They were a bit sticky on this last time we played jarro. I don't think I could swing a social player in the group (although the timesheets will be pretty clear). Maybe sheriff jaster could swing something. He's chummy chummy with the pro :smt056

Sorry Andylo, I tried but I was told no handicap or intention to join (letter etc) or similar and no play :( We are swinging Eag's as he is getting 1 of his first cards in as he has joined a club and is yet to get an AGU and the club isn't in golflinks shhh....;) Don't think we could do this for 2 people...bit too suss????

Can anyone help andylo with an AGU??

Nudgee,

if you're unsure, just wait at the servo at the top of the range. I'll have my mobile on... and shouldn't be too far away

we're leaving Brissy at 5am. I wanna get there and have a bit of a putt before we hit off.

can't wait \:D/

goughy
13th May 2004, 06:21 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if we're at the range by about 6am ish.

I'll get robyn to create a map for directions, but it's pretty easy.

Reach the top of the range and drive past the servo at the top. Just follow the road as it bends to the right (becomes James Street). You'll go down then up the hill and through several sets of lights. Eventually you'll reach a set of sights which is the main street (Ruthven Street). At the lights there will be a Caltex servo on your right and a BP on your diagonal right hand side. Turn left here. Drive through the next set of lights then turn right at the third street (South Street, it's got a sign indicating the golf club).

We'll be parked at the bottom end of the car park near the 18th green. Just look for the big ugly green van.

Can anyone help andylo with an AGU??

Andy, not sure how keen you are to get a handicap but you are definately a keen golfer. If it's a money issue, there here's a simple fix. Join up at Casino (in NSW) as a Country Member - $140. No requirement to play at Casino for them to maintain your AGU handicap, just need to hand in 5 cards to set up your handicap, then atleast 5 cards every 12 months.

Kind of rorting the system, but you will have no reciprocal rights anywhere. You will need to pay comp fees for any round you play. However you most likely could have played in Toowoomba and marked the card as a handicap round.

Besides, we could do with the money for the new clubhouse going up ;)

Fishman Dan
13th May 2004, 10:07 AM
Is Emmy Lakes building a new clubhouse for something like $3m? We need the memberships ;)

I remember you telling me about the Emmy Lakes deal, wasn't there a 'catch' (term used guardedly)? Comp fees or green fees? Not trying to steal business here, besides, we're both pitching for Andy to get a membership at a course he's never likely to play on ;)

andylo
13th May 2004, 10:17 AM
Thanks a lot guys :)

Yes, to be very honest it's the money issue!! I probably just run into some sh1t luck recently but whenever I save up enough $$ to do something there will always be something else coming up and chew up all my saving!!

For example, this month is content insurance + phone/elec bills + other expenses.

My current situation is a bit too tight but it's my business really so you guys don't need to worry, I will sort out a way :)

AndyP
13th May 2004, 10:24 AM
Fishy, I think the catch at Emmy Lakes was that the rounds there were still full price. :?
The thing is, if you have an AGU handicap, it's cheaper to play golf anyway. Comp golfer is generally cheaper than social golf. Example: Sunday at Gailes, Social - $33, Comp - $8.80. 8)

andylo
13th May 2004, 10:30 AM
Is the GolfBank card share the same benefit Andy?

AndyP
13th May 2004, 10:36 AM
Not sure what sort of discounts you get with the Golfbank card, but I have the Golf Course Guide Discount Book and find that I don't need to use it when I play an AGU comp at a club.

andylo
13th May 2004, 10:43 AM
I got that book as well, just that it can't help the AGU thingy

Oh, when I mean "benefit", I know GolfBank card can give you a handicap as well. Just not sure if I can play with comp fee or not.

Fishman Dan
13th May 2004, 11:40 AM
GolfBank, GolfCard etc etc are all the same, and no cheaper in the long run. You pay up front for the membership, then still pay for rounds of golf at their 'eligible' courses - which are usually more "elite" courses. I'd say you'd still spend $400+ to get your handicap.

Emmy Lakes is your best bet - and it's relatively close to you if you ever need to play there.

And as AndyP said, once you're a member and have a handicap you don't need to pay Green Fees, you'll be paying Comp Fees which are cheaper.

andylo
13th May 2004, 11:48 AM
Ok, I guess I better give myself a proper AGU thingy.

G69, would you please kindly fill me up info regarding to the Emm. Lake membership, please? :)

andylo
13th May 2004, 12:10 PM
Thanks g69, will ring them straight away after work. So you guys should see me with an AGU thingy soon enough :)

andylo
13th May 2004, 01:27 PM
Andy

Once you have paid for the membership you should be able to hand in handicap cards played previously. Provided they are signed by marker with an AGU handicap.

That means....??

Jaster you failed to mention that I score a ton ie 100 (first time in 2 years)!! I love this game - my last three rounds were 79 (macleod) 73 (Nudgee south) and 77 (nudgee north) and just when I was feeling cocky about dominating this game and nearly getting down to single figures, I go and I score 100!!!!

Hey S#$t happens. played like a dog and scored like a dog but thoroughly enjoyed the day

The greens were just awesome - it was like putting on glass. I think I had over 40 putts

Ggirl69 - can't get a haircut coz I would loose all my strength :D
Fishman Dan - I have sent out my application form to my local bowls club! I hope they approve it.

Funnily enough, it wasn't the driver at all that let me down - it was the only club that seemed to be turned on - everything else was shite.

Terryand1 - I blame this entirely on you - you said to me at the driving range on wednesday that I was hitting the ball as good as you have ever seen me and then I made the comment - I am due for a classic "form" fallout and that I hoped it wasn't at Toowoomba - it is almost spooky, I must have ESP or something.

Jarro - I couldn't agree with you more buddy but where is the fun in that - some people get really pissed off and angry when they have shithouse rounds like mine today coz they take golf so seriously - I on the other hand am just happy to be out there belting balls with a good group of friends and enjoyed today thoruoughly - no golf throwing or swearing or been a grumpy little shit! - if I score shit then hey it could be worse - I could be in Iraq  I never blame my equipment as the excuse for my poor games and I try all these new stuff coz of the buzz of hitting the latest gear - heck as far as I know I could be the only dude in Oz with an R7 - I don't expect it to improve my game and don't get angry when it doesn't - golf is my passion and toying/tinkering with new equipment is part of that. Scoring is secondary. Hey i am not doing that bad with a hcap of 10

But as a test I will keep my exact set up for the next three months and come to think of it naaaaahhhhhh......

I hear the R9 is in secret testing and that there is a new Callaway driver called BLACK in the making. I can feel more hoooing coming on!!!

I'd just like to thank everyone for playing today. Thanks for bringing the bootfull of clubs up for me nudgee, and thanks terry for the bootfull of clubs. I couldn't try them all today because of the whole stupid "14 club" rule thingy, but they will be tested soon. Unfortunatley since I'm hitting so bad at the moment I might not be able to tell the difference between them all  I'll talk to ya soon terry.

It was a fun day today.

Cool Goughy, don't be scared of the blue in the deep bore,it will be softer than your Nemy as it is not shafted to full depth.

Terry.

Talking to the captain tonight about the speed and he said that the 10th hole should not have been cut so close to the front and the greenkeepers will be in trouble for that  He said that anymore wind and more sun and that pin position would have become unplayable  I didn't think it was playable as it was :P

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I had a 4 putt in my 76 today :smt021 :smt017 :smt043
