Putting on my Lucas hat here and calling this to a close....

Last call for entrants....

Going once....

Going twice....

You have until 1pm for final entries........

(Except Thursdays and Mondays rounds, please let me know at any point if you're keen for this)
If I'm successful in swinging a couple of things I'm going to try and play on the Thursday.

I've been asked to work on Saturday so my boss can watch his horse race at Flemington so I need to find someone to replace me in a 4BBB comp I signed up for then I'll be all sweet.

Will try and let you know by this afternoon or something.

What is the format for Thursday?Team ball. We played it at Spring Valley 2 years ago.

Also single Stableford as usual.

Each group gets a special ball, somebody has to use it on every hole. Your score with the ball counts for the comp. Lose it (Monsta! :) ) and you're done for the day.

I really enjoyed it last day, even though I was shitting myself every time I had the ball.

Welcome Pickles aboard for our Thursday round also!!! He'll join Lucas, KJ and RS in the final group to make 6 groups of 4.

We also have one of Slugs mates joining us on Friday, as Barwon Heads weren't keen on a group of 5. Welcome along Brett!

Hopefully he can find another so they can play in a 3 and we can play our normal format (or maybe Toxic can join?).

Staying at Portarlington, and doing touristy stuff tomorrow. May see you at Curlewis, to list the Confederate weaknesses. (Note to self. Buy a bigger notepad).

NWAGs round at Portsea was awful. I was in the NAGA battle, and after having 15ish points around the front, I was never in any sort of danger. His complete loss of game was a car crash - and it all started after he hit a good drive on Portseas 10th (our first), then his decent approach rolled off the green into a 15 foot deep trap and the day was cooked

Anyway, on the road in 15 minutes. See you boys later today

They allow the homeless to play golf.

Jokes aside, Curlewis is actually a forward thinking club. They have set out to differentiate themselves from the competition down the road at Barwon Heads by being less snooty and more accessible and building the more 'fun' options into their golf offering. They have added a lot of new members in recent years so it seems to be working.

First up congrats again to Nemo , I wouldn't have hit 43 playing from the kiddies tees in that wind. Also congrats to anyone else who picked up any place or prize throughout the weekend.

Big thanks to Nick for all the effort put in to planning and making it happen. Also thanks to anyone that organised food / side bets/ course guides/ shirts and anything else I've missed.

Golfing wise was a bit of a mixed bag , played some of the best golf I've played for months but also hit some shockers, I can't even remember the last time that I failed to reach the ladies tee let alone twice in 2 days.
Was also good to meet some new faces , also apolgies if any of my helicoptering put any of my playing partners off.

First time golfing in Vic and it does seem to leave Sydney for dead. Already looking forward to next year..

Great Weekend! Big thanks to Left, WBennet, 3pp, Courty, Larry, Monsta and any other organising people. After missing last year I was very keen for this weekend and it did not disappoint.

Thursday: The vista of Curlewis from the practice green over the 18th was special. I liked the 18th hole. The course was great to play. Accommodation proved to be great for us. Although it could have had 1 more shower ;) Evening was great and much sledging for the match ups in the Uncivil War.

Friday: Barwon heads is a pretty special course. 1-6 are great, looping around and through a big bowl in the dunes. We first saw this from the coast road which loops around the top. Great course that you could happily play day in day out. Was made special as I teamed up with Bushy to crush Feelzy and Monsta in the uncivil war! Calcutta evening was great fun, with Peppas getting the bargain of the champs picking Ron Burgandy for Naga for $15.

Saturday: 13th Beach - Beach. I was looking forward to finally playing a dogturd to beat Brookwater 10 (the 6th). Alas it failed to live up to the hyped horribleness despite being a bit odd. I liked the 5th, lots options off the tee. I enjoyed the course. Saturday's auction raised a good amount for charity. Many thanks to Lucasto and his efforts, and to everyone who donated items and purchased items. It is a great cause that is closer to everyone than you may realise. Also thanks to Slug for an awesome dinner, super job mate!

