Hi Guys

Just found this forum! loving it so far.

So I'm currently in the market for a new set of irons. At present I'm hitting an old second hand set of Callaway Big Bertha Fusion irons I go off ebay.

My handicap is dropping and I'm looking to get fitted with some new irons.

At the moment I like the reviews of Taylormade M2's and Mizuno JPX EZ forged irons.

I'm going to go and get fitted and try a few out, but what do people think of the two sets?

I am also looking at Callaway X2 Hot as they are ALOT cheaper than the above two sets.

Go cheaper, they won't be any better or worse.

Are forged irons noticeably better?

Someone keeps banging on about Toppies being good. Find some of those.

I used to own Fusions. They were really good, really expensive irons with a great feel in a very compact size given their forgiveness.

I suspect they'd still be a match for most irons today. They are certainly good enough to cope with a tumbling handicap.

The M2s are much more of a game improvement iron, as are the X2 Hots. I've not tried the Mizunos.

What is it you are looking for?

If it is modern club length, the closest I've found is the Wilson C200, which has a very similar soft feel.

If you want more feedback and more of a 'players' iron, try Mizuno MP H4 or H5.

Feel in a h4 or h5?
You're kidding aren't ya?
Hideous clubs and nothing "player" about them.
MP52 are a good buy.

I use mizuno jpx 800 and find them to be pretty good
Forged clubs can be adjusted, loft wise , cast clubs can be as well but there is a bigger risk and can't be done as often .
Hope this helps

Both are considered Super Game Improvement

I would go Mizuno as forged heads would be able to be adjusted easier to suit you.

Each to their own.

I enjoyed my brief sojourn with the MP H4. Almost as nice feel-wise as my Adams CMB, quite forgiving in the long irons, same size and offset as other MPs in the scoring irons.

I agree it is to each their own but I'm sure if you put the MP H4 next to the MP4, you would see the significant difference in the size of the shorter irons. It's significant to me anyway.

Aren't the h4 hollow?

Google Topflite Oversized irons, plenty on ebay.com ;)

Oh look, there's some just to the left!!!

Get a good older (cheaper) model game improvement iron and then later down the track (as you grow as a player and ho) you can make an informed choice. There are ooooodles of great cheap iron sets. Irons from 5 years ago will be very similar to 90% of the new ones.

X2 Hot would be fine, even the original X-Hot. A mate games them off single figures. I see a set of old AP1 4 iron all the way down to a few vokeys with R300 shaftson ebay for cheap.

The main thing is probably to get a set with a reasonable shaft in the correct flex for now.
