Yep, was getting bombarded by this cover. I've never been a fan of the original but appreciated it for the great sing and performance it was. All the soul of the sing is gone.

Only problem is I've never been able to find a video for it. There are videos with the song, but not an official clip. Considering it got to #2 here during the 70's I'd have thought that Countdown would have shown it.

There is a similar thread on TGF, and the wisest thing said there is that it is pointless trying to discuss music on the internet. It is all a matter of opinion, and if ever challenged to justify your opinion, all you can say if that you like it because you like it. Then someone insults you and your taste in music, and it all goes pear shaped.

The trouble with covers, particularly in the modern era, is that they will either be direct copies of the original, or radical departures so they stand out. Fast Car is a good example of this. But in the new You tube world, making a cover is the easiest way to get attention.

Also, loyalists always prefer the original because of the memories it brings back to them. For some people, the preferred version will be whichever one they heard first.

But, just so people can insult my taste in music, here's few covers that in my opinion are better than the original.

All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix, Dave Matthews Band and U2 are all better than Bob Dylan's original)

I presume the cover was much endorsed, given the film clip appearance. However good the cover is, the original video is classic Tyler/Aerosmith.