Sunday: 13th Beach - Gold Coast ... er Creek. Reminding me somewhat of a Gold Coast Resort course, the Creek course was good without being remarkable. There was a great par 4 on the front (8). And then some weak holes on the back, including ones with trees in fairways, and a god awful par 3 with the green complex modelled on a cross between Serena Williams and Kim Kardashian. The finishing holes were good though, particularly playing into the wind. Finally played some Golf at one of these and put a good round together, although it was overshadowed by Nemo's incredible 43. Nagaritas at the Mex restaurant rounded out the weekend nicely.

Monday: Queenscliff - after driving out the single lane causeway to the island on an overcast windy day we were treated to a real gem of a course. My favourite hole of the weekend was the par 4 13th. Jono driving the first was a highlight. A course run by volunteers means conditioning can suffer, particularly with the large numbers of very large grey kangaroos around, but you can overlook the damage they do for a course that's a lot of fun to play. I would happily play there again. Also helped that I played well and finally got my hand on some of Monsta's wood!

It was great to see new faces, and to catch up with some I haven't seen for a few years.

Thanks to everyone I played with - wBenno, Chris, Adam, Bushy, Monsta, Feelzy, Grumpy, Slug, Nemo, Bluu, ToddtheStudMuffinTrainchaser, Lucasto, Jono and Courty.

And thanks to everyone for making this such a great weekend. Roll on 2019!!

I’ll make this short and sweet. Lefty, Courty, Larry and all the rest of the helpers thank you for one of the best weeks of golf and shenanigans I’ve had in a long time.

To finally get the chance to play a Vic Champs was certainly an honour and my experience far outweighed any expectations I had.

I could single all of you out for one reason or another but you’re all awesome people.

I’m quietly counting down til next year.... if I’m invited... and allowed.

Top stuff Bushy. I think you've easily done enough to secure an invite for next year on the back of that stellar first-up effort.

I'll put myself down for a round with Bushy next year. Of golf, that is. Don't think I'd come close to surviving a round of beers.

Well I've finally had 5 minutes to sit down and digress.....

Well what can I say, its the most looked forward to boys weekend away on my callender!

Friday i arrived at Avalon to be picked up in the luxurious NAGA minibus by Oldracer, travelled in style....
We stopped for a coffee and then went to BHGC for a pre round Peroni.
I was chipped by the Club Secretary for having jeans and a t-shirt on as i was waiting for the team shirts to arrive, but he let me drink my beer on the balcony anyway!

BHGC is majestic, thoroughly enjoyable.
Thanks to Ferret, Hardboiled and Pistol Pete for the round.
I halved my match with Hardboiled which was fitting as we both had some quality holes, and some total rubbish....
Im still undefeated in Uncivil War!

Friday nights shennanigans where hilarious to say the least!
I lost track how many times Bushy upped his own bids in the Calcutta, funny shit!

Sat round one at the Beach course was nice.
I really enjoyed the course and conditioning.
Thanks to Slug, PeteyD and Grumpy for the round.
Slug and I honestly had prob 8 putts between us that burned the hole without dropping so a 35 wasn't too dissapointing!

Saturday night was its usual calamity of craziness.
Plenty of booze and funny stories to be told....
Thanks to Slug for organising and cooking the BBQ, cracking effort.
Haven't seen that much smoke in a room since my Uni days....

Sundays round was blowing hard.
Like PeteyD said, its more a resort style layout....but still enjoyable.
I started with a shitty nervous double, but steadied the ship to turn 1 up.
Another double at 10 after 2 good shots and i thought thats about it, but i somehow just played conservative golf and made a few putts.
I wasn't scoring, 3pp had my card so i didn't really know where i was at but Bushy had gamecock on and was telling me i was 6 in front a few times, i didn't believe him!
Anyway thats how it went, some steady golf and a 43 out of nowhere.
I can honestly say without 3PP, Hack and Bushy in my group i wouldn't have played that well.
I had the most fun on a golf course ever, truly!
I haven't laughed so hard in years, i think you could hear our group all over the course?
Arms where flapping and the call of Kakaaa was out on most holes!
I think my wednesdays at The Doon when its blowing hard gave me a little advantage, well it helped...

