Getting the JPX900 irons which has a gap wedge, just not sure whether to get it or get the new T7 50 degree.

What are everyone's preferences?

I prefer my gap wedges to match the full set.

Typically shots with my gap are full swings, so want the same feeling and turf interaction as the PW.

My sand and lob are different

I use Ping i25 irons and only carry 2 wedges apart from my PW.

The PW is 46*, the U wedge is 50* leaving an 8* gap to my 58* L wedge so I went with PW, 52* and 58* for a 6* gap between each.

I always try to match the gap wedge to my set.

I have 6 sets of irons and 7 sets of wedges. If the gap wedge is a true wedge, I can only use the matching sand and lob wedge, instead of being able to rotate them in and out.

It's complicated.

Personally, I use my gap wedge in the same manner I use my sw; I hardly ever hit full shots with it.

Because of this, I don't like a cavity back like the rest of my iron set. I prefer it to match my other vokeys as I play a lot of the same shots that I would with my sw and lobby.

I generally use my GW for full shots, so prefer it to match my iron set. That said, you can't get a GW with my irons so I've settled for it (kind of) matching my wedges.

I doubt it makes a material difference either way. Just get for the one you feel gives you the most confidence standing over the ball.

I'm the opposite to everybody so it seems...
I go with a gap to match my sand and lob wedges.
Purely cause I like to have the right bounce, plus I'm anal.

I struggle with matching gap, sand and lob wedge. (Too much choice, too much indecision.) So, if the iron set contains a gap wedge, then I'll use it.

But most tight-arse priced second-hand sets only go to PW. Problem solved with a forged 52 and 58 for playing off grass, and an old Ping Zing (also 52*) for bunkers and rocky lies

I never hit a full wedge. They go too far when I blade them.
Always use my gap at a half swing only and tend too have more control and accuracy.
My GW is matching the other wedges mainyl to suit the bounce that I need.

I have psi forged 4 to pw, and carry a 52 and 60 Cleveland. use the 60 out of the sand and 52 from around 80mtrs, but that suits my course for me.

I have the jpx 800 and use Pw 44* Gw 49* for full shots the have 52* 56* for chipping pitching and bunkers plus I carry a 60* for sand less bunkers and high quick stop shots

Which one are you getting? Tour, Forged or Hot Metal?

I prefer dedicated wedges, depending on the Iron set I go up to PW.

Current setup is MP68 to PW which is 47* then 50, 54, ,58 in MP T10. About to take delivery of MP T5's in the same combo.

The rest of my wedge sets are 48, 52, 56, 60 to go with my irons that have a 48* PW.

I've got the matching gap for my jpx850 forged, and later got a 55deg T7 to match shaft and length. Love both, cant go wrong imo. I lean more to the set's gap for extra forgiveness on full shots, but I hit it all over the face.

Wet track I go with the matching gappy, dry track I run with a blade wedge set

Purely personal preference. I have a gap wedge that doesn't match my irons or my 56 and 60 and I love it.

I'm same as Jazz

Nike 4 - pw, vokey 56 & 64

Hunted/swapped around until I found a gap which went the right distance (about 110m) full shot. Happened to be a Scor 49 wedge.

Nice. Yep, GW has a unique job so just has to hit a number.

Im getting the forged and ended up getting the gap wedge from the set. Our pro reckons they are awesome.

Maybe not so much.
This thread has made me start looking at some Scor wedges to replace the vokeys.
Not easily found in good condition as they stopped making them
I gather the recent Hogan wedges are the new incarnation of them

I'll take a guess. GW from the set may have more bounce and wider sole than the specialty wedge so could be a bit more forgiving in softer conditions.

Just sell them straight to Tim. You know you're going to punt them on after a week anyway! ;)

Tried both methods over the years. Currently using a matching gap wedge to my irons but also have a vokey that matches my lob wedge. Like has been said before goes on the conditions of the course.
