Just use some masking tape Rob, if you are super keen draw some lines on the ball with texta. That will tell you everything you need to know

Cheers mate.

Ive looked at all sorts, from deoderant spray to masking tape.
And masking tape it is.

What will the lines on the ball tell me and how?

Personally I use the clear packing tape, try to get the one that is a little thicker (3M/Scotch) this will 1 not tear/break and 2 be way easier to get off the club and doesn't leave bits of tape/glue.
