So a few weeks ago I went and got a fitting.Probably should be spending my time and money on learning to putt, but I figure this is just about the same. Some interesting things came out of that experiance.Firstly I am not suited to a regular flex shaft(and yet I still hit it ok),their has been some excellent product development by mizuno, and their clubs just ooze sexy.
So all went well on the day and my combo I chose was
Gold Pride Align grips
Project x 120g 6.0 stiff
4 fli hi mmc
5-p mp18 mmc
S18 51/08
Hit them at the range last week but I wasn't swinging to well.Straight away though I noticed my dispersion was lower and length slightly longer(probably to do with loft angle).Ball flight looked a bit neater, but all of a sudden I had a different shape to my shots.

Anyway today I decided that I had worked hard enough between 8 and 10 so gave myself the day off.Thought what a better way to spend it than take the clubs to the course.Waterford Valley is only 10 minutes from home and not a bad track, and I get discount for RACV as well.
Drove the middle into 9 iron distance, plopped it 10 feet left and thought this was ok.4 fli hi on 2 into a strong breeze short left and 2 putts, good start. And that was pretty much the way the day went, mostly anyway.I haven't done gapping in the irons yet,so a couple of wrong choices but nothing to bad.

So what do I think.Ball flight is awesome,I am no longer launching everything into the clouds,I felt I had good control when hitting into the wind, which is something I struggled with from my mp60's.They would balloon and take off.The align grips are something new to me,but I can see me getting them again when they wear out. When you look down on the top line it just screams to be hit.The stiff shaft I feel I can really get into the shot and not have to hold back like on the regs. And I guess the proof comes when standing over a 150m par 3 16th straight into with 6 iron in hand and just hitting with the new baby fade to 4 feet pin hi for the birdie.
Must admit I score well around Waterford ,today was no exception with 76 off the stick and using the 4 fli hi off the tee on most par 4's.
And some club porn

Mizuno truly do make fantastic clubs - the forged feel you get out of the middle is second to none

the MP 18's are short listed as my next set - but will be the split cavity instead of the MMC

Not that I have a choice in the matter - left handed players get what they are given when it comes to clubs

how does the Fli Hi feel compare to the MMC?

Pretty close to the same. Not quite as ‘solid’.

I had my Mizuno fitting last night. The DNA was pretty accurate, fitting me into PX6.5 hard stepped and CTaper 130X. Although I had better performance with PX6.0 and hard stepped S300.

The MB and MMC are more similar than I previously thought at least to my eyes. Feel is the same, slightly firmer ‘note’ but performance is a fair bit better on equal strikes for the MMC.

FliHi was the surprise package. Awesome iron and I could easily play this down to 6i. 2,3 and 4 were phenomenal.

Big question for me now is the combo I’m going to get. Have a few options so will see, I’m going to demo them again in the week.

How did the s18 wedges go mate?

I didn’t like them personally. Felt too harsh to me compared to MP T5’s I have. T7 is very similar to my T5 as you’d expect.

Nice pick up Joe. Been considering some new MP18's as well. Might combo the MB and SC. Was suprised how big the SC was when I saw it a couple of days ago but would be good in the longer irons.

Just a question though. Don't the MMC's and the Fli hi's have stronger lofts than the SC's and MB's? Not sure the Fli hi's would match in for spin and flight with the loft and launch differences.

I went a bit far. I gathered this for my own personal decision as I was leaning towards MB’s. I collected all the data from about 20 odd video reviews from 6 people. Each row is the same person hitting all three clubs directly from their average numbers on either Trackman or GCQuad. You’ll notice the spin and carry numbers are negligible give the 2* loft difference in the 6 and 7 iron. Purple is a 7i, yellow is a 4i.

How did the s18 wedges go mate?S18 in 51-08.I feel like I could use a bit more bounce, feels like the head slides under the ball a bit.Love the flight,I tend to stop it on one or two hops as well,so spin control seems pretty easy

Not sure the Fli hi's would match in for spin and flight with the loft and launch differences. You are correct, but the fli hi I think is aimed more to the handicap player that doesn't quite have the same feel for a long iron as say a 6 iron.I am an 11 handicap, suits me fine.I think anyone who was a low single figure handicapper wiuld stay with a matched set,or even maybe swap in the SC if they took the cavity back.I guess this is mizunos answer to the hybrid for someone that likes to play the long iron, but needs little help.I still have the 3 hybrid 915hd in the bag,3 iron needs more than I can give
