Long way out to get a single stab. They are usually a four ball. Also lets the day at Carbrook come in 2 weeks before! ;)

i'll have an answer for you by thursday PeteyD, i go back to work on Wednesday and should have my roster by then ;)

PeteyD
6th July 2006, 08:53 PM
Just a bump up. I need to put names on the sheets next weekend (16th) on the way to Carbrook.

AndyP
6th July 2006, 09:01 PM
Yeah, can't see why I would change my mind at this stage. I would also prefer an earlier time.

Can you confirm the cost for visitors please, PD?

PeteyD
6th July 2006, 09:04 PM
Lovely Francis at the office said around $20. I expect it to be that exactly. I will confirm when I am there this weekend.

BrisVegas

I'm keen, but I won't know for sure until a bit closer. Redland Bay was a nice & tough course from what I remember. Played it back in 2002.

Vegas, It was good in 2002, and it is better now.

I am keen but not sure if I will be able to get a leave pass 2 Sunday's in one month. I will say yes for now and confirm closer to the time.

BrisVegas
9th July 2006, 09:28 AM
I'm still keen, but as AndyP said, I'd prefer as early a game as possible. I don't mind leaving in the dark, if it means I can get home to wife & bub by lunch time... Just MHO, YMMV of course..

PeteyD
9th July 2006, 11:29 AM
Unfortunately they have social clubs in the morning so comp usually starts at 9:30.

PeteyD
9th July 2006, 03:11 PM
Price at this stage is $21, $10 for recip. Green fees have just gone up but the increase has not come through to comp day green fees which are 50% of normal ones (22-25) so may be 1.50 more.

Iain

Anyone got Kee's details. I need to put him in. I will still put Keza and BV in, we can have 2 groups of 3 if need be. Room for reserves!

Privisional Groupings based on random draw:

Jarro, gazgolf1, AndyP, Keza (Spare - 990B Luva?)

PeteyD, billybaub, nudgee, Andylo

If those guys with me don;t want to play with a high handicap spray merchant let me know so I can swap you around. (edit - initially had myself with 3 single figure guys, might not be a good idea).

You've gotta stop knocking yourself Pete. We're about a lot more than just the golf, and hacker or not we play with everybody. Just have a good time. And you don't have to worry about slowing a group down. I've played with plenty of higher hc'ers who really move round the course and I've played with low markers who move like snails.

It's all about the fun. You can tell from the scores appearing at some of the ozgolf games. Sometimes the only thing making the day enjoyable is the company ;) In fact, some of my worst games of golf have been at ozgolf days. I can only think of 2 reasonable rounds that I've had. But I've enjoyed them all.

Peteyd I am still only in Pencil for this one. But looking OK with those tee times.

After my Match Play win on the weekend I am now scheduled to play Shazza_RS in the next round. Do you want to swap me with Vegas so I can play this match if she is up to the task?

dc68
19th July 2006, 09:28 AM
Damn I got a prob, Broncos play the Tigers at 230 on the 30th. Pete how long does a round at Reddy Bay take on a Sunday and is it possible to get an earlier tee time? If not I will need to cancel mate, sorry I didn't even think to check the draw.

Jarro
19th July 2006, 09:33 AM
dc68, you could probably make it if you played in our first group ???

only problem i can see would be getting a park at Suncorp Stadium.

AndyP
19th July 2006, 09:45 AM
From Redland Bay, I can't see him getting to Milton by 2:30.

You could just play nine holes, dc. It's what all the trendy OZgolfers are doing these days.

PeteyD
19th July 2006, 10:41 AM
I would think you won't make it. Why bother, Tigers will kill em (hehehe :)) 9:30 tee will depends on what social groups, if any are in front. If none, you will roar around in 3.5 - 4 hours, which would give you plenty of time. Failing that you can do 9 holes and ncr if you like?

dc68
19th July 2006, 11:53 AM
will try coz I can jump a bus at carindale and it takes 20 mins from there,so will give it a shot if I can go in 1st group and if i am playing like a chump can do the boogaloo after 13 or 14 if need be. But I would not look forward to the bagging for being a quitter.

