so who's it gonna be folks :-k

Looks like the Roosters,Bulldogs and Broncos will sure up the top 3 spots.

Penrith will probably scrape into 4th... but who will round out the 8 :?:

Hope the Cowboys get there, after yesterdays win over the Knights.. they've given themselves a really good chance :D

if they can get some consistency in the last 5 rounds the Dragons should get 5th, maybe 4th if other results go there way

Jarro - i think you've doubled-up on your prescripTion today.... i watched yesterday's game and there were far too many dropped balls and simple errors for them to be considered a team to take on the Bronc's and the Roosters...

righto Fishy .. point taken

yesterdays game wasn't a real good example of what they can do, but i still think they're a real threat :!:

The Panthers look like easy pickings at the moment ... they're really been struggling ....

.. i just hope the Broncos play to their potential in the finals series \:D/ :smt023

yeah but fishy did you watch the game last friday week, Dragons v Roosters??

One of the best games I've seen in a long, long time.

They have a habit of putting out their best performances against the top opposition.

Also they've beaten the Panthers in BOTH encounters this season...

Whateveryournameis (:?) - last Friday nights game was as good as league gets. End-to-end play, set completions and a really high-standard. But the Saints should have gone on with it. That game showed 2 things;

1) Roosters have that belief that they can overcome any deficit
2) Saints can't put the good teams away.

It isn't the Saints year this year, just like the Roosters when they lost the GF to the Bronc's - 2001?

Firstly its drunken

I agree with you, that they can't put away games that they should win. At the same time I have this feeling that once the finals get here they'll lift a notch, just like they did in '99 when they came 7th (I think) and won every game bar the Grand Final (although that's a bad example of putting teams away, 14-0 at half time  )

It might not be their year this year but I think that it won't be too far away. They have lost five grand finals on the trot in the last 25 years, since their last win in '79. Their day HAS to come sooner or later, and I really think this is their team to do it.

Jarro, I have been there about 4 times.
The first 3 times i was in the lower tier behind the goals...even in the corner, you get a good look at the pitch.
But last Sunday I was up in the top tier (or middle, i don't know but i had to walk up stairs), and whilst it gave a better view of the entire field, it was just that bit further from the action. I prefereed the lower section.

They were obviously looking for rent-a-crowd and had discounts off family ticket prices. 2 adults and two kids cost $36.

Had to look for this thread - you league fans aren't exactly over-hyped with the finals being played. I guess you are all at the game tonight? No, that can't be the case, looks like more spare seats have turned up than fans...

If this ref was fair dinkum the Bronco's would be chasing a half-time deficit. Dropped balls in tackles are penalties for the Bronco's and knock-on's for the Storm, and the 10m doesn't exist for one team...

At 1/2 time i've got to say - AFL is the winner ;)

Go the Storm!!

What a game - Storm were electric! The Bronco's stood still and the Storm ran around them repeatedly. And great to see Casino boy Matty King score in the corner aswell.

Kelly barely touched the ball, and didn't go looking for it when everyone was flat-footed. Ikin did stuff all, surely this is his final dig.

To sum up the night, there was the 20m tap - Ikin took it and no one ran up to take the hit up - he was left stranded. That was about 10 mins into the 2nd half and it never got any better.

What do we think about the NRL judiciary? Big test of faith tonight..

Finch - Single-handedly dumped Schifcofske on the point of his head. Looked worse than the Crocker/Smith effort, and they each got 3 weeks. Got to go, season over for Finch.

Price - He's claiming Not Guilty for striking? I guess Morrison's nose just started bleeding out of excitement? As for the head-slam allegation, that's complete bollocks. His shoulders hit the ground well before his head, and i don't think Price suffered any ill-effect.

Fishy,

Finch dropped him on his head, deserves to be suspended.

Price, it was the chin mate, directly after a head slam that Morrison wasn't cited for in order to make the ref look good.

They're playing league and they are grown men, they're not playing that antsy bloody AFL where if they hug each other its a penalty  . Why isn't Willie Mason in front as well, he landed one ???

I agree boys will be boys, but on the chin? I think that blue crepe-paper has run into your eyes! :)

When you look at some of the other head-slams this year (i.e. Fittler, Tallis), then Morrison doesn't have anything to worry about. A typical slam has a forearm across the neck and pounds the head into the ground - this was just a good tackle. Put it this way, if Price didn't job him in the tackle then we wouldn't even be discussing it.

3oneday
15th September 2004, 11:05 AM
Price's defence will be that he was pushing him away, the fact that his fist was closed is irrelevent  . Morrison did whack his head into the ground but the ref saw nothing wrong with the tackle.

