I realise it is a bit early but due to a few constructive comments/suggestions put forward during this years Champs I am putting this out now so as to know which direction to head in 2017.

Basically the options are:

1) Leave things as they are, Kitchener Cup played on the Friday, Champs over two rounds, Sat/Sun, plus rounds arranged on the Thursday and Monday for those wanting them.

2) Revert the Champs back to the single round on the Sunday likely played at RAGC, (as per 2014), have the Kitchener Cup on the Saturday, (meaning people will not have to try and get a day off work to play), with extra rounds arranged on the Thurs, Fri, Monday for those wishing to play.

These are the two current suggestions, BUT if anyone has anything to add/propose to better these then please let me know, either here or via PM.

Cheers,

'nadg'

Nadg,

I mentioned to my 'subjects' after my crowning on Sunday that as I'll likely be residing temporarily in Melbourne from mid 2017 that perhaps Chilled (I see him as Baldrick to my Blackadder) may like to try and organise Kooyonga for the Sunday. I'll attend to defend the jacket but may not be able to facilitate RA as an interstate member.

I'd prefer 2 rounds for champs, Kitchener could still be played for on the Saturday in conjunction with Round 1.

I don't think there's a lot wrong with option 1 personally.

The point of champs over 2 days was to try and get people to play both. Having Kitcheners on Friday encourages participation there too

In my opinion the Thurs/Mon are optional warm up/warm down

It's not like 1 years notice isn't a lot. Chances are the people that post on a golf forum aren't adverse to taking a single day off to play golf once in a while!!

Leave it the way it is.
As I said it is probably the worst time of year for me, work wise, but I probably need a break around then as well.

I'll get in touch regarding that ;)

10 months notice this year didn't exactly work too well ................ !

Time wise we are a bit limited as we ended up with November to a) avoid other States Champs rounds and b) get reasonable weather for it - HAHA!

We should be planning to cater for the people we have, who regularly play together through here. If that means we only have 8 players eligible for champs I'm personally fine with that. Some of my favourite rounds of golf over here have been our OzGolf away days - it is those people who aren't taking the opportunity to play in them that are missing out, not those that do!

Thurs/Mon were similar to last year. Was the local turnout on other days that different? We won't get interstaters every year, and I look at the other champs and see numbers fluctuate from year to year.

Of course I could be in a minority here, but I don't think it's broken so long as we keep the course rotation fresh each year

Not sure they would listen to me but I'll give it a shot.

I may be running low on leave next year as I am going to the UK for a few weeks and maybe a few other places but will endeavour to make the fri-sun at a minimum...

Time for my 50c worth.
Nothing's broken, nothing needs fixing IMHO.
I think the Champs rounds have to be over 2 rounds. IMHO is you need to earn the title by being the best over more rounds than just one.
It creats a bit more interest and makes the whole seeded group on the last day relevant. If you want to win it you need to make the commitment.

I also like the Kitchener Cup on a Friday and gives us more options to rotate it around to other courses to make it part of the S.A Champs attraction to play courses never played before. There's plenty of notice to plan 1 day off for the locals.

I thought we did well with the format this year coming up with a theme (Kitcheners v Schnits) that will work forever no matter how many visitors attend.

This may be a little off topic but I'll say it anyway.
While it's great to have as many fellow OzGolfers from other states to come and join in.
The responsibility of success or failure of the S.A Champs rests purely with us S.A members, no one else. If we want to have bigger/larger numbers of participants it's up to us to commit to it and recruit more local forum members. Just bare in mind there are limits in numbers if we play at tier 1 courses and want to keep costs contained a bit.

Even though the Saturday of the Ozgolf Champs will forever fall on the first day of Grades Matchplay Champs at NH, I also say leave it as it is.

The way you played (was there a NAGA involved?) surely you can't expect to qualify for the matchplay.

I am also in the leave it as is voting block.

I think the Kitchener Cup format is a stayer, as long as we can remember who was on each team. Once a Schnit, always a Schnit!

There are plenty of slopes there you can use to carve Marcel's face into

1st hole being the most ideal

Side hill lie on 14 could fit a few and would be a good attraction walking up 11 with all the faces carved in the hill.
Sadly well never get to see them as going there would be as low as it gets for a champs round.
