X-Tour vs. CG10

I am considering a new wedge purchase as the title suggests. I can get either one on eBay for around the same price. I wanted to see if anyone had done any comparisons or can offer pros & cons for each.

Hi Courty,

I am currently an owner of 3 CG10 wedges (52*, 58* and 60*) and have tried a friend's Taylormade wedges. Both of the clubs have similar feel to it, but due to the finger print grooves on the Taylormade, the ball tends to bite more than the CG10s. (I have tried them on the driving range only).

I would say it is all down to personal preference, some prefer the feel and the looks of Vokey wedges, others prefere Taylormade, Cleveland, Mizuno...etc. The best thing for you to do is to demo one out and see how you like them. If you do like the Cleveland, I would recommend you, if you can ever get your hand on one, try the Cleveland Tour Action 900 BECU. That is an awesome wedge! Pretty much can do whatever you feel like with it.

X-Tour.... I am going to getting some too.

Played with both set at the following spec:

X-Tour:
- 56 bend to 54... so bounce from 13*->11*
- 60(PM) bounce 11*

CG10 (Black Pearl):
- 54* Low bounce (10*)
- 60* Low bounce (8*)

Well I also played with the following: :)

CG11 (Black Pearl)
- 54* Low Bounce (10*)
- 60* Low Bounce (10*)

ALL in DGS300 shaft.

The Cleveland both models actually feel much heavier while the Cally feel more lively to me. Impact feel wise I really like the CG11 more because these just simply more forgiving wedge.

Full shot and pitch shot are about the same but I tend to hit the CG11 a couple of meters further.

BIGGEST difference would be the Cally PM 60*. I usually unable to put lots of spin on my chip shots but a 10 meters chip with a Cally PM really pull up much quicker than all the others so I can go more aggressive with it :D

All the bounce angle are actually too high for my home course because the ground is Ti hard panned :roll: but if I manage don't duff them I find the Cally is a better performer overall.

CG10 would be the hardest to use - but actually feel the softest on good impact
CG11 would be the most forgiving for the full shot but no difference on pitch shot and chip
Cally is the best all rounder - and the 60* PM really spin it... and a lighter club overall.

Correct me if I am wrong here but I would have thought that wedges are suppose to be accuracy oriented club than distance club? That is why we have different degree wedges.

Oh one more thing.

The Cally PM suppose to have better grinding so I guess its for better player to do their creative short shots with it. But as a true hack I didn't try to do anything with it... aka didn't try flop shots and difficult stuff like that. So if I use it just normally I dont' feel any advantage is gained to me with the PM grinding.

Well, after doing some more reading/ research, I have made my decision.
Last night I bought a chrome 58° Callaway X Tour with PM grind & Mack Daddy grooves. :twisted:

What about mixing different brand of wedges ? Is this advisable or should the wedge setup be kept to the same brand ?

Many like continuity in their wedges, but you use whatever works for you. One brand may be better in 60* than another, while anothers 54* will be the way to go.

i have a mixed wedge set

just becauase i cant afford to get another 588 cleveland in 52*
It really sucks having mixed wedges...my gap wedge plays so strage.
Its heavier, rusty compared to a satin finish and is just poor. But should have the 588 soon, so it wont be a problem anymore

I hit perci's X-tour wedge today, alongside his Titty SM and my Nomad Vokey. I might be a touch biased, but i thought my Nomad crapped on the others ..... the X-Tour was a big disappointment :shock:

I've got a Ping i3+ pitching (47 deg) and gap wedges (52), and Ping MB sand (56) and lob (60) wedges. They seem to go together quite well. Had to drop the 4 iron in the process and bend the 5 iron a little stronger to fill the gap, but I'm enjoying the 4 wedge setup. 8)

Took the new X-Tour for a run today. It certainly does spin. It also tore the cover of my ball to shreds. :shock: On more than one occasion I checked the face of the wedge after a shot and found little white bits of my ball left behind in the grooves.
Verdict: although it may cost me more in balls in the long run, this is exactly what I was after. I needed a wedge that I could fly to the hole and be confident it would stop. My RACs were good, but would release a bit more on occasions giving me unexpected results.

yep, i can get the Nomad 58* to stop the ball pretty much on the spot too, without any damage to the pill 8)
