View Full Version : HTTP to HTTPS (Downtime - Dec 29 2016)

Hey all

As you would have noticed if you tried to visit the forum today, we disappeared from the interwebs for a little while. This was due to the site adding an SSL certificate and changing IP address, which allows the links to become HTTPS instead of the HTTP that they were before. This was done to make sure that Tapatalk works in the new year, as it has become a requirement of iOS applications, and Google would have been marking the site as insecure also. Unfortunately, I was not aware that they would be changing the IP address to do this, and could not provide warning that the site would be disappearing; sorry for that.

You might find that you can only access the site via your phone and not your PC, or vice-versa. This isn't that strange, as it takes time for your various internet providers to update to the new IP address. Here's something that you can try, as I posted on Stalkbook, if you are only able to browse via the phone.

If you can't see the forum yet, you can try to speed it along by clearing your browser cache (http://support.hostgator.com/…/how-do-i-clear-my-web-browse…), and doing a DNS flush (http://support.hostgator.com/articles/flush-dns). If that doesn't work, you will have to wait a bit longer to report that crappy round that you played, or buy that putter that you don't need.

It might not work yet, but you could also try using a VPN like I am now. Apparently, I'm in Florida at the moment.

So now that this update has been done, don't assume that things will be smooth sailing just yet. There may be some links around on the forum that still have HTTP, such as images, and this may prevent Tapatalk from working in the new year. I have a list of some files, and I will try to address these over the next couple of days. If you come across any problems, please let me know.

Thanks Andy. It looks like the Advanced Reply page is stuffing up. Love, Andy.

Windows 10 on PC okay, but getting 'Only secure content is displayed' pop-up box with 80% of the screens. That would mostly be from the images that this "Gamer Green" style uses. If I can't easily make them https as well, then there is a modification that I found that should fix it.

Andy, the stats and latest posts at the bottom of the main page are also not working.Hmmm, I guess some of the modifications have been affected.

I cleared history and typed www.ozgolf.net/forums and got Not found, the requested url/forums was not found on this server.

HTTPS did jump in front of the address.

Removed the word forums and I got in

Working now, along with multi-quote, etc. It was reliant on javascript files that were using an external http link. It uses a local reference now.

Either the above or the regeneration of the forum style sheets fixed this one up.

There is still mixed content on the website, although I have addressed what I can so far.
An example of mixed content on this page is the two images in Daves' signature, which are taken from http://i.imgur.com . There are modifications to fix this, but I will avoid these at this stage, as this would involve importing all the images shown in all threads and signatures, which would be massive. I'll wait and see what happens with Tapatalk tomorrow, and general browser use after that, and re-assess.

It's been looking good on IE11 running on Windows 10 for a while now.

Thanks AP.

Great.

I actually changed all of the signatures to https via database manipulation, since they were either hosted here or imgur. All except Lefty's, which is on photo bucket.

You're a security threat. Expect the authorities to come knocking soon.

I've always thought that way about myself.

I posted about it on Facebook for the benefit of those who can't get in. As Lefty said, it is waiting on the SSL certificate renewal, although it would help if the hosts didn't ask stupid questions that resulted in a extra day turnaround due to our time difference with the US.

P.S. Your phone needs charging.
