I think I did mention when we first booked that Johnny boy and I are off to Uluru for our (gulp) 30th (gulp) wedding anniversary. We wanted to do something special so we are off on Saturday for a three night trip.

We are staying at Sails In the Desert and plan to do a helicopter flight over the rock and the Olgas. I've never been to the "outback" before so I'm exicted about it. And guess what - the resort has a nine hole putting green. Yea!!!!

Who else has been there? What did you think? What did you do?

I've never been to the outback either, FG.

Someone mention shag on a rock?

Enjoy FG, it's amazing out there. I was lucky enough to see the desert during relentless rain! Gun-barrel straight highways with wildflowers either side. It was surreal.

When we got to Uluru it was pi$$ing down and single-figure temp, needless to say climbing was out that day, but they'll give you the hard word - so whether you choose to climb or not is your decision.

Me and my mate took a 6 pack with us, its a bloody long (and high walk). Got offered $10 for one of the stubbies, but didnt take it.

Warning: there is a chain that you use to help walk up the rock. When you get to the end of the chain you just look up a little and breath a sigh of releif that you have made it. Wrong - your only half way there - keep going!

By the way thats a great spot to sit, on the way back, drinking your last stubbie and heckling everyone as the go past, the look on their faces when you tell them they are only half way is priceless.

FG make sure you do Sounds of Silence call Voyages on 1300 134 044.

This is a must do.

From Ayers Rock Resort To Sounds of Silence Site . Sounds of Silence is a truly unique Outback experience the bestof the Red Centre distilled into four magic hours. Here is an unforgettable evening, eating beautifully prepared food under the Outback sky. It's our great hope that every visitor who comes to Ayers Rock Resort will join us in this event and share the pleasure we take in it.
A special location is chosen where guests are escorted shortly before sundown. A lone didgeridoo echoes across the desert as you enjoy champagne and canapes. While the sun sets in a blaze of reds and oranges, and well into the starlit night, you feaston array of the Northern Territory's culinary delights, including barramundi, kangaroo, emu, crocodile, bush salads and classic Australian desserts. Attention then turns to some of the world's best stargazing, with the assistance of our resident astronomer. As you wind down, coffee or tea are served. In winter, guests gather arounda campfire to savour a special treat of hot mulled wine.

There is comp booze during dinner also. Beer, wine , bubbles and softys.

i forgot to mention: in my opinon Kings Canyon is a must see, i thought it was better than Ayers Rock. There was something special about sleeping under the stars and nobody else within hundreds of miles (so it seems) except for the two lesbians about 50m away - (how unlucky can two blokes get in the middle of the desert)

I'll admit however that there is a resort there now, so it wont be so isolated and peacefull

Only been to Alice Springs (great golf course) and that felt like I was in a completely different country - very relaxed with great scenery that's nothing like home.

Amanda has been to the rock, I have yet to go .... don't forget to tell us about it when you get back :)

Well we're back after a great trip! But very, very broke!!!!!!!!!!!Man is that place expensive!!!!:-?
We had an awesome time and a great 30th. We walked around the base - the longest walk I've done without a club in my hand. I loved the rock. It was just so mysterious and mythical. Loved all the colours of the desert - makes me want to get out the paints and brushes.
Took a helicopter flight over the rock and the Olgas - fantastic way to see them.
We had the Sounds of Silence dinner. It was good - except for the food posoining that kicked in about 3am. At $129 a head - a bit much even without the bad food handling.
I wish that we could have just gone to see Uluru and the surounding area without all the "hoopla" that goes with it. But the resort really has the whole area stitched up.
It was great just to spend the time together and celebrate a great milestone. 30 years ago I married my best mate - and my heart still sings when we are together. ( and the sex is still bl###dy awesome too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!):-D:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrg reen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

The night was great DC- no problems there. I am so glad we did it. Just a shame about the dodgy dinner. I would still advise people to do it.:-D