I know Lefty gets a lot of credit as he should, but theres always other guys in the background helping out.
Courty's spreadsheets, Larry with stuff, Slug with the food, Ferret cooking us breakfast, Monsta for his outstanding trophies, which I'm slowly collecting, Ron Burgundy for shuttling me around etc....

For those debutants i hope you had a great time, and see why this is the best weekend on Ozgolf.
Hope you tell your mates to join and continue supporting in years to come.
I haven't missed one since the 2nd event, and don't plan on doing so.

Great catching up with old faces, the social side far outweighs the golf played.

So thanks to all, i really enjoyed it and will be back better than ever next year to try defend the title!

Ok my turn. Big thank you to Lefty, Courty, LarryLong and anyone else who helped organised this event. I know alot of effort goes into these things and once again you guys did a great job!!

Thank you for Dotty for couriering my clubs and myself from and to the airport. Thank you sluggo being my driver all weekend, the for hospitality and cooking up a ripper BBQ on Saturday night.

Thank you to my playing partners: PerryGroves (TB) X 2, the man from the Northern Beaches who is deadly with Texas Wedge in hand.

Chappy, you certainly scared me early on with ur strong play and U aren't bad with the Texas Wedge either. Lucky for me u ran out of legs (probably cos they are just sticks 🤣) and I was able sneak pass u in the end.

PeteRS fellow brother in arms the Uncivil War and calves bro and mega hybrid hitter!!!

Ron Burgundy, you game is coming along nicely mate, u just need to keep improving your hoeing. [emoji16]

Courty, u finished String after a slow start. I wish I could manage my game around a course like u did.

Gammon, nice putting bro, just make sure u keep griping it properly. [emoji16]

Feelzy (Boral/Holden), loft is your friend bro [emoji16]

PDiddy nice bunting mate. A couple of extra putts and u could have almost challenged Nemo do the win..

It was great weekend catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. This weekend, like all the Ozgolf Champs is about the friendships and once again it didn't disappoint.

Congrats to Nemo for win and all the other winners. Well done to Shazza on leading the good guys to the win!!

For newbies or who have never been and is considering going to this or other Ozgolf champs, do it, it will be the best golf related weekend you will have!!!

Before reality sets in and I head back to work tomorrow...

I played tremendously ordinary golf most of the time. I knew (not just because Senor Ladbrokes revealed it to me) the wind was going to screw with my head, and it did.

But I don't care at the end of it all. I had 8 fantastic days of enjoying new courses, spending time with a bunch of lunatics legends, having great feeds, and being reminded that golf isn't a game of perfect.

As the Champ said, the social stuff outweighs the golf.

Thanks to everyone who did anything that made the Champs run as it did...whether it be the hard work of booking the venues, cooking up food, donating stuff for the auction, nothing should go unnoticed.

Thanks to Jono for making the circuit around Port Phillip Bay less boring, and joining me in taking in Flinders and The Dunes. It was great to catch up after a few years.

To the other playing partners through the week (Lucas, Pickles, Pete_rs Benno, Jono, Johnno, LarryLong, Bruce, Shaz, Slug, Ferrins), thanks for putting up with my mediocrity.

Bring on 2019!!

Been back at work 3 days now, I think I am finally getting my neurons to fire.

Lefty as always, outstanding. This is your baby, and I reckon this was the best yet.