PeteyD
19th July 2006, 12:45 PM
Dave - you shouldn't get bagged too much! Swapped you into 9:30 and moved Kee. We can always change groups around on the day if need be. Carindale is about 30 mins from Reddy Bay, less if you drive like A-Lo.

AndyP
19th July 2006, 01:03 PM

Went down to check the list last night. The field is pretty solid behind us with no spaces until after 12:00.

They had 30mm if rain during the day yesterday, course was a bit wet (compulsory tee up and bunkers full of water). The weather looks like it will be great leading up to the weekend, so the course should be playing well come Sunday.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Jarro

um, having not played there for at least a couple of years ... can you tell me if there are any new holes/work t hat's been done there inthat time ?

PeteyD
26th July 2006, 04:13 PM
I have only been a member since January. Did play it a few years ago and I am pretty sure it is the same. Nice pic here on the website

http://www.redlandbaygolf.com.au/about.html

leighthebee
26th July 2006, 11:56 PM
depends what you mean by couple of years.

if you remember the course reno's from six or so years ago (added bunkering) and redesign of some of the holes, e.g. making the par 5 14th a real pr*ck of a hole instead of just a pr*ck, then not a lot has changed.

as of this morning, it was starting to dry out, so come Sunday, should be pretty tidy.

but it does get a lot of social traffic, so you may have to deal with some dodgy bunkers etc. fairways and greens should be solid, if a little slow, so keep it on the good stuff and you should have a cracker.

i'll probably be teeing off around midday so may miss you guys, but enjoy and let me know how you go.

AndyP
27th July 2006, 06:52 AM
So you won't be hanging around in the bar drinking for several hours after you finish?

leighthebee
27th July 2006, 08:17 AM
well, i will spend some time in the bar, but i won't get back in till 4.30-5.00pm.

if you guys are still there I say hi

if your looking for some food afterwards, i recommend the beef burger (its big) or if thats too much a bowl of chips, which goes down nicely with the beers. :smt087

27th July 2006, 09:44 AM
Peteyd, I am still in serious doubt for this one. I have a pregnant wife at home that has been rather unwell the last few weeks.

I have PM Shaz and she is cool with the situation, matchplay will be rescheduled if I can not play.

I will confirm either way tomorrow afternoon.

PeteyD

Nice one BV. Are you still married?

leighthebee
27th July 2006, 10:36 AM
the 14th! Aside from its overdesign. The whole was perfect before the bunkers were put in. Now we have the resort style mounding and bunkering on a few holes that take it out of character for the rest of the course

just my 2c :-D

I somehow doubt that Sept 17 will be your next game, BV.

Petey, what do you think is the best way to get there from Archerfield? Mt Cotton Rd?

PeteyD
27th July 2006, 11:30 AM
In north way:
Mt Gravatt - Capalaba Rd -- Mt Cotton Rd -- Duncan Rd (Sheldon) -- Boundary Rd -- Cleveland Redland Bay Rd

BEST FROM ARCHERFIELD:
In South Way (I lived at Mt Cotton and worked at Archerfield and went this way):
Crompton Rd -- Freeway South -- Beenleigh Redland Bay Rd (Exit After Bryants Rd / Hyperdome) -- Mt Cotton Rd -- Valley Way --
German Church Rd -- Clevelend Redland Bay Rd (or back way through Redland Bay)

Thanks everyone for showing up today. It was a wonderful day to be playing. The course was not too bad, if a bit wet in parts. Shazza won the day with a 39.

I had a 32 and played fairly solidly for me. I am happy to see my golf improving. Managed the first nine with no wipes and only 2 wipes on the back, one thanks to a ball lost down the edge of the 10th .

Well done on your first organised OZgolf Day, Petey, it was one of the bigger ones and it ran smoothly.

I really enjoyed my time out on the golf course today, so I guess my playing partners should take some of the credit for that. Thanks Gaz, jarro & 990B.

I liked the course, it seemed to require a bit of conservative play in several spots. It wasn't too long either, which did no harm to my game.
Fairways were pretty soggy in general, but appeared to be in good nick. Not sure about the greens though, as there seemed to be a lot of "bounce" in them.

