Everytime I access this forum or even change pages within it I get an error message saying it's unsafe and I get booted back to "safety". Looks like its because it's http not https. Occurs in Opera, Firefox and IE. Am I just the lucky one of are there others with the same issue?

This is a known issue, and has already been discussed in other threads.

As per Facebook, and the "HTTP to HTTPS (Downtime - Dec 29 2016)" thread, the security certificate expired without notification and needs to be reinstalled by the hosts, who I have been waiting on.

This site is safe. You can trust me. ;)

Tapatalk is another option for viewing the forum.

As to whether you can access the site safely, that is for you to assess. The risk is that the details that you have on this site could be taken, noting that there are no financial details used on this site. It is also worth noting that the site not having this certificate at the moment, is the same as it was just over a year ago, before Tapatalk and some browsers started making it compulsory.

I'm taking this "risk" and still logging in.