Thanks to the following for doing stuff -

Courty for organising the shirts, and Marto for providing them. They looked great this year. Thanks to 3PP and the RS's for bringing them down and allowing another $50 to go to the charity tin.
Larry for organising, collecting and returning the linen - thanks also for the meal bookings. Mad Mex is the best.
Ferret for cooking breakfasts - you took the tongs, told me you had it under control and did a magnificent job
Sluggos bbq was brilliant. You can cook at my place any time.
Petey D, Ferrey, JonO, Feelzy, Monsta, KJ and anyone I missed - you guys cleaning up did a fantastic job
Lucas for the auctioneering, Courty for the spreadsheet wizardry

As you can see, that's half the group that chipped in to make it happen. Its the magic of this weekend.
I still don't know how the bins got emptied on the Sunday, but it was a blessing.

Thanks to my playing partners, my carbuddies and my roomies. 4 Champs in a Row as roomie, I'll take best offer for 2019.

Being back at work and reality is hard. And sad.

This is well overdue, sorry, have been flat out!!!

Wow.

Well, what can you say about that champs. One of the best we've had, IMHO.

Another Victorian Champs has been successfully run and won. Just 350ish depressing days until it all happens again.

My congratulations again go to our newly crowned Champion, Captain Nemo, you truly opened up your legs (you dirty little whore!) and showed us your class on the Sunday with 43 fantastic points around a tough and demanding layout. 24 points on that back 9 when it seemed every hole played across or into the stiff wind was an exceptional effort. Congratulations on 3 solid scores, and another successful jaunt down South, you always seem to take a trophy home (must be all that practice!), speaks highly of your consistency

Well done also to Peter_rs for your second placing, a first and a second at VIC Champs goes well on your golfing resume fella! And to PeteyD for a come from nowhere podium finish. Great to have you back in VIC, and well and truly recovered it seems!!!

Congratulations to The Union on levelling the scores to 3-3, and personal congrats to Shazza_rs as the first ever female winning captain. Clearly scared those boys of yours into submission under threat of verbal tirade, or something. Well done to all on a fantastically close contest, my apologies for forgetting the players for the all-important mystery fireball (typical the only year its needed and we don't have it!), but by the sounds of Slugs choice we wouldn't have won the fireball anyway. I'll leave it up to you high-scoring-on-the-day Unionists to think about which one of you he considers to be truly spudworthy.

OK, onto my thank you's.

Courty - The man with the sheets. Does a stack more for these champs than anyone realises (myself included). We all know the sheets, we all love the sheets. Tracking GolfLinks, ferrying heavy objects to and from the car, and most importantly driving my still drunk arse to..... Was it every venue this year Courty? Thank you buddy, when I need a hand with something you're always there.

wbennett - If there was only one bloke you could pick to take with you on a golf trip, who else could you possibly choose? Loves a beer, loves a golf, loves a chat, and loves what no-one would call a bargain but buys it anyway. I do very much have to thank you for organising the shirts for the Uncivil War from Marto (and please, if we can, thank Marto too if you get a chance. He makes no money from these shirts), but the higher thanks have to just go generally towards your enthusiasm for this weekend. Like a kid in a candy store, he wants one of EVERYTHING!

Monsta - Those trophies? Master craftsman!!!! Thank you so very much Kev, you supply the greatest trophies known to man (I should know, I've got 3 Monday ones (can you make me one for year one retrospectively?) taking pride of place at home! Was REALLY nice to take home a Thursday one this year, just have to actually, you know, nail one of those important ones on Friday, Saturday or Sunday!) and it's a highlight for me personally each year to pull them out of the bag / box to see what you've done each time. This years smelt extremely delicious....

Also, for your tireless work with the camera, I truly appreciate it. Every year I say to myself "I'm taking more photos this year", and I reckon I maybe hit a dozen this year, so for you to take these happy snaps so that we can relive the memories means so much to all of us.

Frank the Tank - Well done on fleecing many, MANY spuds with a birdie comp that they'll never win. What's that saying about Ice to Eskimos? P.S. That jerky was oustanding, very glad I didn't try the "Ring Sting" though!

Lucasto23 - Auctioneer extraordinaire. We greatly appreciate the voice that you donate each year to ridicule us. At least half the $$$ raised form this weekend are directly attributed to you. Much love.

