City Golf Club Driving Range

Well, our new driving range opens today. I'm hoping to take Kyan down and have a hit after school this arvo. Still more work to be done but they wanna get it going. I'll try and take some pics while down there. Bit excited, as going to the range was one of the things Kyan an I enjoyed doig together and have missed it since ours shut down a while ago. Can't believe a city the size of Toowoomba has been without one for so long.

I did here some gossip regarding the decision to award the contract to the City Pros, and not putting it out to tender, and the connection with the Pro's Dad being Club President. But thats just fairway talk, probably a long way from being the real story.

Well we got a little bit in this arvo. Lights aren't in place yet so they only open between 9 to 5 so we only got a bucket of 40 ($7) between us. Two tier bags, with grass ones below. I didn't expect that. The guys below would have been thankful with the netting above their heads once I pulled driver and 3 wood out; after hitting nice 7, 3 and 1 irons, I proceeded to run my woods along the ground!

Still the putt putt to come and more netting. Someone was saying they're using 80% balls. One guy down below was hitting the car netting. Was about 220 meters to the net from the top bay I think.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a little something something going on. Saying that, being attached to the club, and his kids running the pro shop and bring owners of the previous driving range, I expected they'd be running it.

Maybe we should have a bit there before the Leon day if anyone is interested?

My guess is that the golf pros already have the coaching rights at the club with their existing contract, and that would extend to the new driving range, so the club may not have had any option to be able to tender it out.

I'm going to take a gander on Thursday with my 8yo daughter. I'm excited as it is a short drive from my office so I can slip over in the lunch break.

Across the street from City Golf Club. It's part of a flood mitigation basin for West Creek.

Ah ok, is that on South Street then ?

Yep entry is off South St. The old basketball stadium is gone.

Yeah, they've removed the indoor basketball court and added even more parking which extends over to where the range is. You park there and cross the road to get to the range.
