A new month, but the same old stuff for me on the course today.

32 points, with three 3-putt double bogeys destroying any chance of a good score. Nothing horrible (apart from the doubles) but nothing great either.

The course is starting to get firm and fast, so it actually matters where you leave the ball for your recovery shots. I left myself in some difficult spots, and then failed the test miserably.

1st round of CoC today. I shot 83/76, but made it a lot more difficult than it needed to be.
Some wayward drives left me dead under/ behind trees on numerous occasions. I turned at +9, but went on to shoot +2 on the back thanks to an chip-in eagle on 13 and a birdie on 16.
Not too disappointed with the final score given the shit that I served up for most of it.

After a double on the first came back and played the front 9 in +3. Continued solid through until my second shot on 14. Hit a shank into the creek and somehow managed a pretty good bogey, then bogey 15 and 16 then missed a short birdie on 17 and mid length birdie on 18. ☹️

Overall it was a fun day, looking forward to cleaning it up tomorrow and having another crack. So far lowest gross is 76 so not completely out of it.

Played 23 handicap... With 39 points with 2 holes wiped. Figuring out the driver and able to hit all but two fairway does help a lot (one is the long drive hole too)

Only let down today was my putting... Missed a few easy 3 foot putt doesn't help.

Today, in the Mega Pro Comp off the white tees at Ballina, I had 42 points, off an already reduced handicap of 6. Even par off the stick.

This was a personal course record for me at Ballina, an equal second best round ever (I've broken par once) and I think it was my best round for 14 years. And I won the overall comp, for a double 1st place prize.

Obviously, everything was working for me today. I made some miracle recovery pars from the trees early, then a chip-in birdie, and from the 5th onwards just played really well.

For once, I can't say I left many out there.

The only downside I can think of is that my handicap will take another beating. There goes any chance of me competing for the prizes at the Qld Champs.

Loving the Mizuno Mp60... Seems to go exactly where I aim without fear of pulling the shots. 4 iron was easier to hit than my Apex which was surprising.

On paper (or on an electronic screen) my score of 84 nett 78 on today's midweek medal looks pretty bad. And on 4 holes it was, with three ugly doubles from close to the green and a triple. But the rest of the round was quite good, and it was mainly a misbehaving putter that caused the scoring problems.

The triple was caused by a two shot penalty for hitting the wrong ball. It is a very long time since I have done that, and it was nobody's fault but mine. A ball of the same brand and a similar marking was on the edge of the fairway, while my ball, which actually had a red marking, not a black one, was hiding in the rough. I didn't check closely. Hopefully it will be a long time until I transgress again.

Foursomes championships out here in Leinster on the weekend just gone. Was hitting the ball alright, but a new, lighter putter meant I left a lot of putts short. Paired up with the club captain and we won the day easily. Was just a pity only four people turned up this year so we only had one group to compete against and they had a shocker. Had 5 or 6 groups tee off in the same event last year so only 2 this year was a real letdown.

Haha yeah, 43 won the day and second had 41 and beat me via a count back. The guy who won had a blinder, playing 7 shots better than any previous round he has played. My handicap was re-activated from the last time I played at a club in 2010 and in the last 6 months since I started playing again I am playing much better than I was back then so the handicap should settle after a couple more rounds.

Nice scoring on the weekend for you too. I can't wait to have a hit around Queenscliff now I am in the area.

Last official comp round before the Qld Champs, so the pressure was on to play well and show some form.

It was a bit of a yes and no round of 34 points. After playing a very poor second hole I was two down, and remained either 2 or 3 down the rest of the round. Strangely, my 3 wood wasn't working and got me into trouble, when it is normally one of my more trusted clubs, but my irons were good when I got close enough to use them.

My putter worked quite well, which it will need to do on unfamiliar courses next week.
