View Full Version : Is this tendonitis?

Over the summer, I picked up a bit of a twinge in my left hand.

It's not especially painful, like, I'm never in agony, but it is sore and I have cutback on my usual play/practice because of it.

But it just won't go away.

Runs down the back of my left hand from just under my ring and middle finger and into my wrist. Sometimes I can even feel it in my forearm. The general feeling is an ache, and it comes and goes, activity aggravates it, and, in general, from the elbow down my arm feels a bit tired and stiff.

Had a chat to my GP about it, but he wasn't much interested.

Thoughts?

CTS maybe?

Now there is a true example of an Ozgolfer. Consulting with us before asking Dr Google.

I'm no expert on the subject, but it might be Carpal Tunnel rather than tendonitis as such, as suggested by Nemo. A Sports Medicine medico might be more helpful than a standard GP.

Sounds like Carpel to me...the only remedy for it is to give all your golf gear to the second person that mentions it in this thread :)

Seriously, a nerve specialist will be the go. We have that silly sciatic nerve thing that causes all sorts of issues that are hard to pin point.

If it is, and I hope it's not that won't be great news.

Just been reading about CTS: Tingling/numbness seem to be a key symptom, and I haven't had this.

Going to throw it over to another one of my local GPs, see what they say.

I lost the feeling in half my left hand about 3 years ago. It all started with a tingling for about a week then just when numb.
I don't have any pain whatsoever, but it's just annoying.
Went to the Neurologist and had all of the tests. Bloods, Electro-Conductive (twice because they stuffed up the first) and ultrasounds
Bloods came back fine because they were thinking maybe diabetes, Conductive tests said the problem is about 3 inches above my elbow and the ultrasound said I had calcification around the nerve.
Neurologist finally told me that if they operate the success isn't great.
Anyway 3 years on and I'm now looking for a second opinion because my left hand is now probably 25% smaller than my right due to the numbness.

I shouldn't be laughing at this.

Sorry to hear that waza. When nerves are involved, it can take quite a bit to get right, if at all. Both my Dad's hands are semi-numb after a fall he had about 10 years ago. He's lost all the finer senses but anything cold or hot is extremely cold or hot to the touch for him.

OK, my turn. Developed a strong pain right between the deltoid and bicep at the front of the left shoulder on Monday. It hasn't dissipated since so I'm thinking it might be tendon related. Wondering if anyone else has had this and if they worked out what might have caused it. I'm supposed to be in the quarter finals matchplay on the weekend so I'm really pissed off.

Can you get your arm above your shoulder?

Sounds like it, I had it from Paddling. 3 months of rehab before I could lift anything heavier than 10 kg

Depends on aggravation, I had put up with the pain and kept racing.
It is something that if it hurts it requires rest as the swelling increases and therefore gets worse if you dont let it heal. Welcome to the world of regular stretching.

Well I haven't done anything since it started so aggravation is only emotional at this stage. :) Funnily, there's no swelling, just pain to the touch and obviously lifting my arm up.

no swelling the pain is from the swelling of the tendon, internally.

Makes sense. I can do 3/4 backswing, I think I can strike the ball but I can't follow through with the left at all. So close and yet so far! Damn..

Have you seen a physical terrorist yet?
They may be able to give treatment and exercises that can get you half right to play.

I'd be smashing it with my pain pod (ten machine) if it was me but unless you have one of those, that's useless info.

I've just been trying to rest it. Too busy at work to make an appointment. Will see how I go. Hoping for the miracle recovery at the moment.

Seriously go and see either your doctor or physio if it doesn't get better.

That sounds like bursitis.

Ive been getting it for about 9 months. Regular physio and it comes back ok, then will flare up for no reason.

Mine has gotten to the stage, where the physio reckons i will need a reco in the next couple of years

Resting it isnt always awesome.
Try this.

Bend over at 90*
Let your sore arm just hang of its own weight.
Then do small circles with it, gradually getting bigger until they are big enough to touch your legs. Then start again going the other way.

When my arm totally stops working, which is about once a month, this starts to get some movement back in it

Well, I saw the quack yesterday and he prescribed a couple weeks' rest but the mongrel in me got the better of me this morning; downed some painkillers and anti-inflammatories, lathered up with tiger balm and got the missus to strap my shoulder up football style and with adrenaline pumping to boot, not only did I put up a show, I got up 2 and 1. ;)
