There are a few of us attending who don't mind a bit of a jog, or are on a current fitness kick. As I usually do when I travel, I will be attending the local parkrun in Cairns. This will be the 27th location that I have ran at, unless I go somewhere else before then, and it will probably be my 97th parkrun event overall.

This parkrun will be even closer to our accommodation than the start line is for Albert Lake parkrun for the Vic Champs. In fact, our accommodation is only 1.2k from the start line, so an easy walk or warmup jog. It is a 7am start, so we should easily be able to fit this in before our Saturday round, assuming that we wouldn't be leaving for Palmer Sea Reef, which is an hour away, until 9:30a or so for a 11:15a tee off. That's plenty of time for a run and big breakfast.

You don't have to run the five kilometres, and it is for all standards; you can even walk. If you are looking for a first place, you'll probably need to beat Philip Bradshaw, who clocked a 15:44 on the weekend just gone. The last person in took 50:30.

It's free, but it is best if you register for parkrun and bring your barcode.

I'm sure plenty of us will be a bit dusty in the morning, but that has never stopped me before. So, who else will be joining me?

I'll be lining up. Half an hour for the 5km will be a victory,

What happened to the 24 minute goal? I'll reassess that after Sat. I've been on a few other runs/jogs over the past week or 2, but not with any particular time goal in mind. That said, I'm knocking off work early today so will head out when I get home.

No parkrun this morning due to some lingering smoke from hazard reduction in the lower Blue Mountains, but that cleared up by lunchtime so I went out for a couple of somewhat undulating 5kms, punctuated by a 5 minute rest break. It was about 28 mins for both. Not great, but at least it indicates that 30 mins would be more a disappointment than a victory.

28mins is better than most of the population. Much better than I could do.
