After a brief club fitting session last night with my teaching professional, it turns out that I require (based on his approximation) my irons to be bent 2° upwright and an inch extension on the shaft lengths.
....
I want to get fitted for lie angle, shaft length, swing weight, and shaft flex (as I am suspecting that stiff is not sufficient for my woods).

How tall are you Ducky? I was surprised to have been recommended +3/4 inch, but then I demoed some +1 inch irons and they just felt "right".

I'm interested to hear what Advantage recommend for you. I'm curious to see what impact the extra length has on swingweight and flex. I've read that swingweight goes up and flex gets softer as you go longer in shaft length. I wonder what suggestions they can make to counteract these two things....

Good luck!

Ducky,

Why don't you go an see Gary at Balgowlah? Just gotta drive over the 2 bridges (Harbour bridge and Spitt bridge) ... ;)

http://www.customgolfservices.com.au/

While he doesn't have all the high tech equipment, he does have a swing analyser and years of experience as a clubmaker. He used to work at Advantage with the previous owner.

Give him a call and see what he can offer you at what price.

Good luck.

I went to Advantage's previous owner and he gave me the figures after the session.
Was really good all the figures for everything.

I tell you, Red Bull and sleep deprivation is not a good combination. Gary must have been sick of me 'yammering' on by the end of our telephone conversation. Anyway, he was really helpful and is confident he can arrange a fitting session for me on Saturday morning.

:)

Don't worry ... he puts up with me so you're pretty safe.

It's only $30.00 if you want the fitting information. If you want the clubs to be modified, you will pay depending on what you want. He only ended up charging me $20.00 per club to adjust lie angles, add extensions, and add new grips. I don't see where he can be making a profit at these prices!

Some clubmakers would charge $20 per club just to put new grips on ... I always tell Gary he should charge more, but he's too much of a nice guy. :-D

He charges $30 for the fitting session only if you don't get anything done. However, if you decide to get some work done on your clubs, then the fitting session is free (I think).

Ducky,

..did Gary suggest that you stick to those two heads, or did he leave it up to you as to what you used ??

... any particular reason why you chose a V2 as your shaft of choice ? Is this what was suggested as a suitable shaft for you ?

The SMT Deep Bore 455 has always been quite popular amongst players who prefer component clubs as opposed to OEM. It looks good (although, I would prefer a black finish) and has many long driving awards to prove it is a top performer. I guess I would like to experience first hand what the fuss is all about.
And it would be significantly cheaper, I would think.

the ignites should be cheaper than SMTs by now....easily!!!

apologies ducky if this is off topic, but it's something I've been wondering...

When people talk about a 38 inch 5 iron, for instance, are they referring to the actual shaft length, or does that include the hosel of the club too??

I'm getting confused when looking at parrallel tip shaft trimming instructions, ie. below is the recommended trimming required to play to Stiff flex..

Tip trim according to the following and then butt trim to length

3-iron 1.5”
4-iron 2.0”
5-iron 2.5”
6-iron 3.0”
7-iron 3.5”
8-iron 4.0”
9-iron 4.5”
PW 5.0”

What I don't get is how you're supposed to butt-trim the (41 inch long raw) shaft to length, if it's already too short after tip-trimming it??!!
