2016 models are retailing for $569, any ideas on what price should 1 be paying for these?Surely paying full retail price would seem a bit silly these days

Ummmm $569?The dollars ****ed so that's about it.

Your local pro will prob knock a couple of dollars of retail, as would Drummonds or Powergolf. Doesn't hurt to ask

Haven't seen them there yet (as I haven't played for two weeks) but Eastlake proshop are pretty competitive price wise on Scotty's... they even have a sign (or used to) that said Sydney's best Scotty prices!

15-20% off retail is possible. Recent House of Golf sale was 20% off recently.

Dummonds have a 20% off sale on most things at the moment, including Titleist and Ping... but I noticed putters only 10% and don't think it included Scotty's. Especially don't think it would include the new range. Am sure they would offer some sort of discount i you asked or are a club member though.

During the sale, we could get any in. My mates ordered a few.

Considering there are a number of customs that can be made for less than this, the pricing is absurd.

They'll still sell though.

You hit the ball 80 odd times a round, 30 to 35 times with a putter, yet we all don't blink spending equal cash on drivers or irons.

Money well spent.

How so?

A massed produced putter, made by a subcontracted machine shop. I don't disagree that spending money on a putter is important.

Spending that much money on one that isn't even made by Scotty Cameron is absurd.

Many more brands and custom putter makers, who will make to your specs, with your customisation, with your colour choices, for less - in their own shops.

What about buying a Scotty for $400 and then spending another $350 on mods??

Is there where jim posts "there are threads about Scotty Cameron, let's go there"

I don't want to form an argument about wasted cash on golf purchases, it's mostly pointless in here. I will agree and say a personally constructed putter would be nice, but like a $300 driver shaft, it's also mostly pointless in here :)

Captain Nemo
5th April 2016, 02:21 PM
PTJ, what actual model putter are you looking at buying?
If your after a Newport, or 1.5 style putter do yourself a favour and hunt down a Studio Style in these models.
One of the most underrated insert putters he's made, hands down great value for Buck.
You'll save yourself $250 or so, which you can put towards an aimpoint express course!
If your after one of the new fandangled shapes, then go ahead and spend the money.
Or you could go down the TeI route, which are beautiful feeling insert putters....
Just my 1 cents worth......

I don't see the point. You've spent $250 more than a custom, and it's still an OTR scotty.

Edit: unless you are getting mods outside the the Scotty custom shop to make something interesting.

Took me a while to tweak to this... [emoji3]

Think the idea is there is a dampening layer in between the head and the insert to make the feel softer and betterer...

I've spent way more on drivers in particular than on putters over the years. I've had my Scotty Newport Select 2.0 in the bag almost exclusively since Nov 2012. Had a GoLo for a Studio Design Scotty in the bag for a bit, but over that same period I've gone through so many drivers and a few iron sets...

Whoever said spending $300 on aimpoint express was a good investment is bloody spot on. Best money I have ever spent on golf.

Haven't rolled one yet but have seen them in person (I'm sure others have as well) and they are nice. The Newport looks a little odd on first impressions but the Newport 2 looks good. The Notchback was the standout for me in the few minutes I had to check them out but keen to see them in a shop to have a roll too.
