Anyone rocking some decent prescription sunnies that are suitable for golf?
Anyone know what to look for?
Most of the optometrists I've been to don't know what makes a decent pair of golf sunnies.
I've tried a few different pairs, some polarized and others not but I just don't seem to feel comfortable playing in them so I go back to my normal glasses, I'm short sighted, not badly but bad enough to need a prescription pair.
Any ideas/suggestions welcome

Funnily enough I just ordered some last week.

Nike make specialist golf lenses in prescription sunglasses. My optometrist originally suggested them but it turned out they couldn't do them in my script so it will really depend on your eyes. I did end up getting a pair of normal Nike glasses though, I've been wearing them this week and I'm pretty happy. I hadn't had new glasses in 4 years... I might be able to see my ball disappearing into the trees now :smt087

I ended up ordering a pair of Mako sunnies, which were expensive (more than the Nikes would have been) but hopefully worth it. I haven't got them yet, they apparently take a couple of weeks, so I am hoping to have them before next weekend so I can get a game or two in them before Vic champs. Will let you know how they are, they're originally designed for fishing but should be pretty good for golf too.

I have Specsaver prescription and they are ok for golf with grey polarised lenses.

Tried them a couple of times mate, kept airmailing greens for some reason, played footy in them without any dramas though.
Work in an office all week so I couldn't be bothered just putting them in for a round of golf to be honest

Not with the Nikes, we didn't get that far, once she found my prescription was too strong.

I ended up going for Drivewear lenses which are polarised and photochromatic, they go brown/yellow/clear depending on the light. They're designed for driving (hence the name) but should be pretty good.

I am a optical technician dispenser and I cant wear polaroids playing golf I find they distort things too much, grey lenses change the natural colour too much. The best colour lenses are green or brown they keep the natural colours more close to where they should be JMHO. I have a pair of rudy projects green/brown lenses and they are pretty good but not perfect. I work at a specsavers store and am going to try the drive wear lenses even though they are polaroids they will not go as dark as a normal pola being transistions, just have to get around to it.

Yeah I'm a fan of specsavers tbh. I'm wearing a pair of these atm, also have a pair of polarized sunnies from there, it I nice to get 2 pairs of glasses each year for about $100 after the rebate

Ahh cool. I will be interested to hear what you think Dowdsy. I have never actually worn sunglasses for golf, always just normal glasses but I do struggle sometimes particularly when the sun is low and it's glary. I'm hoping they'll make things a bit easier on the eyes, but it's hard to test them in the shops, they just give you a think piece of polycarbonate to look through, it's not the same as wearing them.

I wear glasses and have tried them all over the years. In my experience I have found that if the lenses are curved, they can cause refraction (a bit like a stick in water). OK for general wear but if you depend on knowing where the ball is within a millimetre, then it can be very bad. Polarized lenses can be a bit tricky (especially for putting), but they're great for looking for a ball (especially if it's in around water hazards). I currently wear polarized grey lenses, as flat as I could find them that I got from SpecSavers. That said, I prefer to play with clear lenses and tend to do so on all but the glariest days.

No worries Ben, I might order some on Monday and see how they are, the only problem is finding a cool sporty type frame at SS to put them in.

Golf sunglasses need polarized lenses, otherwise you will have difficulty see the ball flight into the sun. Polarized lenses also help in seeing balls in a water where glare is present.

Who you goto?

I might look at getting some new prescription sunnies... I can't wear curved lenses though, I get that fishbowl effect and feel nauseous. Been contemplating getting contacts but I've never tried them before.

That's because the frames are stronger and it takes more effort to have them sit crooked on your face. ;)

This is true, but they charge me alittle cos I tried to pay with pork rolls from Cabra.

As above, you can order Oakley Sunnies to spec.

I believe they Do this in the Prizm lense (golf specific) but you have to order these through your optometrist and sometimes pricing can be 'interesting' from them.
