View Full Version : My putting alignment problem

I am fine when I use a mallet putter, but when I use a blade type putter the ball always ends up low, about 10-12 inches below the hole. It does not seem to matter how much I try to compensate for this the problem does not go away, I have even gone to the extent of twisting the grip a bit to make the alignment go a bit higher. Alas all seems to fail. Any suggestions t fix the problem?

Well it's obviously due to the offset.
Keep using the mallet?

Get a putting mirror and make sure you align properly to begin with

No worries.

There could be other factors like if your mallet is face balanced and the blade has toe hang, u are closing the face quicker or just pulling them.

Straight back and through

Straight back and through

Then a face balanced putter is what you need. I too have a straight back and through stroke and I struggle with putters that have toe hang.

Your mallet is probably face balanced, which is why you get better results.

It only took me about 20 putters to figure this out.

I think I have tried virtually every Scotty blade putter, and Odyssey putter without success. I dont have a problem with a mallet putter, its just that a blade putter was another challenge.

Thanks Blu, bit I have a Cameron Kombi in my Titleist bag, and a Odyssey #7 CS arriving today, also I have just bought a Taylormade Daddy longlegs putter, so I am pretty well covered for mallet putters. I see quite a few players using blade putters and I thought I would try to master using one.

Like I said this is a face balanced 2 ball blade, I doubt that u have tried this.

You can buy long neck blades that are often face balanced or you could get a Yes! Tracy that were also face balanced. Don't get it mixed up with the Tracy II though as that had a flow neck and a lot of toe hang. Retief Goosen used to use a Yes! Tracy. Think he used it for his US Open wins actually.

Ping Anser 5 is a face-balanced 'heel-toe weighted' design.

(The word 'blade' should be reserved for traditional unforgiving designs, like the Wilson 8802, Acushnet Bullseye and anything pre-Anser. What really pisses me off is anything advertised as 'Two Ball Blade' or 'Daddy Long Legs Blade'.)

But, if mallets work and other designs don't, why throw away dollars, when you're on a limited income?

Am I missing something or why dont you just use a mallet?

For the same reason a bloke wants to hit his 9 iron further instead of using an 8.

For the same reason a bloke wants to hit his 9 iron further instead of using an 8. Well the issue is the 8 iron has lower height mechanics and is slightly less forgiving, whereas there is no real performance tradeoff with a mallet vs blade.

No, it's more important to know if you breath in or out on your back stroke :D
