty Hoges Vs what the hell... shazza

FYI you're walking to Barny if you don't win shazza

Bushy Vs ....

to aid the team is the man that needs no introduction, and is another class act

Ron Burgundy VS

3Puttpete
11th February 2019, 08:29 PM
He may have seen action in the Uncivil War but there's very little chance he remembers any of it. This lack of knowledge can continue as he takes on a man of great mystery. The only thing you know for sure is he pronounces the 8th letter of the alphabet correctly. It's Matty Aitch

Speaking of blokes who have no idea what's going on. It's dark red you pretentious fool. To teach you a lesson on the colour chart, in particular around the greens is Collis.

It’s an honour to be joined on my right hand side carrying the title of VC into this battle is a man whose name says it all. He isn’t in it for personal glory, he’s doing it for the team. He is not the individual. He is thecollective.

And now it’s time. Some say I was born to this role. I’ve heard it most of my life. Not to my face mind you, people are often reluctant to heap too much praise on a man but I hear them whispering when I walk by or when they think I’m not around.

That’s where he belongs they say. It’s his natural position. Behind a bunch of tired, sweaty men who are probably at least in some way affected by alcohol, driving as hard as he can. Well, if the cap fits...

That’s right. Look at me. I am the captain now.

Let’s pick random numbers....12 and 18.

In a normal matchplay, the 18 gets 6 shots, on index 1-6.

In the UCW, he gets them on index 13-18.

I’d never thought about it before.

PeteyD
13th February 2019, 08:13 AM
In normal matchplay the shots are allocated on matchplay index (normally) so not quite that either. It also means on the hardest holes the 12 should have an advantage due to better ability.

WBennett
13th February 2019, 08:24 AM
In normal match

Hole Index Hole Index
1 18 10 5
2 8 11 11
3 12 12 2
4 3 13 15
5 14 14 7
6 6 15 13
7 10 16 4
8 1 17 17
9 16 18 9

Courses can vary this. Last week I had to give 6 shots away in pennant - I gave them away on 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 as per the normal table, but other courses can move it around.

LeftyHoges

I’d never thought about it before.

If you go by the Australian Matchplay Index, he'd get them on 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 & 16.

And even under these conditions I'd argue that this is the way a match play should be played even if going off stroke index. You "get a shot" over another player in your group on a Saturday under these Stroke Play Indexed holes because that's exactly what your handicap deems to be fair.

You shouldn't really be getting shots on the hardest hole on the course and up...

With stableford matchplay, a 6 marker will get a shot on the 6 hardest holes, when playing a scratch golfer.
With stableford matchplay, an 18 marker will get a shot on the 6 easiest holes, when playing a 12 marker.

But with a matchplay index, the same 6 holes are given in both cases.

Bit like Goldilocks, with the porridge too hot, then too cold and finally just right.
