View Full Version : Remove the 'target' from the chatroom link...

'Ello,

I think it would be handy to have the chatroom open up in the same browser window, which can be done by removing the 'target' property from the chatroom link. The result will be that forum members will be able to open the chatroom in the same window by left-clicking, or opening it in a new window by right-clicking and selecting 'Open in new window'.

This:

<a target="_OZgolfChat" href="http://www.ozgolf.net/forums/chat/flashchat.php"><b>Chat</b></a>

Becomes this:

<a href="http://www.ozgolf.net/forums/chat/flashchat.php"><b>Chat</b></a>

Put it to the members. I intentionally put the 'target' code in, so it would open in a new window.
I thought that this was what was wanted by most.

Okay, try to follow along. Step one seems to be the problem area:

1. Right-click on the link.
2. Left-click on 'Open in a new window'.

Why take two steps to something, when you can do it in one?

Ducky

That's exactly why I want it changed, because I'm lazy!

thats a contradiction..

right clicking then open new window is one extra step..

left click on chat link is one step to getting a new window up?

It's not a contradiction, I use Mozilla and have to right-click and open the window in a new tab, as I don't get the option to open it in the same tab. Unless of course, I copy and paste the URL (which would be most inconvenient). It's not very accessible, that's all. If I was an Internet Explorer user (luckily, I'm not), I would have no option of opening the chat window in the same window, because it is enforced in a new window. Unless, once again, I copy and paste the URL.

Right click, Copy Shortcut. Right click in address bar, Paste. Not too hard.

You're missing the point, but I am over it.

Why not bookmark it and add it to your address bar?

That's what I did.

program the centre button to open hyperlink in new tab

People, people. I have it set up fine to open in a new tab. The problem is if I want it to open in the same window. There is no option to do so, which was the purpose for the thread.

but why would you want to open it in the same window???...if you open the chat in the same window..umm you lose ozgolf.net...

why would you want to do that since you would have to log out of the chat to once again look at the forum??
