simmsy
25th March 2016, 11:11 PM
you seem a little annoyed with the thought of underlings being granted access on to your course at a time when no members would be on the course anyway.

This is what i find amazing about members at Perth courses.

In Melbourne i have always been treated like they are lucky to have guests at their courses. RM and Metro have been such great hosts anytime ive been there. Yet i find this attitude from Perth members about their courses so often, Yet LK have bent over backwards to make this day work for us, they couldn't have done more than what they have done in making us feel welcome and doing everything they can to ensure we have a great day.

Maybe you as a member should look at the example your club has set and be less of a cranky bugga.

I def recall somewhere in the fine print that I had the right to be a pompous obnoxious shit. Otherwise what is the point of paying all that money?

Its actually something we should be proud of in this country, that anyone can pretty much get onto any course if they ask nicely. I have some mates in the US that shake their heads at this - I tell them to jump the fence, but then they quite rightly point out that everyone carries guns over there

Hang on, seniors is only over 50 plus 3 players over 55. Bloody Bernhard Langer isn't doing too bad at 58, and Tom Watson gave it a fair shake at Turnberry a few year back.

Disturbingly, at mid 50s I hit the ball further and play off a lower handicap than when I was 25. Equipment has a lot to answer for

didn't argue there aren't great players in their 50's, the Senior Pennant format is ghey though.

Needs some more blind tee shots and green keepers......

A lot of holes look very similar. Sick of having downhill lies. Something I'm not used to. Greens were not that good.

Great to play but a hard slog. Not a lot of real fun shots on the course, exceptions of the first, 12th and 16/17 are great strong holes. Strong par 5's on the front, really enjoyed them and par 3's were great fun with some variety. 17 a cracking long 3.

Great steak sandwich and outdoor area. Very appreciative on letting us on.

Yoss had 42 points.

I rate the track but today found a lot of the par 4's samey. As in I parred them.

Seriously though.

The issue I hear spoken about is that the course favours a draw'er of the ball. Most courses do as it goes longer and is usually found on the better player.

For mine the issue is more the repetition of the blind long par 4. The blind tee shot is not so much of an issue on members only tracks but the all play pretty similar which.

1 is a cracker IMO, asks you a ton of questions and if I played it week in week out I'd go driver a lot more and have a ball doing so.

2 is a lot of fun, but as noted above becomes a bit samey later.

Love 3, great risk reward.

Think the par 3's overall are a great set. Up there with the best set of 3's in WA.

7 is a lot of fun, cracking 5 IMO.

10 doesn't work as a short 4 for the average golfer but is still a decent hole. The closer you get to that trap the better the line, bail out and you've got a tougher approach.

11 I am really unsure about, something about it just seems a bit forced.

Love 14 and love the options it gives you. Cracking hole.

15 I really like as a par 5 for the average club member. Take on the bunkers = go zone. Bail out no go. Water on the right makes your approach interesting if you lay up.

16 is probably my favourite par 4 on the course. Looks lovely and plays well too IMO.

17 is a cracker.

18 is just a slog. There is a place for holes like this but with par 4's like 4,6,9, 13 all playing uphill it gets a bit repetitive? I think they are all really solid holes.

Overall it is my top course in WA. The greens were a bit disappoint in terms of condition and the greenskeepers are either the grumpiest bunch ever or are having some kind of class war with the members.

KB is a close second for me in terms of layout but LK kills it in condition and amenity. Which is understandable given the $$ involved.

Yossarian
2nd May 2016, 06:58 PM
Also thanks again to everyone it has been a really great weekend. I love you guys.

westy
2nd May 2016, 07:04 PM
You are right there is a bit of repetition at times, which probably holds it just outside the top tier in the country - I guess the only excuse is that it is a tough property to route. In an ideal world, the hills would only be half as high.

2nd is the best looking hole when you crest the hill, but yes strategically its a bit limited. But then a bit of eye candy never goes astray.

Surprised at the staff and condition- I shall have a word and have the odious little toads flogged to teach them a lesson.

Yossarian
2nd May 2016, 07:14 PM
Hahaha, they weren't rude they just didn't want to say gday which I found odd.

I think I said to someone today the topography would make it tricky to make really great holes for all 18. Just a bit too dramatic.

The course was mint the greens were just a bit soggy in places and weren't mowed till we got to the 6th.

simmsy
2nd May 2016, 07:20 PM
9th for us till we had a mowed green.
A lot of greens struggling for grass and are rolling a bit of mud.

Westy must be brutal walk for some of the older members.

1-2-3 is a fantastic start. The front 9 par 5's are amazing. Great set of par 3's.

TourFit
3rd May 2016, 12:27 PM
18 is not called Cardiac Hill for nothing...

I definitely agree with the sentiments that 17 is a cracking hole. IMO the best hole on the course. And also that the strength of the Par 3's goes a long way to making the course really good.

However, some of the Par 4's are bland and a bit repetitive (the land / layout contributes a lot to this). The standout Par 4's for me are 1, 14 and 16.

The Par 5's are reasonably strong too, with 3 being my pick as the best. I do NOT like 11 at all... it's Clayton at his "making no sense" best.

westy
3rd May 2016, 12:57 PM
I actually haven't seen the place since Feb as I no longer live in Perth - so you are more up to date than me.

There will always be debate on the merits of holes. I actually don't like the 16th much, or at least I don't like the green. I think the back tier is too small for a hole that length, and I dislike the short front right bunker as it removes the running approach which the hole sorely needs.

But it is what it is - not perfect but half decent.

I have always loved 16, but the green never did it for me.