Massive thanks also to PeteyD for taking over and wrangling the auction on Saturday night. That was greatly appreciated mate, and you did a reat job of pushing through a lot of items.

LarryLong - Stepped it up in his home town, made a late run for MVP coming up with the goods again and again as the death knell loomed. Projector "borrowed", Linen organised (a bigger job than some would think, I'd imagine), took delivery of the stubby holders, organised the Monday at one of the best little tracks I've ever played, with some delicious snags to tide us over until plane / car departures. I'll definitely be making the trek back to Queenscliff at some stage.

Slug - Dear God, that barbecue. What's your hourly rate???? Some of the best steaks and snags I've ever had, so thank you very much to you and of course to your butcher mate. He does great meat.

Ferrins - Whiz with a racquet, the tongue, other bodily parts AND a pair of tongs. There were a lot of gents very grateful for your cooking on those early morns, me included. Cheers to you!

3PuttPete - Took away quite a bit of hassle organising the very good price for prize balls and picking them up. And obviosuly gave a nice little hand shandy under the counter for the $400 in additional vouchers. Thanks Pete, you're a gent, except for the times when you weren't living up to your username, you dirty liar!

Bit of a personal one here, but thank you to Bushy for your contacts on getting the 4 of us onto Nash old pre-champs. And to Benno_r for driving so that I could sit in the back and cry all the way home.

Thank you to the "spot-fillers" for Thursday and Friday, these things work a hell of a lot better when we can play in the formats that we set out, and you can't do so without even numbers etc. Was great to have hardboiled, Chappy and JoeS back for an appeareance, and massive thanks to Pistol Pete and B Angove for stepping up to heed our call when numbers we're looking awry. Thaks again to Slug for organising these guys.

Everyone - You all deserve my biggest thanks. For attending, taking everything in great spirit, your generosity when it comes to Auctions / Calcuttas / Stubby Holders / "Voluntary contributions", and most importantly the laughs that you all provide. I look back on every night there and think "that was one of the funniest things I've ever been involved with". I know that this weekend is not cheap, part of the consequence for having the best courses in the country I guess, so for everyone to do what they have done over the 5 days is an outstanding effort. Special thanks to all those who donated items into the auction too, it's a surprisingly good money spinner. It might not seem like items are selling for much, but it all adds up very quickly.

Debutants - Thank you and well done to these guys, we had a dozen weekend debutants this year, and the VB loving Pickles on Thursday and Friday. It takes a fair amount of courage to throw money to some stranger on the internet with the prospect of playing golf with 30+ strangers you've never met before, so for taking the plunge we say thank you and we sincerely hope to see you back next year.

Regulars - You guys and lady know how I feel. We've had quite a few make all 6 installments of the VIC Champs and a very large number have done 4 or 5, so for continuing to support this event I thank you. Imagine if we could actually get some bloody Victorians to play!!!!

To all the guys that pitched in and cleaned for an hour or two on Sunday afternoon so that I can hopefully get my security deposit back (reminds me, must chase that up!), thank you.

Mrs Lefty - She cops an enormous load from me (phrasing!) in the lead-up to this, when I forget everything with 3 days to go. She did the prize envelopes and the FABULOUS NAGA belt, as well as a multitude of other little things, as well as forwarding on the stubby holders when they hit my doorstep 45 minutes after I left on Tuesday morning, so thanks hun! But don't worry everyone, I showed her the groups appreciation Monday night! Yet to attempt Toddy's trick, but she sounds keen. Probably says more about me than I should admit.

To anyone else who has done things that I've forgotten, I can guarantee you that I appreciated them greatly at the time, and I apologise that I haven't thanked you publicly here.

Much, much, MUCH LOVE,

Lefty.

P.S. As always, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated and taken on board, and hopefully used to make the 2019 VIC Champs an even bigger success.

The lightest pencil has been used to make tentative dates of 21st - 25th Feb for next year, so keep an eye out for further announcements. Peace!