Unfortunately my whole day was wiped out (8 to 5) so I could play there, so I guess I won't be making the trip too often. But I'd definitely play there again.

PD, Blakey prefers the scores in ranking order to help him out with the POTY money. Maybe you could cut and paste the below into the header post.

1. shazza_rs 39
2. AndyP 36
2. dc68 36

PeteyD

Taking an unplayable in a bunker is 100% against the rules of golf.
If only the rules of golf agreed with you, Moe. Which part of the 0% does the below rule fit into?

Rule 28

The player may deem his ball unplayable at any place on the course except when the ball is in a water hazard. The player is the sole judge as to whether his ball is unplayable.

If the player deems his ball to be unplayable, he must, under penalty of one stroke:
a. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or
b. Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped; or
c. Drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole.

If the unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player may proceed under Clause a, b or c. If he elects to proceed under Clause b or c, a ball must be dropped in the bunker.

The ball may be lifted and cleaned when proceeding under this Rule.

Looks like my advice was good, jarro.

Bunkers were not mentioned on the local rules board, only preferred lies.

Did it say "preferred lie on the fairway" or "through the green" ?

If it was through the green this should cover bunkers. However they are a hazard so perhaps not.

Sounds like Redland Bay needs some instruction on local rules after a week of rain.

PeteyD
31st July 2006, 01:05 PM
One of the bunkers on the 14th was out of play (was it that one Jarro was in?). All the others were in play. It was prefered lie through the green. Don't know if that includes bunkers though.

AndyP

I believe the board just said "preferred lies" and no other information, although the announcer for tee times probably said through the green.
Through the green does not include hazards, therefore no free place.
I did recall there was a ruling for the 14th, however the bunker in question was on the 5th.

Probably because you used a shot to take the relief, when there was a chance that you could get out by having a crack at it. Of course, doing that would have been risky and may have left you with nothing better.

Jarro
31st July 2006, 04:13 PM

entitled to relief with penalty, not without penalty. Unless of course they have the local rule that Courty mentioned, then it's without penalty.

the reason I would consider it a pointless drop is that you could not play a great shot, but you could blast it out of the trap for one stroke, or drop it within the trap for one stroke. I'd prefer the former.

Moe Norman
31st July 2006, 04:27 PM
just checked that one, I'm wrong again - which brings me to a point....

when I played matchplay against 990B, he lent down and moved stuff in a bunker. I told him he wasn't allowed to do that, he said that they were pebbles and that you are allowed. I incorrectly took his word for it, and have since thought this was the rule until now.

I need to consult my rule book more often!

AndyP
31st July 2006, 04:32 PM
Here's the Rule on that one

23-1. Relief
Except when both the loose impediment and the ball lie in or touch the same hazard, any loose impediment may be removed
without penalty.
.
.
.
.
Note: If the ball lies in a hazard, the player must not touch or
move any loose impediment lying in or touching the same
hazard – see Rule 13-4c.

no disrespect peteyd, I agree with Brisvegas on this one. The Bay's greens are very grainy and usually break less than looks show. The rule seems to be don't give away the hole.

I remember following Baker Finch around here when he was playing Qld Foursomes a long time ago and the bugger could read 'em like a book. Simply amazing. That said he couldn't off a tee with anything short of a duck hook.

Maybe I worded what I said poorly, but this is what I meant by a subtle break, it is less than it looks, except for the big swales (9th and 6th come to mind). Generally hit it at the hole works.

I don't normally find too much of a problem with the pots, but can;t believe they left ones washed out like that in play. Mind you the ones I was in were crap as well. Plugged in wet sand is pretty sucky.

Jarro really got a crapolla result there. The CCR for Saturday was 70. I wonder if the bunkers were out of play.

I also read the local rule board again on Saturday as I was waiting for my lesson. Washouts in bunkers are GUR, drop in the bunker for no penalty, drop out for 1 stroke. And rocks are able to be removed in bunkers.

Bad luck for jarro. Does anyone write down the local rules before heading out?

Hope the lession gets fixed up, Petey.
