View Full Version : Better to bend a 54 or a 56 to 55?

Have a 52 and 58 ping glide, and want something to bridge the gap.

I understand if I go the 54 I will end up with 1 more degree effective bounce, and the opposite with a 56.

Has anyone used the glide range in 54/56 and can give some advice on which bounce profile to look for?

Was considering the WS (high bounce) 56 or maybe even another ES grind (love it on the 58 - very versatile)

Cheers

My current setup is PING: IE1 PW @ 45, then Glide 50 SS, 56 SS @ 55, & 60 ES.

I'm happy with my 56 SS @ 55, works well.

As for the sole, I dunno if I'd want two Eye Soles in my setup. I think it makes a super sand club, and on full shots it's much the same as any other wedge... but pitching, especially from tight lies, and especially at the loft you're considering, I'd rather the SS for shots like this.

Also, kinda wondering if 3° per wedge will provide adequate separation on full shots?

Another thing to consider, strengthening/weakening the loft will slightly alter the offset... won't be much, but worth reading up on.

My preference is neither.

I'd just open the 52* up and hit it softer/higher. (I have a Glide 60WS and 52SS on standby for my next wedges. I practice that around the greens, and they are a very forgiving wedge.) Use your spare slot in the bag for a specialty sand-only wedge, which is probably your 20yo Titleist DCI SW in the garage.

If it was a poll, I'd click the '54* and add 1*' button, as I play on softer courses, where extra bounce is better than too little.

i am sure that if you have the shop check you will fined a 54 or a 56 that is actual 55* so no bending will be required

I ended up with the 52/58 by chance.

I also have a 50 matching full set gap wedge that I hit 115-120ish. It's a freak of a club.

The 52 will go approx 100, the 58 likely 70(ish) my old 56 DCI went 85.

I don't carry a 4 iron, as the RSI2 s are a little stronger, so have the bag space for PW(45) GW (50) 52/55/58

Just to thread jack, I have TM Milled Grind in 52/58 but would like 50/54/58.

Should I buy a 50 then bend the 52 to 54 or should I buy a 54 and bend the 52 to 50?

Go with option one Bitter as the extra bounce created in the 54 will be handy in the sand ;) I have this set up in my current setup

Agreed. Bending the 52 to 50 will also give it a funky (read ugly) offset look to it.

Sell the 52 and buy a 50 and 54. 😁
