Hi Gents,

Which driving irons are you blokes using to some degree of success these days? I've previously owned a 712U and T-MB...might be looking to pick up another driving iron now. The Srixon Z U65 looks pretty rad...or maybe a Mizuno Fli-Hi. Thanks in advance, FJ.

I've been a fan of the adams DHY models. Great off the tee but not as good off the deck.

Heard good things about the Srixon ones.

I'm hitting a Cleveland MT 3 iron (19) degree and couldn't be happier. Feel of an iron and goes like a hybrid. And can't hit off deck well.

I think the shaft is the key with most iron like hybrids.

A good long "regular" 3 iron like the Cleveland MT (19*) Matty is using, or the 588 TT (19*)model are very good and super easy to hit and versatile. The best true long iron I have used so far is a Taylormade Speedblade (3i - 17 ), (4i - 20*). Again as Matty says, it is all about the shaft as well. The stock shafts in the above can launch really high, but I find I can also hit them low when needed. Higher swing speeds might needs something a bit lower launching.

The Golf Factory was selling the Cleverland's really cheap, ditto GCO.

I have a zu45 with Oban revenge in it and a dhy with steelfiber
Both are super easy to hit and not high launching at all for me
I struggle a bit off the deck with the srixon but not off the tee
The dhy is easy from most lies I've found so far

Thanks boys. I'm looking at a Cobra King Utility from one of the good lads of OzGolf. Sound like a solid option...

The Cobra is good but no better than a TM UDI.

I have tried a few. In all my sets I have a DI as the 4i, and I also have had some 2i versions as well, an rate them as follows:
Worst:
X utility
...
...
cb pro h
u45
Honma TW-u
MP Fli Hi
BEST

So in summary - on a budget - MP Fli Hi, no expense spared - Honma TW-u.

I also try and get driving irons to match my sets , srixon titleist mizuno , but the one I come back to is an old 18* Taylormade rac UT , just hits low bullets between 195- 210 metres

LOFT would be the biggest issue, why make the game harder than you have to? :)

I use a 24* Apex UT with stock KBS Tour V as my 4 iron and it's excellent.

A mate is getting great results from the Cobra Utility Iron with the Kuro Kage shaft.

I use a ping rapture and absolutely love it - the best thing about it is the shaft which feels alot more solid than other DI's I have tried

The new crossover gets good reviews although I am not a fan of the head shape and they have gone with a more slinky shaft - personally I think the older rapture model is better

The Mizuno Hi Fli is also a very good DI and reasonably priced

Although I'm using hybrids ATM, I still think the U45's are top of the pile for me. I'm sure the U65 is good too.

I've been trying to track down an 18* RSi UDI (2 iron) from everywhere but can't find.
I can't for the life of me hit a fairway wood or hybrid. Recently picked up a RSi 1 3 iron (20* loft) and been hitting it really good.

My gamer at the moment is a Fourteen hi-660 with a SPB.

Beautiful ball flight and is simple to hit.

+1 on the rapture driving Iron. I had good results with it and the stock stiff ping rapture shaft. Low bullets that run all day. Have recently put it in the back up bag due to bagging a 17* hybrid that is easier to flight high and low when needed.

Thanks for all the input gents. Looking at a 20* Srixon Z U45 with the blue Miyazaki shaft... . Sounds like the force is strong in that one...

Picked up a 20* Srixon Z U45 with the stock blue Miyazaki 70 S shaft for a steal from Balmain Golf yesterday. Took it for a quick spin this morning at Royal Liverpool GC and it goes like the clappers...looks sexy as hell too.
First time I've swung an iron with a graphite shaft in it...feels a bit different and think it'll take a little getting used to. But loved the results I was seeing this morning; feel off the face of the U45 is buttery smooth.
Dropping the 18* 915H from the bag this weekend to fit the U45 in. Gapping at the top of my bag now is driver (10.5*), SLDR Mini (12*), 20* U45, then 4-iron and so on so forth. That gapping may appear a bit funky on paper, but think it works for me.

Yep, a fixture in my bag.
Far easier to hit than any Hybrid I have ever tried, and longer!

Took out of 3 hybrid yesterday and put in my Apex CF16 3 iron. wow... off the tee in a strong wind day was abosolutely great for me... low and penetrating going straight to where i was aiming; hit it off the tee in 6 holes, and only 1 was a bit of a cut/shank on a long Par 3; even off fairway seems to work really well as my second shot for par 5. it reminds me of why i loved hitting irons when I was playing as a kid.

So, now I am looking at getting rid of my 2 Hybrid.... what is a good equivalent for the Apex #3? looking at a Mizuno MPh4 2 iron at the moment....