The above sentence contains too many words for most refs to understand, should be shortened to "the ref saw nothing" .

Well the 'punchline' has been delivered (pun shamefully intended).

This comp is a joke, and with it goes any credibility with the sport. Of course, you would have to agree that on video evidence you could clearly see that Price's eyes were closed, and he was simply throwing punches at the evil men who haunt him when he closes his eyes.

And can someone please explain how Finch escaped? Tyrone Smith and Crocker both got something like 3 weeks each for 1/2 arsed spear tackle, and one bloke, single-handedly spears someone on the point of his head and walks free.

I don't know anyone who didn't predict they would both get off unscathed.

The last 5 mins were a disgrace.

Minna's high tackle/taking the player out.
'That bomb' - Hannay? was it that got shepherded? There were 3 blue jumpers stopping him for getting a run at the ball. But what wasn't picked up on at all is that the Roosters picked up the knock'ed on ball from an offside position. Fatty touched on it, but no one else discussed it.

It's not to say they would have won, but they should have had another shot at it.

I was also amazed that Minichello wasn't penalised for the high shot after he knocked on  I think Ricketson will be lucky to play the grand final after that swinging arm but then nothing surprises me when it comes to the Roosters and the running of the game
I didn't think there was anything in Hodges high shot. That Chris Walker is a goose isn't he? He did carry on at the end but he has short term memeory loss when it comes to his own defensive errors. The way to beat the Roosters is to attack their right side defence with Hodges and Walker together.
Anyway, the Cowboys really played well and it would have been great to see them win.

Gotta laugh, now that Ricketson has been cited they are claiming he was defending Fittler from a cheap shot by Fien. Fittler looked like he didn't need a lot of help dealing with a little halfback but Ricketson hit from his blind spot anyway. I know which one was the cheaper shot.

I don't know what's been said so far, but;

It wasn't one of the greats, very scrappy. If the Roosters made 2 set completions in a row, they win.

The keys for me:
* El Masri is a cheat. That was double-movement. Shuddup Pete ;)
* Roosters were robbed with that disallowed try (penalty). I couldn't see a player who was impeded except for the peanut who tackled a decoy - but he made the effort to tackle him - he had a choice, and chose WRONG!

Roosters loss = Finch, Hodges, Chris Walker. Is Walker the worst defensive player going around? He missed more tackles than Preston Campbell did in a season the other night. And Hodges.. holy crap, where was he when they were handing out brains?

But the Roosters made all the errors because the Doggies defence was too strong all night. A good win, and good to have a close one regardless. And Big Willie smashed them all night.

5th October 2004, 06:41 AM
There is no such thing as a double movement once you are across the line. So El Mazri was entitled to do what he did. The referre then has to decide if he has been held up for a sufficent amount of time to allow or disallow the try.

Fishman Dan
5th October 2004, 07:39 AM
He was grounded short, held up, got to his feet and leaped over the two tacklers. Double-movement in my book.

Put it this way - if he did it 30 metres out there would have been a penalty.

drunken
5th October 2004, 09:00 AM
theres no way he was grounded short.....he was more than a metre over the line when his momentum first stopped. Therefore he can do what he did, as long as he does it quickly enough.

I was studying to do my refereeing ticket last year, but didn't end up doing the test due to other commitments

Fishman Dan
5th October 2004, 09:11 AM
We have a Bulldogs supporter (of ethnic origins that i won't go in to ;)) who sheepishly agrees that it could have been a double-movement....

they actually changed the rules this year Fishy. Anytime a player runs behind one of his own, while in an attacking position, will incur a penalty..regardless of whether a defending player makes a wrong option and attempts to tackle the dummy runner.

Sounds pretty silly i know, but they've been pretty tough on this move all year.

Fishman Dan
5th October 2004, 12:37 PM
.... but they've been pretty tough on this move all year.

And that's the key, so as long as they ruled it the same there is no issue - although in my own view if a decoy runner hits a gap (which i think happened on this occasion), then it's play on.

Hopefully they change that, i think an attractive back-line move needs several players in motion.

Ours may not be an international game, but when players get to choose what country they feel like playing for, it kinda cheapens the deal don't you think? The last 'World Cup' was like this too, with local players appearing in Irish, Scottish, American, Lebanese teams....

Nope if that was the case I'd be quite happy. Timmins is having no surgery in the off season. He really wanted to go on this tour, as he has never been on tour with the Roo's before. He was actually going to make this his last time playing rep football. I believe that he will now retire immediately from rep footy.

Believe me when I say that this isn't an anti QLD comment, but I really don't belive that all six of the Broncos players in the squad deserve to be there. Especially at the cost of one the best Rep players in recent seasons.
